Hideo Kojima probably doesn't need an introduction at this point, but the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator recently appeared on Entertainment Weekly to share a new look and details about his upcoming horror game, currently in development for Xbox.

OD was announced way back in 2022, followed by a teaser trailer in 2025, but it's fair to say we're all feeling a little starved for information, especially since Kojima's game was a no-show at industry bestie's Summer Game Fest.

Kojima tells Entertainment Weekly:

"I had this OD concept since I was working on DS1 [Death Stranding] and I was working on it just by myself. I can't reveal much detail, but it's something that no one has ever seen before. A new game system."

Kojima remained tight-lipped for the most part, telling EW that he'd "get in trouble for saying too much!", but at this point, anything new will do.

We understand Kojima is co-writing the game with actor, comedian, and filmmaker Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us), and it features a star-studded cast including Sophia Lillis (It), Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) and the late Udo Kier (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective), but it seems Kojima struggled early on when pitching the project:

"I pitched to many people, to the big companies, and also to the up-and-coming companies. All of them said the same thing... They said that I'm crazy, and that they really don't understand the concept — that they will not be able to do it."

Turns out, only former Xbox CEO Phil Spencer and current boss Asha Sharma understood what Kojima had in mind. Sharma goes on to say OD is a "deeply moving game" and that she's surrounded by "great artists and creatives that can pick a great game better than I can".

Kojima claims that his game will "go beyond the limit of the 'scariness' that other games had reached" whilst teasing a solution for those who'd typically shy away from a scare:

"I wanted to go beyond the limit of the 'scariness' that other games had reached. It's a single-player game, and I wanted to make it as scary as possible. But for those that might stop playing when it gets too scary, I have thought of a system that will allow them to keep going. I can't say much more, because it'll give too much of a hint on the system, and I could get in trouble for saying too much!"

It seems Sharma is looking to make a statement with OD's eventual release on Xbox, concluding with:

"We need to make sure our platform is sufficiently open so more creators and developers can come on board and be successful, because the next Kojima is yet to be known."

Whilst it was nice to hear more about OD, it's still not much to go on, so we'll leave you with a closer look at some of the details lurking within the new screenshot.
