Having first launched on Samsung TVs back in 2022, Microsoft is bringing its Xbox Cloud Gaming service to yet more television sets in 2025. This time around, Xbox is partnering up with LG to start streaming games on another batch of Smart TV devices later this year.
We're not sure which specific TVs will be supported just yet, but given that the feature isn't coming out until later in the year, we should see a full breakdown of which sets will work with Xbox Cloud Gaming closer to launch. Here's what Microsoft has to say on the new partnership:
"Today, we’re excited to announce our collaboration with LG Electronics to bring the Xbox app to their new LG Smart TVs later this year. This means Game Pass Ultimate members will be able to play their games directly from the Xbox app on supported LG Smart TVs via Xbox Cloud Gaming. This gives players even more choice in how they enjoy their favorite games."
Even though we're slowly starting to see Xbox Cloud Gaming roll out to titles outside of the Game Pass library, today's announcement again focuses on games within the subscription service. Microsoft says that "soon, players with LG Smart TVs will be able to explore the Gaming Portal for direct access to hundreds of games in the Game Pass Ultimate catalog".
Earlier this year, the Xbox team also rolled out its Cloud Gaming program to certain Amazon Fire Stick models, and with the team pressing on with its new 'This is an Xbox' ad campaign in 2025, it's clear that Xbox now goes well beyond a traditional gaming console.
LG users, will you make use of this? Talk to us about your Xbox Cloud Gaming plans down below.

It's a bit stupid it's only new models though an update could easily add it to most tvs or fire sticks but they choose not to🤷

Cloud based software has done nothing but slow me down at work as well
When we run on PC and in house several based software everything was quick and instant, one second stuff at the most.
Now I can sit there for 5 to 10 seconds per transaction and printing on cloud is slow as well.
This is not advancement, this is slow you down with less efficiency at work.
Cloud gaming is evolving; it is much better than it was two years ago, and it will be much better in two years. The same goes for Wi-Fi; Wi-Fi 7 is 10 times superior to Wi-Fi 5.
Xbox has taken the lead in this area and has already anticipated the improvement of connections.
Moreover, Xbox Cloud Gaming is still in beta, which proves that it is far from reaching its optimal performance. Xbox is likely preparing a major update for Xbox Cloud Gaming in 2025 to exit beta and release a final, significantly more powerful version.
It is important to note that for now, Xbox Cloud Gaming is not a standalone service; it is included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, so we do not pay directly for cloud gaming, unlike GeForce Now, for example. It is also possible that in the future, Xbox will offer a plan specifically for the cloud, a kind of Game Pass Core + Cloud. The Game Pass Ultimate will always remain the ultimate plan with all services (complete game catalog on PC and consoles, cloud, EA).
@fatpunkslim I wouldn't get your hopes up. Xbox Cloud Gaming has been in beta since 2020 and the streaming quality is just as bad today as it was five years ago. I tried streaming Indiana Jones on my Series X (which is wired to the internet and I have a 500 mbps internet connection) and it looked like a PS1 game. I then went to stream other games on my PS5 through the cloud and they look so much better on there, which is weird considering Sony is using Microsoft's servers.
Either way, Microsoft is definitely taking the lead in offering their service on multiple platforms. But in terms of the actual technology, it's still terrible.
I have an LG TV and will absolutely check out the Xbox app once it launches later this year. If Microsoft manages to offer better streaming quality by then, then there would be no reason for me to buy the next Xbox. I'll just buy a month of GPU whenever a first-party game comes out and simply play it via my TV.
Cloud streaming is definitely the future of gaming. Games are becoming too large and it's much more convenient to stream a game than download it. My friend was over during the weekend and we streamed like 10 games on PS5. The quality was superb and the input lag was pretty much non-existent with every game we played. If Microsoft can just improve upon the quality, then they got themselves a great business model.
I did stream Forza 5 on my ipad pro and it performed and looked great. Never streamed on a TV though so I will be interested to see how it performs when the LG app comes out.
@OldGamer999 it’s a choice, so why are you complaining about something that you wouldn’t deal with?
@donv2135
Because of the way they treating consoles as nothing and the probability that they are so focused on the cloud and ten years from now, the future.
Xbox hardware could easily disappear soon.
I mean just look at November 2024 console sales it was embarrassing.
The only reason they will probably make a next generation Xbox console is because of Xbox game pass subs high percentage on Xbox consoles.
Hopefully it comes to my model of LG OLED so I can give this a try when it comes out.
@LtSarge You can't say that, the servers are much better today, the limiting factor is your local network connection. Move to a city where there is real internet! lol
We can't complain that Xbox offers more choices. I agree that cloud gaming isn't perfect yet, but don't forget that you're not really paying for it today. What you're paying for with Game Pass Ultimate is mainly the game catalog.
@OldGamer999, i think you’re worried about nothing but why you are getting worked up over console sales, so you can feel good about xbox?
@fatpunkslim I can say whatever I want because it's my experience. I've been using Xbox Cloud Gaming on and off since 2020 and I haven't noticed any increase in quality whatsoever. Moreover, the fact that I'm able to stream games on PS5 with better quality than on Series X means that the issue lies with Microsoft, not me.
There’s no disc drive in my LG. Not interested.
4 people are going to be very excited about this.
@OldGamer999 lol a little over the top with that description. Cloud gaming is pretty terrible.
@Balaam_ Nintendo needs to add cartridge slots to TVs and then I'm in. The future is worse, less ownership and worse quality. Only a few good companies remain making high quality products you can keep anymore man.
@OldGamer999 totally agree with this, too much dependency on multiple computers for resources a world away.
@fatpunkslim Is it? Does that mean XCloud isn't evolving or is stagnant?
Because the experience is almost identical to when I was in the alpha tests, what, 6-7 years ago now?
Good to see this isn't Samsung exclusive as it's a cool feature to have in a TV when so many TVs are effectively the same.
I need to get anew TV at some point as the screen on mine has rows of dead pixels, and it'd be cool to have this built in, but when I've got an actual console plugged into it then it's pretty redundant.
A good option for someone without an Xbox, or if you're well off and have multiple high end TVs in your house, or in a holiday home.
Honestly if you are a movie buff and/or gamer LG is one few TVs to go with last few years. LG actually supports (pass thru) DTS and DTS:X.
This year going upgrade from Samsung KS9000 to LG G4 or G5 when see prices. I was lucky enough to get Samsung TV it's last year to support DTS. Samsung now no longer (which is huge mistake, at least for my purchase options now) to support DTS, I'm going LG. Permanently.
Everyone has their preference. But for me, DTS far superior to Dolby.
