There certainly are a lot of reports coming out about the business side of Xbox this week, and one of them is that a group of private equity firms recently valued the Xbox business as being worth between $100 billion and $150 billion.
This is coming from The Information, which says that the discussions were short-lived and never materialised into formal negotiations with Microsoft. Nevertheless, the firms were seemingly interested in "exploring" a potential buyout.
You can see a very brief overview of the paywalled article below:
Of course, it was just a few weeks ago that Asha Sharma insisted Xbox isn't for sale, and she also commented to Fortune in their latest report that she thinks Xbox will be "an important part of Microsoft for a very long time".
Nevertheless, the Fortune piece does bring up that "several current and former staff members believe Xbox is being prepped for an eventual sale, spinoff, outside investment, or conversion into a subsidiary". It's been suggested that there was a "high-level presentation that explored such scenarios" after Asha Sharma became the Xbox CEO.
Microsoft exec Judson Althoff cooled these fears to the outlet though, stating that Xbox is valuable in many ways to the company, and that they wouldn't have put "one of the best leaders we have" on a business they intend to sell.
Ultimately, the fact of the matter is that Asha Sharma has stated Xbox isn't for sale, and these "short-lived discussions" never actually materialised into anything. Anything else is just pure speculation right now!
