At Gamescom Opening Night Live this year, Grinding Gear Games lifted the lid on an "early access" period for its anticipated action RPG Path of Exile 2.
While many fans were looking forward to this going live on 15th November 2024, there have been some disruptions along the way, and the team will now be delaying this early access period on Xbox and all other platforms until 6th December 2024.
It's not that big of a delay, but if you have been eager to get your hands on it, you will have to wait a little bit longer now.
The game's director Jonathan Rogers admits it's "really bad news" and apologises if it's messed around with player plans. The reasoning behind the decision is a bunch of server-side infrastructure work that has taken the New-Zealand based team a lot longer than expected.
You can see the full update in the video above where he mentions how the team needs to get "everything perfect" before the early access goes live.
Will you be checking out this early access when it eventually launches on Xbox Series X|S? Let us know.

Considering people take days off from work to play these games, I can see why it's a bummer for some.
I want to try it at some point, however I admit the first one is a bit too much for my taste: I admire all the dedicated players, some of which are friends of mine too, yet I'm unable to reach that level of commitment.
***** Diablo doing ***** things
@Pigrotto PoE 2 is supposed to be much more accessible than the first & easier to understand in terms of what everything does. No more hidden mechanics or systems.
I have thousands of hours in PoE and enjoy it a lot. Even so I can see its badly designed in certain aspect. Any game that needs third party apps & websites to explain basic systems is badly designed imo, still fun but certainly flawed.
As for the delay it sucks but if it means a better experience I am all for it.
@RiverGenie thank you very much for your explanation 🙂
One thing that is worth saying about this early access beta is that it will be a paid access and it is a proper beta so things will change and / or break.
They haven't said how much it will cost or how long it will run yet. I expect that info will be given in the stream mentioned in the apology video.
Just like the first one PoE 2 will be free to play eventually when it launches its V1.0
@valtianeea That's never a smart move. Even when the game does come out there will typically be server issues and such on launch day.
@Tyrant_T103
I know. I experienced it firsthand with the launch of Diablo 4. 😅
Wonder how much it's really the Series S causing the issues? Definitely a common theme this generation.
Not even a month wait, no issue from me as November is WAY busier than December.
There they go breaking promises again. They said many times over, all recorded on video evidence, that there would be a simultaneous release for all supported platforms. They shouldn't have repeated this so many times if there was any reasonable chance this wouldn't happen. Thank God my MSI Stealth is more powerful than the series X in every measurable way, so I'll still be able to enjoy. I just believe over-promising and under-delivering on those promises, especially with how much current gen consoles get neglected, they really were stupid. My wallet is tighter as a result. Won't be purchasing a single thing other than stash tabs.
@Pigrotto this one's a new format. Also the skill tree is some 1/5th or 1/10th the size of PoE1. So if you hit the ground running, you can learn "pieces" of the tree as they are added, instead of stare at the huge thing after many expansions have expanded it. As long as you don't start PoE2 7 years from now, the vanilla release skill tree shouldn't be overwhelming at all compared to the first game (as it is now with a billion expansions). It's how PoE1 started out, the tree was not this monster it is today.
@JaffeGaffe ah! I didn't know all of this, thanks!
@JaffeGaffe the delay is across all platforms, not just xbox. It's still a simultaneous release on 6th of december
@Cheshieer Pure Xbox do that a lot with their headlines / articles. Phrase them so it seems Xbox is the only one being delayed when its everyone.
I get that they are an xbox site but it wouldn't kill them to mention other platforms are affected too when that is the case.
@RiverGenie Thank you for saying this. It's very true.
I've also noted the comments "removed" from here are quite biased in their selection. That is not meant as a complement, either. The ironic thing is this comment will not be around long to further support that observation.
Don't know what this game is but a three week delay ain't bad, at least you didn't wait for XDefiant for a year & to be 6 months in for them to have fixed nothing to the point it's so bad it's getting cancelled lmao
