We've got some new rumours doing the rounds about Microsoft potentially bringing at least one "big" Xbox game to the PlayStation 5, with an announcement supposedly expected to take place next week at Gamescom.
This information comes from insider 'Shinobi602' (via ResetEra), with some other leakers reportedly backing up these claims. There has also been some speculation this big game could be a port of Forza Horizon 5. However, Windows Central's Jez Corden has chimed in claiming it's not this game, but admits he could still see it happening in the future.
Keep in mind, this is just a rumour for now - so take everything here with a grain of salt. What we do know is that Microsoft has made it clear select exclusives could be released on other platforms going forward. This got underway in the first half of 2024 with the release of Hi-Fi RUSH, Pentiment, Grounded and eventually Sea Of Thieves on the PlayStation 5. A few of these titles also made their way across to the Nintendo Switch.
Xbox has already found success on PlayStation as well, with Sea of Thieves becoming the PS5's best-selling game in recent months. It's also stated it's "really pleased" with the results of its multiplatform strategy so far.
If there are any significant developments, we'll let you know.

Microsoft bunch of greedy corporate AHoles. They could careless about there fan base.
F*ck you Microsoft, announce the closure of Xbox already.
🤦♂️
A single emoji is too short a comment.
Great after giving up an ip Phil isn’t bending over backwards anymore he’s eagle style busting it open for PlayStation …but won’t get anything in return
Starfield probably.
Microshaft has completely destroyed the Xbox brand! What a total complete waste. I seriously doubt Xbox will actually launch a next gen console in the future! Why bother when Xbox is going 3rd Party!
Is it weird or bad for me to not really care about some of their games possibly going multiplatform? Anyway, I’ll believe this rumor when I see confirmation from Microsoft for it. I find a lot of leaks and rumors super unreliable and they seem to always go back and forth between info.
I love my series X but I am now buying most of my games on PS5 now. Xbox going multiplat is ridiculous imo. Kinda makes the Xbox redundant. If all coming to ps5 anyway may as well make my PS5 my main console
Like sand through the hourglass, these are the games of our lives…
My money is on Starfield. Glad I switched to a combo of PS5/Switch/ROG Ally. I would be upset if Xbox was my sole platform of choice. They really messed up this gen when they had a golden opportunity to catch up to Playstation which is also „enjoying” the weakest PS gen ever. Think MS might be trying to capitalise on the game drought on Playstation with those realeases. It’s all about money, as always.
What difference does it make if Microsoft port their big games to the PS5? Looking at the comments above you’d think it was a life or death situation or something.
The value of your gaming platform is not in its exclusive titles; these aren’t the playground days of Sega vs Nintendo anymore. The value is in what it offers you personally.
Would your lives truly be any worse if Forza Horizon 5 or Halo Infinite came out on PlayStation?
Shinobi is definitely a credible source and people can try and just brush it off but it's obvious more games are getting ported.
I think it will be Halo Infinite or Ori
Likely Starfield, but i am going to go a different direction and say it will be Indiana Jones with the release date. Thats a game with a big license that might want more broad appeal. It’s a guess, i don’t know the contract details. But again a safe bet is Starfield. Wow if Gears of War E day comes to PS5 & PS5 Pro Xbox hardware sales could flatline.
Microsoft logic: How to excite people and current players about Xbox? Answer; release games on competitors hardware... 🤦♂️
@CenturianShark The saying is "I couldn't care less".
I’d play through the Horizon games again on PlayStation.
I do wonder if they would drop Halo: The Master Chief Collection on other systems. That’s one of the titles I could see doing well, if not just the novelty of Halo elsewhere.
Besides the tragedy of more people having the ability/opportunity for enjoying games without the requirements of buying extra hardware, news like this should be seen as a positive rather than some apocalyptic event.
@RadioHedgeFund I guess for many who post here have both/3consoles. If we post here we are probably more invested.
So they’ve invested time and money into MS when they were sold a vision of what MS wanted, and MS seem to just be tearing up the script, so people are probably thinking why bother? I can save the cost of buying a console and subscription. Then just get the couple of games over on PS/Switch.
@Pastellioli if games that would have been previously multiplat before the buyout go to PS then okay. A game like Starfield would have gone to PlayStation. My hope is that Microsoft can leverage the additional revenue from the PS base and funnel that back into the Xbox ecosystem. Making exclusive content. I’m optimistic that Microsoft will keep some exclusive 1st party to themselves which they should. As every other company does rightfully so.
If things are going more and more this way, which we think is Microsoft’s plan.
The biggest gaming publisher ever.
Why go to all the bother of designing, setting up manufacturers etc making Xbox consoles.
There seems very little point really.
Also as they say they loose money on selling each console, then they may as well stop making them.
I think the only reason they will bring another console is game pass, as Xbox consoles have over 50% of the game pass subs. And if Xbox consoles go then so do the GP subscriptions, game pass will then look a massive failure.
Microsoft are stuck now and have little problem there with that one.
Keep Xbox consoles, no point.
Hang on Xbox console have 50% of all game pass subscriptions.
Dam what do we do know.
We simply can't have a big gaming event without having some major controversy about Xbox a few days before, usually centered around "rumours", can we?
