I am waiting for an EA play day 1 announcement but wont happen now 🤣 looking forward to it though.

Its not really Sony putting it on Game Pass. Its MLB wanting it on there and making that happen.

That said it will rile Sony up. They will have to respond soon. They could put it on PS Now but that will set a precedent quicker than they would like I'd imagine.

Phil has been a game changer for the brand. They had a lot of work to do to repair some bad PR after the Xbox One launch. Was a genius move putting him charge done a cracking job and now the brand is fighting on all cylinders again.

Stadia is dead in the water.

Agree with previous commenters though. The workaround is great for accessing PC game libraries.

One for the audiophiles I think. For the rest of us great alternatives that are much more affordable.

Not a knock on them though. There is a hardcore market there for them. Great they are offering a product for that crowd.

Then you have Activision charging for an upgrade to Tony Hawk on both consoles. But Crash upgrade was free.

Its all one big mess and companies almost cherry picking when to charge and where.

@LtSarge Mafia Definitive Edition? Cracking game that. Was so dissapointed with the Mafia 2 remaster and all the glitches nearly put me off going for Mafia 1 but Hangar 13 nailed it.

To an extent forgot this game still existed haha. But looks like a riot.

Through college, uni and after I have replayed all the games so many times cant recommend this series enough.

Credit goes to the team behind Shenmue for me though. I got into the first game as a substitute for Shenmue after the 2nd game. Not looked back since.

This will get enough backlash if its not a technical issue they will probably reverse it.

Cant wait for this one love the Sherlock games.

@mousieone @LtSarge @Medic_Alert I think we can all agree every big tech company wants a stranglehold on their markets these days and it is a general concern. MS is no exception to that. I do think the Bethesda purchase does some good though. They needed to increase their pool of first party studios and got it in one go. Sony do a similar thing but slowly acquiring smaller studios as its more financially viable to do that for them, but both working to the same ends.

My take with Discord specifically though. I dont think its a move to take over the messaging space. Rather, they are in need of a platform that suits the gaming space.

Skype and Teams although large brands are very business-centric and tailored towards the corporate office environment now.

Discord sits away from that and more in the gaming and general entertainment community space.

I think it would be a good and relevant acquisition. I just dont think Discord necessarily need it. I think going public on the stock exchange is better for them the interest from large investors would be immense.

Personally - I think Bitcoin will either crash or become heavily regulated. Either outcome will destroy its value.

Id stay away from using it for everyday transactions.

Live Gold will be phased out eventually. MS will be the first of the three to make the move back to free multiplayer.

But they will wait until the last minute timing wise to do it when Game Pass peaks enough they can absorb the capital hit of not having live subscriptions anymore.

I think its close. But there are still a fair few Xbox Gamers subscribed to live and not Game Pass.

The rebrand is just one step towards it.

Covid still impacting development timelines. To be expected.

The PS5 upgrade system desperately needs looking at.

That said I dont think its going to have much impact on sales so I cant see them being in any rush.

@themightyant wasnt a fan of Infinite as much as first two Bioshocks but love the series. Same with Dishonored just playing through Dishonored 2 at the mo.

I do hope MS let Tango Gameworks have another crack at a horror game if not Evil Within 3, something else.

Need to keep the genre alive and kicking with the best working on it and Mikami is one of them.

On topic. Like any acquisition its about one thing and one thing alone and that is making money. And lots of it.

Microsoft didnt spend $7.5bil to get good press or please some forum users. Its an investment and shareholders will want a return.

Personally - I think that return would be maximised with existing IPs ie Doom, ES, maybe Wolfenstein being across all platforms. But there absolutely should be an incentive to invest in the Xbox ecosystem from this deal and that is where new IP being exclusive will come into it..

One quote from a press event isnt enough to change my view there. But as an Xbox owner myself if I am proved wrong I will still get to enjoy those games and that is what matters.

I have always given a neutral view. I may be proved wrong but I think they will make a ton of money keeping known IPs multiplat. And they are not a charity after all. Lets see in a year or two down the line.

@Tharsman time will tell. Could be as you said in previous post. Existing games already released get support. Anything else is exclusive.

Could be "legacy" meaning franchises that have released on other platforms will still do so a la Elder Scrolls, Doom etc. Any future new IPs will release only on platforms that have Game Pass.

I own all 3 I dont mind either scenario I just dont think the presentation made it any clearer.

As much as a big win every Xbox fan says it is. Elder Scrolls and Fallout for example make a lot of money. MS make more by letting them go multiplat than ringfencing them to a few platforms hence they dont do that with Minecraft.

Its not an MS win over Sony. Its a dev making a career change. Enough searches on Linkedin reveal some significant switches between devs/publishers.

Good to see The Initiative getting further talent though. I just hope the new Perfect Dark doesnt get overhyped. This dev team need a good start.

Some will certainly be exclusive but I dont see any games announced before the acquisition being exclusive like Starfield etc. Anything well into development will go multiplat.

License holders will have a massive say there too. If Indy game already in development no way Disney will let that not be multiplat unless MS pay up money for some some separate rights to the license as Sony did with Spiderman.

I definitely can see anything unannounced before the approval this week staying exclusive to the Xbox platform and services.

@Reyren when Fable was Project Ego one of Peter Molyneux's biggest selling points of the game was things like "see a mountain in the distance you can walk to it" he visioned it as an open world experience which back in that era would have been massive. Instead it was more of a hub world and it didnt sit well with many.

Peter Molyneux was one of those. More of a thinker than practical. He had the passion in bucketloads just didnt have the practicality to make his ideas work.

Comparing him to a snake oil salesman? Harsh.
