Massive Inflatable Rat Protests Xbox Leadership Outside Bethesda HQ 1

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma visited Bethesda's Rockville, Maryland HQ on Tuesday to check out a 'live playthrough' of The Elder Scrolls 6, but what really caught everyone's attention was 'Scabby', a giant inflatable rat.

Last month, Microsoft cut 1,600 jobs across its Xbox division, with a further 1,600 employees set to be let go throughout the year. In response, members of Bethesda Game Studios Union protested the arrival of Xbox leadership by planting 800 red flags outside the office building, with each flag representing "how many people management cut" from their teams.

OneBGS member, Nathan Hahn, said: "We heard that Microsoft leadership was coming to our office this week, and decided to make our presence visible at the office to show how our developers have been impacted by these devastating layoffs".

As part of Sharma's big "reset", Xbox cancelled projects, parted ways with multiple studios, and announced the 3,200 layoffs Hahn mentioned. He went on to say the fight would continue:

"We’re mobilizing to fight back against these layoffs not just to ensure impacted XBOX devs and testers get treated fairly, but to remind our company and game studios everywhere that layoffs like this cannot continue"

Sharma's visit to Bethesda was to check in on the development of The Elder Scrolls 6, afterwards posting on X/Twitter to have been shown a "live playthrough" and even appearing to hint at the game's subtitle with a bunch of asterisks. The Xbox boss concluded the post with "The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater."

We believe in you, Scabby!
