The Xbox 360 is an amazing console that boasted an unbelievable library of games, and while some of the best are still playable on modern Xbox consoles through backwards compatibility, there are plenty that sadly never made the jump.
And of course, things got worse last year when the Xbox 360 marketplace officially shut down, taking loads of digital Xbox 360 games with it - including a whole bunch of exclusives that are no longer purchasable anywhere at this point.
Nightdive Studios, the team behind recent remasters of Quake, Star Wars: Dark Forces, System Shock and much more, doesn't want to see those games "lost" to time. In an interview with VGC, studio head Stephen Kick and director of business development Larry Kuperman advised that they "stand ready" to tackle some of these projects.
Kuperman: “I would begin asking a couple of questions. Was it Xbox 360 exclusive, or was there a PC version out too? Because that also changes things, the little preservation that’s available. Do we have source code? If so, what’s the quality of the source code? How about the assets? Those are the kinds of considerations that we have there. That being said, there were some really good games that came out in that era that shouldn’t be lost.”
The company has done an amazing job with every project they've put out so far, and therefore we assume plenty of teams would love to team up in bringing their Xbox 360 titles back from the dead. Circumstances change over time though - studios dissolve, licenses expire, and source code isn't always available or in the best shape.
Whatever happens, it's going to be very interesting to see what projects Nightdive takes on in the future, and perhaps we might even get to see some PS3 exclusives on Xbox as a result as well. That'd be a nice bonus for sure!
Does anything come to mind that you want Nightdive to remaster? Tell us down in the comments below.

Bullet Witch
@Wakkawipeout Bullet Witch has been available on PC for a few years now, an in-house team shaped it up.
I hope some more 360 games get a second chance at life. Not only games that were available at shutdown, but even those stripped away earlier on in the lifespan of the console. Splatterhouse really should have gotten a PC port...
Yeah, nice one. I'd take games like Wheelman, Stranglehold or Remember Me💪🏼
No no. Buffy the Vampire Slayer 1 and 2 from Xbox OG first please.
Army of TWO, especially The 40th Day since it's not backwards compatible.
Condemned 2
Quake 4, Buffy 1&2, Wet, Ninja Blade.
@Kaloudz I never played buffy on the original Xbox but if love to now I loved the show as a young teen at first it was just because buffy was stunning but the show was actually great ha!
Wolfenstein 2009. ❤️
The 360 era had some awesome games! 🚀 Looking forward to what NightDive comes up with..👍🎮🔊
Hands down the greatest home console I’ve ever owned. Such a varied library, great exclusives and I could watch Sky Sports on it over the internet. The final OS was responsive and the Kinect voice commands on-device and almost instant. Being able to just utter ‘Xbox, Pause’ when you leave the room for a beer was so convenient.
How they dropped the ball on the Xbox One I’ll never know.
only really interested in stuff from that gen not on pc, like condemned 2 or the darkness
The Xbox 360 library is great and I still play my Xbox 360 for just that.
A Nightdive-Sega partnership to bring back After Burner Climax and OutRun Online Arcade.
Punisher, jsrf, budokai hd and nightmare before christmas oogies revenge.
Love to see this. Wouldn't it be nice if game preservation wasn't left to the pirates?
The 360 was good times, so many great games worth preserving...
@Ricky-Spanish I saw your profile pic and all I heard in my head was "Im your huckleberry" Lol!
Ah man they were amazing games and canon too. A lot of the real cast read lines for the games too. If you loved the show (I for the same reasons you lol) you'd definitely want to jump on them if Nightdive or Aspyr bring them back. Which is likely now that we finally have a new series with SMG on the way!
@Kaloudz Haha had to stick him up with val kilmar passing😭
Super performance I love the film.
@Ricky-Spanish Ah man gutted! I didn't know until you said that. What a legend!
Bring. Back. Shadowrun. The
Shooter. Game. PLEASE!
Without doubt best first person shooter I ever played. Was so balanced. So much fun. Way ahead of its time.
If make a sequel just as good for Series X. I'd pre-order immediately.
@SMJ quake 4 was a launch game and it ran like ass on the 360, it needed more TLC, I would love a remaster/remake
