ArcheAge Chronicles Debuts Its Online Action RPG On Xbox In 2025

"A vast and vibrant world brimming with rich lore"

One of the games that was quietly announced for Xbox following this week's PlayStation State of Play event was ArcheAge Chronicles, which is a fast-paced online action RPG that will be coming to Series X and S in 2025.

Said to feature an "expansive open world" and a "dynamic combat system", ArcheAge Chronicles is the sequel to the 2013 PC original that just recently closed its servers. This new version also promises a "deep narrative" and a "player-driven economy" alongside plenty of community features, so it's sounding pretty ambitious so far.

It seems this one was attracting a lot of attention following the State of Play reveal, so it'll be interesting to see how popular it proves when it launches next year. You can check out the trailer above along with more details down below.

Looks very good, @FraserG. What does 'online' mean? Is it a game like Destiny, wherein you will encounter other people that are playing the game, or does it have to be online in order to play it but it is still a solo affair, or indeed, is it co-op?

@Fiendish-Beaver So, I believe it's more about encountering other people that are playing the game - but it does also advertise that you can "connect and adventure with friends and players worldwide".

You can apparently even form town-like communities and showcase the houses that you've built.

@Fiendish-Beaver I dont imagine this will stray far from the mmo roots of the original Archeage. It has more dynamic combat for sure but my expectation is it will still be an mmo too at its core.

Thank you, @FraserG. That kind of sounds like Destiny, which I used to play solo, but with the problem being that you were locked out of the content that could only be played as part of group like Raids, etc. Hopefully, this is a game that can be played entirely solo as it does look pretty decent...

Xbox needs more ARPG, i'm looking forward to Titan Quest 2 next year also.

@Fiendish-Beaver you could play solo up to a point but a lot of the "end game" revolved around pvp. While technically you could solo that too it wasnt usually a fun time.

My biggest concern would be any in game store shenanigans. AA had a pretty bad cash shop even by mmo standards. No idea if that is same in chronicles so huge pinch of salt required.

Just had a look on the stores & PlayStation label it as an mmorpg so there is that.

Thank you, @RiverGenie. I never, ever play PvP, so I'd have to see how much of the game involves that before committing to it. Hopefully it's still worth playing solo. I only ever played Destiny solo, and still found enough there to entertain me...
