Update #2 []: April 2nd, 2025 is now the official date of the Croc remaster on Xbox!
"Mark your calendars for April 2, 2025, and get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey with Croc and his quest to save the Gobbos. Whether you're a veteran gamer who played the original game or a Croc newbie, this remaster promises to deliver a heartwarming and thrilling family-friendly adventure that will keep you hooked from start to finish. The PC version can be wishlisted now at GOG, with the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox digital storefronts to follow soon."
Update #1 []: This has now officially been confirmed for Xbox Series X, Series S and Xbox One, and we've got a new trailer to celebrate! The latest press release makes no mention of "this year" though, so perhaps we're looking at a 2025 launch.
"In development for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation®5 Pro, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Windows PCs as an exclusive on GOG, it is gearing up to captivate a new generation of gamers along with its countless original fans."
Original Story: Who'd have thought we'd ever see the PlayStation game Croc: Legend of the Gobbos on Xbox?! Well, that's apparently what's happening later this year, as a remaster has been announced for "all the current consoles".
If you've never heard of it before, this is a 3D platformer from 1997 that proved a huge success for developer Argonaut Games, going on to spawn a sequel in 1999. The new remaster will feature enhanced HD graphics, updated controls and an extensive museum packed with things like interviews and game design documents.
We're still waiting on a release date and confirmed platforms for Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, but "all the current consoles" suggests to us that we're looking at Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S along with maybe Xbox One as well.
"Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Argonaut’s 1997 multi-million-selling hit, features Croc, a lovable crocodile who embarks on a quest to rescue the Gobbos from the clutches of the evil Baron Dante. The game’s charm and creativity made it an instant classic, and the remaster promises to bring the beloved game to a new generation of gamers with enhanced high-definition graphics, updated modern control mechanics, and a nostalgic, fun, and authentic gameplay experience that will be sure to ignite the imagination of players and remind them why they fell in love with video games in the first place."

Awww, Sony is so sweet. They probably figured that their getting Indy in the Spring, so this is their way of reciprocating. Lol.
@Romans12 I don't think they actually own the IP it's a very old game I loved this game as I kid day one for me 100%
Heard rumours about this before so it’s cool to see it actually being announced now.
Clearly PlayStation is deciding on what games to bring to Xbox on a case by case basis.
(Not gonna' lie, this is great, though!)
@Ricky-Spanish they don't own it, to my knowledge. From what I can dig up, the games were published by Fox Interactive and/or THQ and the licence was sold to Vivendi at some point. After that, I don't know.
@Markatron84 Exactly it's nothing to do with Sony as I taught but it's a really good game from what I remember I loved it my memory for the game only came back when I seen this! Was a child playing it on ps1
Um, it was on the Sega Saturn as well
@Ricky-Spanish I've never played a Croc game. I do, however, enjoy 3D platformers so I'll be keeping an eye on this 👍
@UBERSICKO holy s**t, do we have a Saturn owner among us? I thought you guys were just a myth!
@UBERSICKO @Markatron84 I had a 32X and a Virtual Boy. You may bask in my mythical aura for 2 minutes each.
Feel like the whole PlayStation angle is being milked here.. I definitely recall playing this as a hatchling back when it was common to have a 'family PC'!
I saw this and I'm psyched for it. Gex and Croc back in the same year like the 90s never ended!
Fun fact, if the trailer gave you Mario vibes, that's because Argonaut originally wanted it to be a game about Yoshi, but Nintendo turned them down. Turned out fine for Nintendo, but luckily us too getting Croc in the end!
@NEStalgia my condolences.
@Markatron84
I was hiding in the tall grass!
@NEStalgia no for the Virtua Boy, I did have a 32X
@Markatron84 We hide in the shadows basking in the greatness that was the Saturn
@UBERSICKO "I did have a 32X"
Oh! So you were the other one! It's a small world.
@Ricky-Spanish bro I played the hell out of this game as a little kid. I was 7 or 8 years old when I went in this adventure and it's always stuck with me and it's a games I constantly mention to loved ones as one of the games that really got me as a child and now it's coming to Xbox. Man, I'm stoked to play this again! The last time I played this game was 1999 or so, I don't remember if I got the sequel or not but I do know that I got a PS2 in October of 2000 for my 9th birthday. Anyways, excellent to see this on Xbox! Happy gaming ✌️
@Master_Cthulhu70 Hopefully it will be as good as we remember it! Happy gaming my friend!
I remember playing this on my Saturn back in the day. Considering the other platformers we got back then, it was pretty crap.
Weird it's GOG exclusive on PC, but it hitting the older gen systems is great.
Remastering games as old as this actually makes sense. Loved Croc back in the day....
And Gex, Rayman, Spyro, Crash, good times.
There seems to be more than a few fogged up rose tinted glasses with this one. I'm not trying to beef on anyone's favourite game but it seems like the only people calling for a rerelease of this were the original creators and upper members of Gen Z who played it as small children.
This game did not review well on launch and is objectively pretty terrible. We nicknamed it 'Crock of ****' at school for a reason!
I worked with crocs lead animator in my Bullfrog days. Good memories, but like many old titles I suspect its better as a memory. Hope Im wrong though...
... and it was never a playstation game, ive no idea why the author suggests it was. It has nothing at all to do with Sony.
Had it on my Sega Saturn, wasn’t a big fan.
Wonder if they included the missing head glitch that came with the Saturn Version?
It's a really good game might break out the Saturn tonight and have a play 👍
The graphics look like the "Bug" games for Sega Saturn.
@NEStalgia this has nothing to do with Sony. It was also released on Sega Saturn back in the day.
I'm gunna grab this and Glover for after Rare Replay and AC Shadows. Love me some nostalgia.
Any word on the price I couldn't see myself paying more than 20 euros at most for this despite the nostalgia for the game!
Otherwise I'll definitely pick it up on sale ✌️
@Ricky-Spanish I'm in the same boat. I will happily slap down $30 USD day one but any more and I'm gonna hesitate.
Some cool news though? Argonaut confirmed in a recent livestream that if Croc does well, they plan to remaster Croc 2 AND see about a new game. I'm very optimistic as a 3D platformer fan.
@Kaloudz Gex, Glover, and Croc all getting re-releases in the same year is really surreal to me. I'm happy for it but it feels kind of like 8 year old me is dreaming about the future as I imagined it back then. New consoles but more of the stuff I loved (and still do) at the time.
