With the Xbox Developer Direct 2025 just around the corner, we're in that period right now where everyone seems to making predictions about not only the show, but also the rest of 2025 and how it looks for Xbox's lineup of games.
The official word is that we're already getting a great set of titles this year, with the likes of Fable, DOOM: The Dark Ages and obviously Avowed all set for the coming months. Let's take a look at that confirmed lineup for 2025 so far:
- Avowed (February 18, 2025)
- DOOM: The Dark Ages (TBD 2025)
- Fable (TBD 2025)
- South of Midnight (TBD 2025)
- The Outer Worlds 2 (TBD 2025)
- Towerborne 1.0 (TBD 2025)
Yes, there's a distinct lack of release dates in there, and we're still unsure whether something like Fable will actually make it in 2025, but it's a great potential list nevertheless. And of course, those are just the games with release windows that we actually know about right now. Many of the others are undated, and some probably haven't been revealed yet!
Take this Oblivion remake / remaster, for example. All signs seem to be pointing towards its legitimacy, so hopefully that'll be heading our way before long. We've also got a new Call of Duty bound to launch this year. How about Ara: History Untold getting a console release? Rumours have even suggested Gears of War: E-Day could be ready too!
Here's a look at some of the other major Xbox games that could be preparing to release in 2025:
- Ara: History Untold for console
- Call of Duty 2025
- Gears of War: E-Day
- New Tony Hawk game
- Oblivion remake / remaster
- Whatever the "surprise" is at the Xbox Dev Direct
It doesn't have to end there. Something like Clockwork Revolution could easily make an appearance - it's never been dated and remains shrouded in secrecy right now - and perhaps even Double Fine could come out of the woodwork with a new project? State of Decay 3, Everwild... anything could ultimately end up making a splash in 2025.
Listen, we know that not everything here is going to release in 2025, even if it's actually been dated for 2025 already. Delays happen, plans change, and it's inevitable that a few disappointments crop up along the way. But for every delay, let's hope we get a surprise - our fingers are crossed for the most stacked first-party year in Xbox history!
What do you think we'll see in terms of a first-party Xbox slate in 2025? Give us your thoughts down below.

I personally think there's no way Gears releases this year, but I would love to be proven wrong.
I think we’ll have 7-8 first party games this year (if we count CoD) and that Xbox will pull a Nintendo and start to get things on a regular schedule from there on out where we usually hit 5-6 a year, the way it should be.
If Call of Duty, Avowed, Doom, Fable, Towerborn, South of Midnight and The Outer Worlds 2 all release in 2025, surely that's your lot, right? People have lamented the relative lack of first-party games this gen, but you can go too far in the other direction. Leave some stuff for 2026 and beyond.
@Lup Indy was out of nowhere as being a 2024 title until this time last year. Believe.
I like that MS has so much content now. I don't think we will see anywhere near 10 major games this year though. It would be nice if I am proven wrong, but honestly, I would be happy to see 4-6 really amazing games then 10+ major games where half were rushed out before they were truly ready.
I expect half of these not to release this year (either due to delays or because rumors like to think everything is right around the corner), and that'll still leave Xbox with a fantastic nice sized lineup. Not to mention one with a lot of variety.
I agree, @Lup. As I have said a number of times now with Gears 4 and 5, the games were revealed one year, with the full release being in the following year. However, with 4 and 5, the reveals featured gameplay, which clearly E-Day did not, which tends to make me think that at the time of the reveal the game was too early in development to show gameplay.
I strongly suspect that E-Day will be a next generation launch title for the next Xbox console, which is rumoured to be landing in 2026. This will also tie in nicely with the release of the film too. Netflix are also making an animated show, for which we also do not yet have a release date. Nothing will hype E-Day and the next Xbox console more than the show and the film, so I expect them all to release around the same time, and let's face it, Xbox needs the exposure...
@Lup every gears game from the first to the last was announced and released the year after. If they continue that trend it would be in 2025. I sure hope it does and if so, there goes all my free time. It’s my favorite IP in the world.
The government leaked the Oblivion remaster during the FTC trial. You don't need signs pointing to it being real. It's real.
@Lup @Fiendish-Beaver The Coalition’s last full game they made solo was Gears 5 in 2019. It will be 6 years since the last mainline Gears later this year. It’s about time.
I know they’ve also been working on DLC, helping other studios like Splash Damage on Gears Tactics, 343 on Halo Infinite, Epic with Matrix Awakens etc. but they have multiple teams and it feels like another game is due soon. Are we not going to see a Coalition game launch this gen?
I think even Fraiser knows that it's a stretch to justify the headline.
BUT, the point is made that we should see at least 5 titles this year and that's a huge improvement over previous years and welcome news.
Now we just have to hope these titles are actually good. I think it's safe to to think Doom and Outer wilds 2 will be. I'm hopeful for the others and in particular Avowed, which was the reason I kept my series X at all.
Like themightyant, I suspect the coalition to show up this year too, and you can count on them making a good title...
I agree that it has been way too long, @themightyant. I'm probably the biggest Gears of War fanatic to roam these forums. However, I've been saying since we first saw E-Day, that it will be a launch title for the Prime, and that the Prime will launch in 2026. I think it is possible that work did start on Gears 6, and that when the decision was made to scrap the mid-generation refresh, that they then decided to make E-Day and have it as a launch title for the Prime instead, and thus put Gears 6 on the back-burner. Hence the extended period between games.
