Update []: We've now got more details on this one! A release date has been set for April 18, 2025, with the game launching for $49.99 on the Xbox Store. There's even going to be a physical version featuring reversible covers, but possibly only in North America - Clear River Games will be handling the PS4 and Switch physical releases in Europe, but there's no mention of Xbox in today's press release.
"The LUNAR Remastered Collection — a collection of two JRPG classics: LUNAR: Silver Star Story Complete and LUNAR 2: Eternal Blue Complete — will be released physically and digitally on April 18, 2025, for the PlayStation 4 (compatible with PlayStation 5), Xbox One (compatible with Xbox Series X|S), Nintendo Switch™, and on Steam."
Original Story: PlayStation's recent State of Play was loaded with all sorts of Xbox-related announcements, and one in particular for JRPG fans was the Lunar Remastered Collection announcement.
This game will include Lunar: Silver Star Story and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, and launches in Spring 2025 for Xbox One. The updated collection will feature improved graphics, sound, and various quality-of-life improvements like the ability to speed up battles. You'll also be able to swap between the "old school" and remastered visuals.
"The remastered edition brings a host of exciting upgrades, including widescreen support, enhanced pixel art, high-definition animated cutscenes, and all-new English voice acting."
Here's a bit about these '90s JRPGs (via the PlayStation blog):
Lunar: Silver Star Story begins in the quiet village of Burg, where a boy named Alex dreams of grand adventures inspired by the tale of Dragonmaster Dyne. Enticed by adventure and treasure, Alex and his friends set off on a quest, but with the sudden emergence of the Magic Emperor who wishes to control the world, it’s up to them to fight the rising evil and save the world from peril.
Set 1000 years after Lunar: Silver Star Story, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue follows a young adventurer named Hiro, who encounters a mysterious visitor from the Blue Star while exploring an ancient tower. Named Lucia, she insists that she be taken to the ruler of their world, Goddess Althena. Together, Hiro and Lucia encounter the best of allies, the worst of enemies, and the darkest forces of destruction that threaten the whole of creation.

From the looks of it, its going to be the remaster of the playstation version as opposed to the Sega CD version that i grew up playing. oh well, its still lunar though. Might be my nostalgia, but i prefer the voice acting and even the music better on the Cd version.
Never played this one. Well, not true, I think I played the first one once, but I can't remember anything.
A friend of mine is a fan, so maybe I'll give a try depending on the price.
This was my favorite RPG when it was on PlayStation back in the day. I still remember the hardcover instruction manual, and the map that came with the game (unfortunately I sold it on eBay years ago) just a really memorable game as I'd gotten it for xmas back in 1999/2000. If I were to attempt to replay any RPG from the past, Lunar would be my first pick.
So are these the Saturn/ps1 versions? I always kinda liked the sega cd versions best, but I’m still down for these.
@fizban3332 the sega cd versions had great music!
I miss Working Designs. 🥹
Lunar is almost a World Heritage Site. It would be a crime not releasing in every possible platform.
Great news.
Never played this but I prefer the old style like ffvi deffo if the combat turn based like ffvi etc no moving spots etc? gunna grab this and suikoden remaster when they're out😎
I still have my Collectors Edition of Lunar SSS Complete but will be getting this day 1. Love this series.
It's a shame it isn't an "HD-2D"-like remake.
Good to see these coming to Xbox
Glad they're basing this on the superior PS1 versions of the games.
God, I love these games.
I still remember buying Lunar for Sega CD when it came out. It was so cool to hear voices for the characters.
Wait. "The series that started it all"? All what?
Article has been updated with an April 2025 release date!
The series that started all what? There was never a 3rd game in the series, and it definitely wasn’t the first console rpg 😆
I really wish it included the sega cd versions which came out first! These are actually Saturn/ps1 remakes. But I’m looking forward to playing them.
This is such a beautiful game. We had the PS1 version and my sister used to be able to sing the theme song. Actually, I think we still have it somewhere in a box.
Anyhoo, there are a few tropey RPG story elements, but that shouldn't stop anyone because in a lot of those cases this was the first game to have them. I would say what they are but I don't want to spoil anything. Also, this really does give Final Fantasy a run for its money when it comes to the character relationships (and arguably did it better first).
Deffo gunna have to try this never played before and old style turn based are the best 😎
Must buy!

Played both games on the ps1 but I didn't know there was Sega CD version as well. In all likelihood the Playstation version is likely easier to port to modern consoles over the Sega CD version.
I wish they would have updated the graphics into 3D.
