When we published our 10/10 review of Death Stranding for Xbox Series X and Series S recently, we only had one thing to put in the "cons" section - and that was related to a Quick Resume bug that had caused issues for some players.
We didn't actually run into a problem with it, but it was clearly causing a headache in some instances, with people losing progress because of the glitch. However, it's now been fixed via a new update, as confirmed by publisher 505 Games:
"A new update is now live for DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR'S CUT on Xbox Series consoles. This addresses the Quick Resume bug that prevented some players from saving their game progress. Game Version is 1.4.1917.0. Thank you SO much for your patience. Keep on keeping on!"
If you want to be as safe as possible, we'd probably still recommend avoiding Quick Resume (we all know that it can cause occasional errors after all), but we're assuming this fix was tested thoroughly, so you should be OK now.
And if you're still on the fence, you've got just under a week to take advantage of the 50% discount for Death Stranding Director's Cut on the Xbox Store, after which it'll revert to full price. In other words, don't wait around if you want it!

It's a decent game with a good enough story but the combat is so lackluster and repetitive it got quite boring after some time. I only got it for free and yet I felt underwhelmed. 10/10 is quite farfetched. Even MGS5 with a brilliant combat wasn't a perfect game and that was one of the best Kojima and all time favourite game of mine.
I’m really tempted to get this but already have it on PS5. Too many new games I want too. I need more money!
@Tonmoy this one does seem to be a bit polarising. I'd love to try it someday but after reading reviews and watching gameplay footage I still have no idea what kind of game it is.
Completely agree about MGSV as well - it got a lot of criticism for the mishandling of the story towards the end of the game but I absolutely loved it. Still rate it as the greatest action game of all time.
I know everyone have their own opinions but a 10/10. Holy *****. I prefer my games being fun.
@Scrubchub It's an interesting world no doubt but if you look past the combat you might find the story engaging but for me the ending was ruined pretty early as I had guessed the ending from the beach scene maybe from dunkey's video. But if you like grinding you might like it.
@Scrubchub I thought Death Stranding looked terrible and was such a ridiculous concept for a game, but I heard them talking about it on Sacred Symbols and it caught my interest. I’ve now bought it on PS5 and for Steam Deck. It’s an extremely weird game that I never would have expected to fall in love with but I did. It’s somehow a very relaxing yet intense game at the same time. It has great atmosphere, incredible music, and a unique but fun gameplay loop. At the price Xbox has it for I truly can’t recommend it enough.
Death Stranding passed me by, but its release on Xbox and all the new attention it's getting has piqued my interest.
I played for about 6 hours and was left thinking is this the actual game and then went read some reviews and discovered walking about delivering packages was indeed the game. I personally found it incredibly boring.
The graphics are great, the soundtrack as much as I heard it was great but for me the gameplay was just tedious
The cutscenes to me exhibit that someone thinks they are being very clever whilst they are not I think if this game did not have Kojima's name associated with it it would be lucky to get a 7/10
I was very hopeful of a great game but it was just meh what was all the hype about as for me this was just utter trash.
I would love someone to point out to me what I am missing as I loved his mgs stuff but I cannot currently fathom how it got the review scores it did
My problem is not with Quick Resume, but devs that don't program their games to reconnect to servers after losing connection. Perhaps there is some reasoning that I am not aware of. I don't see why a player needs to go the main menu or title screen (or even quit the game altogether) just to reconnect.
@Tonmoy I got 10 hours into MGS5 and while I could see it was a great game, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Death Stranding on the other hand I could spend hours just running around delivering packages and to me it’s a masterpiece.
It’s funny how opinions and preferences work. 😅
An easy 10/10. Outside of the bonkers story the game is incredibly chill with a lovely melancholy soundtrack as you traverse the Spartan landscape.
Big single player open world titles were what separated the PS4 from the Xbox One. It’s finally nice to be able to play one of them.
(If Microsoft are reading this a deal with Sony to port their PC titles to Xbox in return for some big tier Xbox games like Halo and Forza would be most welcome)
10/10 huh? Well that's a score I couldn't disagree with more.
I lost about a hours worth of progress to this bug. Glad it's been fixed.
Why is there no poll option for ‘I played this 5 years ago’
I love death stranding even though I was convinced I wouldn't. There's just a genuine sense of exploration to it that is very hard to achieve in games. I loved the moments like when you would be in some desolate corner of the world feeling thinking you were stuck, only to find someone had left a helpful ladder to keep you on your way. Or how you occasionally here other players shouting hello. You can't see them but you know someone else is roaming nearby. Lovely experience all round.
The really frustrating thing I found about the l sub headline here is that by definition of it was 10/10 to begin with then it couldn't get any better.
I'm a grumpy old so and so, I know. These days I much rather ignore scores totally.
That said I have tried to play death stranding three separate times on different devices and not made it very far. I think the game just isn't one for me.
You gotta love folks who come here to sh*t on other people's enjoyment of a game. Get over it, the game is popular whether you like it or not. 😂
@Weebleman you nailed one of the fun points for sure. I'm always tickled when a convenient ladder or bridge appears after connecting a porter. It's completely different from anything I've played before. Occasionally, it can be a bit grindish, but still part of the fun.
I played this a couple times on pS5 and totally missed several non-story critical porters! It's been a blast replaying focusing on achievements. I've discovered whole sections of the game I missed.
@Weebleman "other players shouting hello.."
Is that what that is? I've occasionally shouted out hello and thought it was just an echo... 🤔
@RetroMan71 yeah, it's one of the many kooky little things in the game. If you are in range of another player and they shout hello, you will hear them do it and vice versa. Part of Kojimas 'we're all connected' thing he had with the game.
@Weebleman That kind of has an eerie element to it now. The first time this happened to me, I slid... well no, I fell down a cliff side, panicked and accidently hit the shout button 😊
@RetroMan71 HELLoooooooo....
@Lup honestly the only reason it got so much praise was due to Hideo Kojima's name being attached. You take that exact same game and put a different dev teams name on the box and it's a 6/10 all day, if not lower. And that's coming from someone who's a fan on the game.