Had Gears 6 been completed instead, then I agree, it would probably have launched this generation, but there are fewer Xbox titles bigger than Gears of War, and not to have it as a launch title for the Prime would be a missed opportunity. That said, E-Day will be a backwards compatible title, playable on the Series consoles, and I would not be shocked if it wasn't playable on the One too...
I'm in a really conflicted spot, @Titntin! I'd love you to be right and see E-Day out this year, but I'd also really like to be proven right and see E-Day release as a launch title for the Prime, and to see the Prime come out next year. 😂
I think the only way we are likely to see the Coalition turn up this year is either with the Marcus Fenix Remastered Collection, or with a gameplay trailer for E-Day at this Summers Showcase...
You are correct regarding the year between the reveal and the release, @HonestHick. However, with both 4 and 5, it was gameplay that was shown, not a cinematic. The fact that only a cinematic was shown tends to suggest that gameplay was not at a point where it could be shown, and thus the game is further out than the previous games were at the point of their reveals. In some ways I'd like to be wrong, but I don't think I am.
Thus, I stand by my assertion that E-Day will be a launch title for the Prime in 2026... 😉
@Fiendish-Beaver Lol, I see your anguish! No one knows what a 'Prime' is, or when it will release, so I'd take the game this year on hardware we already own rather than on some hyperthetical future system. But that's just me! If you'd rather it was reserved for a future system that's a valid wish too 😀
I am already super excited for Avowed, Fable, Outer Worlds 2 and 2-3 more 3rd party titles! If E-Day is in 2025 too I ll go crazy!!!
@Fiendish-Beaver yeah and i agree with you on that. But yet so many Gears of War followers that i listen to seem to say it’s coming in 2025. But i am like you i am just not sure this time. NOW…. If and it’s a huge if cause i have been let down 5 times on the Gears of War collection but i could see that being in 2025 if it’s even real and then E-day in 2026. One guy i heard whom has a good track record said he heard the collection is real and might launch without the multiplayer and just story and then added in later. I don’t know how much I believe that but as a Gears fanatic i hold out hope, right buddy? Haha 😊
Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about the MF Collection launching without its multiplayer, @HonestHick, it is after all, the mainstay of the games. Yes, most of us play through the campaigns (unbelievably there are some that only play the multiplayer, which I get with CoD, but Gears of War? That's a cardinal sin!), but the longevity of the games is in the multiplayer. I've got over 1900 hours in Gears 5, and probably 90% of that time is spent playing Horde. I do play through every campaign once a year, so will have played a reasonable amount of time there, but most people are pretty strange, and would only play through the campaigns once... 😉😂
I have heard a rumour that E-Day is all but ready, as is the case with the MF Collection. My betting is a shadow-drop of MF at this June's Showcase, with E-Day releasing next year, but then I thought the Collection was going to release last year, so what do I know...
Anguish verging on insanity, I think, @Titntin... 🤣
@Fiendish-Beaver i like your idea better than theirs haha! Yeah i got 2000 ish hours with most of it in the multiplayer. Beat the single campaigns a 100 times. I would take the collection without the multiplayer player ready at launch but it would be weird and i am not sure they would do that. His channel was the first i heard that from. It’s likely not going to happen that way. A shadow drop of that collection would be a big boost of excitement for not only Gears of War but Xbox in general. Sure hope we hear more soon.
2000 hours in Gears 5, @HonestHick? Respect, matey! Is that mostly PvP? Personally I don't touch PvP. I wasn't very good at it when I was younger, but now my reflexes and my arthritis make it a big no, no for me... 😂

Seriously? (5.0) 👍
I've never got any of the Seriously's myself, @themightyant. If I recall correctly, they involve PvP, which hold zero interest for me. I've done every campaign multiple times on the hardest difficulties, be that Insane or Inconceivable, and have done so both solo and as a duo (which I think is more difficult to some extent as that means there are two of you that can bring a run to an end!).
I did help a friend get Seriously 3.0 (he already had 2.0), but then he got banned for using an outside program to colour his gamerpic (a witch) green. First off, why did Xbox not have a green witch anyway, but secondly, even when he tried to appeal, they refused as they said that he had hacked his profile! Seems a little harsh in the context of what he did, but there you go. The funny thing is, that these days you can upload any gamerpic you want... 😂
@Fiendish-Beaver They are all ridiculously over-involved. Back in my achievement hunting phase they used to make a lot of people tear their hair out. If I remember correctly the first game was 10,000 ranked kills which was already OTT, the second was 100,000 kills in any mode and they kept getting more and more ridiculous with each game often taking years to complete.
EDIT: I just looked it up, that's right. Gears 5 was 50 re-ups (get to lv100 50 times) and a lot of other BS. Only 0.02% of players have it or 1 in 50,000 making it one of the rarest achievements.
The account banning seems harsh, but it did require account hacking to do at the time, a silly way to go for a needless gamer pic.
@Fiendish-Beaver yeah i play all the game modes but most of that is PVP. I loved Gears 5 PVP and Horde. The campaign was just so so. Which is why i am so happy for E-day and of course the often rumored collection that per the sources should have been here 2 -3 years ago.trying not to fall for that again but i want it so bad.
They are ridiculous achievements, @themightyant. I'm currently sat on 46 re-ups, but there are a number of other things I would need to do for Seriously 5.0 that I simply will not bother with...
