Right, by now you probably know that we're huge fans of Project Gotham Racing here at Pure Xbox HQ - so it's no surprise that when we saw some fresh 4K images of PGR3 in and amongst the Xbox Reddit homepage this week, our hearts skipped a little bit.
Of course, these aren't official images pulled from the Xbox version or anything - the 360 launch title is unfortunately stuck at 720p on native hardware to this day. Instead, the Reddit user in question has taken this classic racer and bumped it up to native 4K resolution using Nvidia's 'AI HDR' toolset (assumedly via emulation).
Whatever is being done to the game image here looks amazing to our eye - these 360 games still look modern with higher resolutions and frame rates applied to them! PGR in particular is still a looker to this day; especially 3 and 4 which look and play great even on Xbox 360 hardware in the modern era.
As an added little bonus, the OP also shared a nighttime shot of the game - taken on one of the game's Tokyo courses. We wholeheartedly agree with their comment here too, it'd be amazing if Microsoft could figure out how to get this game — and the series in general — up and running again on modern Xbox hardware.
For now, we're stuck on past systems at low specs when it comes to playing Project Gotham Racing legitimately - but we're still holding out hope for this incredible series to make its grand return one day.
