We've been very eager to get our hands on Hades 2 ever since it was announced back in late 2022, but unfortunately, we're going to have to wait just a bit longer - because it's getting console priority with the Nintendo Switch 2.
Yes, a new video posted by Nintendo 2 today includes the line "launching first for consoles on Nintendo Switch 2", with more information coming later this year. This statement appears late in the following Creators Voice trailer:
Hades 2 will likely now be coming to Xbox consoles in 2026. The Switch 2 version seems to be arriving in the second half of this year, so don't be surprised if we're waiting another 12 months to get a Hades 2 release date for Xbox.
The same thing happened with the original game, of course - it arrived for PC and Switch in September 2020, and then made its way to Xbox in August of 2021. It looks like the sequel will be following a similar pattern as well.

Tis a shame. I spent many hours playing the first game, though in all honesty, I didn't beat it. I got right to the end... and died, and couldn't face another attempt. 🤪 I did enjoy the game though, and will likely have a stab at the sequel when it eventually arrives on the Xbox because I won't be buying another Switch ever again, as despite owning my current Switch for over 2 years, I have only ever played one game on it, and even that only took a couple of weeks...
Honestly, I don't mind. Playing the first game on Game Pass was the best way I could have imagined for this fun, short and repetitive game (that I enjoyed). This is assuming that the second one will be included in Game Pass. If not, maybe I'll get it on a future Xbox sale, some day.
I never played the first one, honestly. Didn't look interesting for me at all. I'm actually more curious about this one.
I still haven’t played the first, but own it. I guess this gives me more time to beat/play.
But still, pretty beat strip that a game this big isn’t cashing in on an all platform release. Not sure how many people are rushing to buy a switch 2 just for hades
@DJKingaling I think it's one of those cases of indie developers prioritising the platform that sells more indie games, which was Switch, not so sure about Switch 2 repeating the pattern.
I can wait. So long as it's coming 😀
Wonder what the launch price on the switch 2 will be 🤔
Slight correction: The game is also coming to the original Nintendo Switch as well. Supergiant said this on their Twitter recently. So the first consoles to get Hades 2 are the Nintendo Switch 1 and the Nintendo Switch 2.
So its not a Switch 2 console exclusive. It is a Nintendo console exclusive while game is also releasing on PC at the same time.
@DJKingaling People will likely to buy a Switch 2 for Mario Kart or DK (or both).
Besides Hades 2 is also coming to the Nintendo Switch 1, so those on Switch 1 and want Hades 2 don't exactly need a Switch 2 right now to play Hades 2.
This is a proof that exclusivity still matters.
Where is the notorious “industry shift to no exclusives” that MS was telling us?
I now legit have a very solid reason to buy switch 2 early on. Hades was one of the best indie and roguelike games ever.
Now pair it with metriod, zelda patches, donkey kong and mario kart world and you have a very solid lineup for first 6 mobths of release. And exclusive souls game for next year.
Dont get me wronfg - I dont like that. But if you are looking into these games, you need switch 2. Thats how it always worked and I am not sure why suddenly Ms decided its not important
@Millionski oh and you forgot about Tomodaichi Life Living the Dream and Rhythm Heaven Groove coming next year.
@Millionski Yeah, but then if a gamer just cares about exclusivity the best purchase for them will be a Steam Deck. Hades 2 has literally been only on Steam for over a year now. The Steam Deck has access to far more games not available on any console and even games "exclusive" to consoles. All for a starting price that is now lower than the Switch 2. It's really only the first party exclusives if you care that much about exclusives, which a lot of Nintendo fans do, but really the implied argument here is competition. They'll keep their current user base happy but how will they grow? What non gamer or currently Xbox only gamer is dropping $450 on a Switch 2 based on its showing? For whom will the Nintendo Switch 2 be their first console or gaming device period and why? And Heck, Hades 2 isn't even exclusive to the Switch 2. It'll still be on the Switch 1 which will undoubtedly see price drops from retailers soon.
Anyway, I've had the game on Steam since it launched in Early Access and I'm currently sitting on 129 hours. I'll immediately buy it on Xbox whenever it comes to Xbox. But that's it. Frankly if I didn't have a PC this news would just make me purchase a reasonably priced gaming PC (either handheld or laptop (probably wouldn't build my own desktop just yet)), not at all make me want to pay Nintendo's insane asking price for outdated hardware. But hey, maybe this is all a secret ploy to sell more original switch consoles.
@WildConcept6 most of people still dont want PC in any form. Steam deck sold breadcrumbs compared to switch. I actually dont understand why people bash xbox sales every week when it has 30M + of series sold whereas steam deck sold like 4M or so in 3 years and somehow a success.
Overall I would not compare them as despite similar price point they are very different devices.
As a gamer I dont care about how fanbase or business will grow. I only care when it reaches a low point and cause uncertainty which is only xbox consoles within the big 3 console companies.
Also can you elaborate on "but then if a gamer just cares about exclusivity the best purchase for them will be a Steam Deck"? many people dont want any early access or beta versions. Most of PC "exclusives" would be older games or RTS/MMORPG/Shooter games that arent good fit for a handheld anyways.
ill be skipping when it launches because i dont reward stupid practices like this. also wasnt this game unveiled a the xbox showcase a few years ago? only for it to be exclusive to another console is some dirty work
