This week, Microsoft brought yet another day one release to Xbox Game Pass in the form of 33 Immortals - and despite the game's early access nature right now, it seems to be going down pretty well with players so far.
Over on the Microsoft Store, the game has a 3.5 star rating in Xbox Game Preview at the moment, with around 50% of those reviews being a full five stars. Folks seem impressed with the game's combat, and how the team at Thunder Lotus Games has managed to balance and optimise the experience with over 30 players per-game.
Some users have noted the title's difficulty as a potential sticking point, mind, but it sounds like if you're ready for that challenge, 33 Immortals could definitely be worth trying on Game Pass. Xbox Wire, GamesRadar and Xbox influencer Klobrille have also touched on how much they're enjoying the game so far.
Xbox Wire
"Just a short time with 33 Immortals revealed a surprising amount of depth for what could first appear to be a simple action-roguelike. And there’s so much more for me to see: What’s the Ascension Battle like? How hard is it to face down Lucifer? How much more difficult will the second world, Purgatorio, be compared with Inferno? How badass can I make my weapons? What’s it like to run around hell with a beagle by your side?"
GamesRadar
"The first two hours have certainly made me want more, and knowing now how the gameplay loop works, the prospect of exploiting its possibilities to maximize my chances against Lucifer is very enticing. But that said, be warned: it seems it's only fun when the people around you know what they're doing too, otherwise you'll be left high and dry with hordes of abominations engulfing you. Still, it's early days so there's every reason to expect the enjoyment to ramp up as the character levels and weeks tick by and people learn how to play it."
Of course, that overall store rating suggests that some players aren't enjoying 33 Immortals quite as much as others - but the vast majority of users who've actually tried the game seem to be enjoying it right now. It's certainly tempting us into giving it a go!
The good news there is that, as we said right at the top, 33 Immortals is in the Game Pass Ultimate library across Xbox Series X|S and PC - and we're intrigued to see where this one goes as it develops through Xbox Game Preview.

I’ve been enjoying this one so far the only annoying thing is 90% of other players don’t understand basic MMO boss mechanics…like instead of stacking with the group to avoid damage they will be running around still dps’ing…now i know what they mean by “hell is other people”
So really it would probs be 4/4.5 stars if wernt for the mongs who one star games because its cartoony pixels or indie 😥 just because they can aswell since you don't even have to play to review through GP
Does the game have achievements? I had no idea it was Game Preview.
@Kaloudz Nope, not yet That's what keeing me from playing more. Also not sure if there will be a reset after the Game Preview period?
@Kaloudz Nope no achievements but they did make sure they had dlcs (cosmetics) ready for the gamepass preview.
@RiverGenie How nice!
@RiverGenie @MasMenno Argh thanks guys. I'll give it a miss until it leaves Game Preview. I need me some achievements and I hate having to replay when there's a reset 😭
It's part the reason I have yet to play Slime Rancher 2, which has been in Game Preview far longer than first announced (with no good reasons or communication from the Devs)
My personal experience with this game is, if not playing in group, forget about trying to enjoy the game, will be destroyed before able do much anything.
Not saying that's bad thing since the game is really meant for multiplayer. Just more FYI for all to know what to expect.
Been having fun but it sucks getting to Lucifer repeatedly just to die. Hopefully as people learn the game a little more I will finally be able to say I beat him
It's a lot of fun, randoms eventually realize that sticking together in small groups is the way to go. One of the biggest issues this early on is that too many people just rush through the torture chambers, you got to level up your damage and health 3 or 4 times so you're doing proper damage as enemies scale up. Getting to Ascension & Lucifer with a +3 damage is a death sentence.
It didn’t click with me at all. Guess I’ll have to give it another try. It’s probably just not my thing tho.
I tried it and glad I did. I like it and it's been alot of fun.
