Sony has unveiled the latest entry in the beloved MLB The Show series today, and the surprising reveal from an Xbox perspective is that MLB The Show 25 will not be part of Xbox Game Pass when it launches on March 18, 2025.
The company simply says that the game "will not be on platform subscription services in 2025", which marks the first time ever since the series arrived on Xbox in 2021 that it won't have debuted as part of Game Pass at launch.
"We are thrilled to announce that MLB The Show 25 will launch on March 18, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The game will not be on platform subscription services in 2025. Early Access begins on March 14, for anyone who purchases the Digital Deluxe Edition."
In terms of what to expect from the game itself, we don't have many details right now, but it's been confirmed the first gameplay trailer will arrive on February 4th. The cover stars are Paul Skenes, Elly De La Cruz and Gunnar Henderson.
It remains to be seen how long MLB The Show 24 will remain on Xbox Game Pass, but it'll probably still be removed around March time. In other words, enjoy your last bit of MLB The Show on Game Pass while you can!

For now ! Surely later
This doesn't bother me all that much. Not a big sports fan myself.
I am probably in the minority here but that is the main game that has me subscribed to Game Pass.
That's a shame. Played a LOT of it on Game Pass last couple of years. Won't shell out for it though. Too many other options teed up for my attention to chase it for $70.
Devastating news for me. I played hundreds of hours of each one that released in gamepass. I loved that inclusion. Road to the Show was my go-to game when I only had 20-30 minutes of free time.
I'm really going to be relying on flight sim 24, halo infinite, and civ 7 this year for that always installed, play regularly games.
Fun while it lasted if so. I have played all of them on Gamepass so far and to be honest, they are nearly identical. I play them for a month or two and then I move on to something else, but hey, that's sports games for you.
I'll laugh if it's due to Series S performance issues.
Live service games eventually hit Game Pass at some point. Gotta get those whales.
I don't even know the rules. 🤣
Never played it! Perhaps they could replace it with Tournament Bowls ‘25. Or a birdwatching game.
@GuyinPA75 It's still coming to Xbox Series X and Series S, just not as part of XGP.
Oh dear what a pity!
Never mind 🤗🙆
@FraserG Guessing the Sony "promotion" period is over on Xbox now. They figure was on game pass long enough, whoever going buy it, will buy it. Makes sense.
I still miss the 2k pitching controls and interface. By far best baseball game for Xbox. Really hope find way make mlb 2k again. Shame it did not sell well.
@Old_Man_Harper don't give people ideas 😭 bird watching simulator 2025 coming soon 🤣🤣🤣
Dang it, now I gotta buy it. Fine, I get 50+ hours out of it every year anyway.
Looks like I will be picking this up next year when the price is down.
Simple answer to this is either MS didn't think it was worth putting the money on the table for it again or MLB/Sony think they can make more cash without gamepass, with sales on either Xbox or PS.
Ive loved the show, but the game has had very little innovation since the late 10's.
I played a lot the past few years on xbox(and bought it every year on ps prior), but 24 burned me out.
Unless they make some major updates(visual and gameplay), im probably going to skip a few iterations.
I think The Show 22 was the best one this gen and they only seem to be getting worse. The Show has the same problem I got with most big sports franchises these days, too much needless bloat. These games don't need to be over 100GB.
@Lup me neither. I know that there are bases and balls.
No graphics upgrade the grass like like n64
@BacklogBrad Surely if you played and enjoyed it that much you’d be willing to buy the game, no? If not immediately at launch then once it goes on sale at least? The game will still be available on Xbox. Doesn’t make any sense to me to deprive yourself of a good time just because it’s not on a subscription service.
@Cakefish definitely won't be shelling out $70 for it. I do own most of these on various platforms but the deep sales don't really hit until late in the season or until the next one is out. I will go back to buying these a full year late at $10.
For as much as I loved playing these at launch, I think I will just find a different game to fill the void.
@BacklogBrad Fair enough! I guess the value calculation is a bit different for these yearly sports titles vs other genres of games.
@Cakefish exactly. It's a fun game that I enjoy to play but it's not something that warrants $70 for a roster update. Gamepass was a blessing for me and this game.
@stripmallp Myself as well. While contrary to Microsoft, Sony eventually made MLB 24 a free to keep game with PS Plus essential (lowest tier still needed for online multiplayer and cloud saves).
Was then able to let my GPU lapse a few months to save some $ (but will still sub 9—10 months per year for other titles including that of EA Play).
