Xbox's South Of Midnight Has A Surprising Connection To Star Wars

All the back in early 2024, we mentioned how Jar-Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best appeared to be working on an Xbox first-party title, and it turned out that was none other than South of Midnight - which released on Xbox Game Pass this week.

South of Midnight is actually the first game that Best has been a director for, getting the title of voice director and performance (motion capture) director, as well as voicing a couple of characters himself in the game.

Here's a bit of what Best had to say following the release of South of Midnight:

Before I was Jar-Jar Binks, performance capture wasn’t a job. To now have the honor of directing performance capture with these wonderful artists has been a dream come true. For me, directing means being in service to the story and having respect for all the artists that collaborate to making the work. That respect means a lot of listening and knowing when to trust the best idea. I always say the best ideas win.

If you're curious, the two characters that Best voices in South of Midnight are Roux and Crouton, which he says he had the "great honour" of bringing to life. He also mentioned that he "can’t wait to cosplay as both of them".

Apologies if you don't find this all that interesting, but as someone who still sticks up for the Star Wars prequel trilogy, I certainly do! South of Midnight has been a game full of surprises for me personally over the past few days...
