Over the past few months, you may have come across a game known as Samson - it's been highlighted at a few showcases, and it's being created by a new studio (Liquid Swords) formed by Just Cause creator Christofer Sundberg.
Unfortunately, Samson is just a PC game for now, but the developer has confirmed that a console version is planned. Following the PC release on April 8th, the idea is to "get cracking" on what we assume will be Xbox, PS5 and maybe Switch 2 versions.
Here's the confirmation from Sundberg himself:
"We get a lot of questions about console versions of @SamsonMcCray. The honest (and we're always honest) answer is that we don't know when. The game is running on consoles, but we don't have the bandwidth right now to start the final development. We have to go through the platform holder submissions and all that. Once the game is out on April 8, we'll get cracking on the console versions. (Almost) Nothing can stop us!"
While Samson may look very GTA-like at first, it actually seems like more a cross between Driver, Bully, Watch Dogs and unsurprisingly a bit of Just Cause, with the game notably focusing a lot on driving and brawler-style combat.
Various outlets have been hands-on with it recently, including IGN which had the following to say:
"As you can probably tell by now, I had a fantastic time in Tyndalston. If Samson can keep its mission variety fresh – which is no small thing, I recognize – it’ll go a long way towards making its campaign enjoyable over the long haul, versus the extremely fun hour I had with it. I’m curious to see if the city opens up more as the story unfolds, and I hope the story itself is engaging enough to keep me motivated to continue playing and isn’t just “keep doing jobs to pay down your debt until a big climactic mission happens at the end.”
Sounds good, then! We'll let you know if and when Samson gets an official announcement for Xbox along with a release date, and in the meantime you can check out some more details about the game along with screenshots down below.
Samson returns to Tyndalston, a city that shaped him hard, where every fight is close and every escape is earned. He owes dangerous people more than he can pay, and they’re using his sister to force his hand. The clock is ticking. The only way out is through anyone who stands in his way.

It looks cool, would love to have it on consoles.
If it's from the creator of Just Cause then I'm definitely buying it Just by looking at photos of the gameplay it really does look like a mix of driver watch dogs and GTA hopefully they don't use the Unreal Engine 5 because so far I have not been impressed with its performance they should build their own game engine for this game which will allow them to fully optimize this game
At this point, as a developer myself, you are wasting resources developing a game for the Xbox platform unless you are being substantially subsidized by Microsoft for GamePass. With Xbox touting the pending Helix "Hybrid" <cough>, you are better off making it for the PC, PS <insert #>, and Switch 2. The Xbox fans will just buy the PC version like everyone else.
So I take it the majority of Xbox gamers that do not buy the Helix would just miss out then, @ThCajunAsian? I don't dispute the numbers may mean that is the case, but I think so often that people just assume that every Xbox gamer will just upgrade to the Helix. Newsflash: They won't! Not at £1000+ they won't. They'll either stick with their Series consoles, or buy what is likely to be a more affordable PS6 instead...
First I've heard of this one.
@Fiendish-Beaver If the PS6 is going to cost as much as the PS5 Pro, then I won't be getting that either. I'm honestly surprised people are willing to pay that much for a console (especially considering it's digital only).
Also, I think this game looks really cool. I loved the Just Cause games and Mad Max.
@ThCajunAsian yawn
@Sheppard the ps6 will cost more than the pro guaranteed
I agree, @cornholio005 & @Sheppard, I think the PS6 will come in at close to £700-£800 / $900-$1000. And I think the Helix will be more like £1000 / $1300. I just cannot see Microsoft putting out a feature rich powerful PC for less than that, and would not be surprised to see it cost more than that either. Decent PC's are not cheap, even if you build it yourself, and it is getting more expensive to obtain all the components all the time. Even with Microsoft's bulk buying power, I still think they will struggle to keep the costs down, particularly so if it is as decent as they are suggesting...
Give me a physical copy and this is a day one buy for me.
@ThCajunAsian Apparently Microsoft's new SDK for Xbox makes it easier to develop and release games for both PC and Xbox consoles. Does it not make sense to release a game on Xbox consoles, if it's very low effort/cost to do so, even if the game sells less on Xbox than other platforms?
Ive had xbox since the 360, and consoles since NES but if the next xbox is just a pc in a box then ill pass. Ive had pcs before and cant be arsed with the fiddling around to get things working. Still this Samson looks interesting
@ThCajunAsian Starts comment with "as a developer" then continues with the most basic casual gamer opinion possible. Bro... It will be years until the masses that play on Xbox switch to the new gen.
A game I'm interested in that isn't coming to consoles (atleast for a while)...a rare occasion I can make use of my gaming laptop
@ThCajunAsian the Xbox install base is still significant, especially in the US where many owners possibly can't afford a gaming PC as well. It's an attractively priced game made by experienced devs who know this genre inside out. I think it's well worth at least making it available digitally for the Xbox ecosystem. Hopefully it doesn't become another Mindseye.
@16BitHero I do not necessarily disagree. And like you, I do hope that Xbox continues to support both the consoles and their new hybrid. It will come down to development costs on whether it remains feasible. I work with a small team and we "splinter off" when coding for different platforms. We have a plethora of experience as well because of this. As for costs of ownership, Playstation has already shown the future of that with the Console Lease Initiative in the UK. With most Everything As A Service nowadays that model will become prevalent as industry costs continue to climb.
@d3dsho7 Ah a comment from the peanut gallery. Sure, I kept it simple for folks like yourself. Been a developer for over 17 years. What would you like to discuss? Industrial allocation of resources and developmental restructuring/ costs? If so, enable your favorite AI and buckle up, Princess. 😅
@Fiendish-Beaver I would hope not, no. Smaller groups like myself have to prioritize where we can maximize profits while reducing overhead when possible. And no, we will not be replacing PEOPLE with AI. If we can continue to develop for Xbox, we will. From what Playstation just did in the UK pilot to the industry wide push for 'As A Service', the cost of the Helix might not be prohibitive to many users. Leasing rather than owning and subscriptions rather than buying are set to become the new normal.
So Mindseye 2.0 but with punches
