Microsoft Posts 'Farewell' Message As Xbox Game Pass Mobile App Goes Offline

Back in September of last year, Microsoft announced that it was going merge its Xbox mobile apps — ditching the dedicated Game Pass version in the process — and after halting new downloads from November, the team has now posted a farewell message as the app goes offline.

As shared over on Reddit, user firewire_9000 spotted a goodbye message added to the Xbox Game Pass app's iOS store page. As this example is from a Spanish-speaking country, the update simply says "Adiós" - so yep, we get the message, Xbox's Game Pass mobile app can no longer be used.

As we explained back in September, the Xbox Game Pass app features have all moved over to the main Xbox mobile app now, so users are still getting that functionality on Android and iOS. Here's how Microsoft explained those changes last year:

Key features – like the ability to explore Game Pass and manage your membership – will now be found in one place with the Xbox app on mobile. You’ll be able to browse the full Game Pass catalog to find your favorite games and stay in the loop with alerts for new games coming to the service.

If you’re a Game Pass Ultimate member, you’ll also be able to view and claim your Perks. As part of these changes, we will no longer support new downloads of the Xbox Game Pass app, starting in November.

Of course, this new way of doing things may be a bit of a pain if you simply want to access XGP information rather than everything to do with Xbox - but that's a minor inconvenience at best, we suppose. We still use the Xbox mobile app for Game Pass stuff pretty frequently, especially when we want to pre-install upcoming games on our linked consoles.