@PsBoxSwitchOwner The thing is what vision?
The Series X launched with no first party exclusives. Zero. If somebody bought into some sort of vision it was a combination of a laudable attempt to maintain access to past purchases, the ability to play 3rd party games in 4K and being duped into perpetually renting games for all eternity instead of owning anything.
Microsoft really needs to confirm some sort of ground rules for their multiformat plans. I know people who traditionally are multi console folk but now are so sure that "most xbox games will come to PS eventually" they aren't buying an Xbox this gen.
These are people who would 100% sign up to gamepass to restart their Xbox library and simply forget to unsub.
I'm starting to get that feeling from last gen where it seems Xbox has just given up trying this gen, faffing around in the short term in the hopes or making more money in the long term. Which hey makes sense... except we're in that previous "long term" now and we're been having patience for nearly a decade
It was about one month ago I swapped to PS5 as my main and future console and my series x is a game pass thing until I runs out March 2025.
Currently I see nothing to keep me with Xbox.
I feel like it has to be either Starfield or Indiana Jones. It doesn't make sense to announce release dates for the rest of their games at Gamescom only to have that news get swamped by coverage of something like Forza going to PS.
But this is Xbox, and their ineptitude seems to know no bounds.
@OldGamer999 absolutely same. As soon as sea of thieves etc went to PS5 I did the same. My gamepass runs till 2026 and my PS5 is now my main console. I can see the game being Starfield. But we’ll see
Removed - flaming/arguing
@Vaako007 Even though I don’t really mind some games going multiplatform, I do definitely agree that they should be keeping a few of the games exclusive, as I think that’s super important and likely plays a role into the success of the Xbox. Console exclusives are super important in generating sales and giving people a reason for buying it. Keeping some games on the console and then releasing some exclusives on other consoles that could potentially grow even larger audiences (like what happened with Sea of Thieves) and possibly attract more to the Xbox ecosystem could work. Still, I don’t really mind the exclusives going multiplatform, but I can see all the other points everyone else has.
Just before a new gaming event, gamescom this time, where Xbox is again present and PS is totally absent, we get some negative Xbox rumours and get people's attention there instead of the announcements of games and news from the gaming event. I guess MS and Xbox should take the Valve's approach with "leakers" and "rumours" and stop playing around. These rumours positive or negative only harm the brand and nothing else. It could just be the doom 1+2 update or a title like outer worlds 2 or a smaller title. So, actually a big nothing burger. I don't believe these rumours until I see official statements. And of course all the casuals on pushsquare writing there on the comments' section every day and night, show up again to express their hate on Xbox, how they love their ps, etc, taking for granted some unconfirmed rumours that a guy has posted on Twitter...
@Simplejohn I care. He’s right. Microsoft are giving us zero reason to care about the brand. They’ve messed up so bad it’s embarrassing.
Spencer said smaller ip's will go to ps and they will learn from that! I just can't believe they will drop 1 of the best games xbox has to ps, There where rumors back then that Starfield was coming for ps and it never happen! So till it''s an official announcement there is nothing to see here imo.
@RadioHedgeFund vision may have been the wrong term, perhaps buying into the ecosystem would be a better term.
Take me for example I skipped xbone because I had so many issues during 360 era. Came back this Gen because of the proposition of a good console, what GPU offers and so on, but already I’ll be questioning buying the next gen or even gamepass because potentially the games I signed up for GP are coming elsewhere, so why pay all those costs?
I’m not saying that GP isn’t good value or anything, but the incentive is just to play elsewhere.
MS just need some clarity, some proper messaging where everything is pulling in the same direction.
I said all along that once the first 4 games ported, every game that was announced would inevitably have rumours associated with it. Personally I think if any game will be announced I think it will be Starfield (Bethesda had to have at least done some preliminary groundwork for releasing on PS originally)
@Simplejohn
@Simplejohn
Wow you must work for Microsoft
You both have the same attitudes.
The fact that life long day one original Xbox owners are starting to leave Xbox consoles, simple says it all.
Even I'm wondering what the point of Xbox is at this stage
Man Halo Infinite is gonna get announced and STILL have low player count. I'm buying another console after this gen, maybe join the PC world
This isn't new news this was always going to happen and it's not bad news positivity people there's worse things happening than this
Will let me avatar visualise my reaction. An Eggbox Series Eggs is more useful at this point.
@Sifi come on who set up a parody account?
@Sifi If you're the traditional console user then you should wonder fair, but if you're in gaming for gamepass then it's clear that consoles isn't microsofts priority only, the ecosystem and gamepass is, consoles/pc/cloud/mobile and future handheld.
There is an update from Jez Corden that it's not Forza Horizon 5
This isn’t Xbox anymore it’s Microsoft Gaming. This strategy they’re on will make them even richer but will continue to tank their console sales. That’s my prediction.
I see no point in buying another Xbox console at this point. Their first party games are consistently disappointing and they’re full onboard with DEI nonsense. I think I can pass.
Maybe that's how they keep it all worth while. And help fund the next Xbox.
Some may remember during the 8bit and 16bit days that Sega licensed their games for the likes of the Zx Spectrum,C64,Amstrad cpc, Atari ST and Amiga.
It probably gave them loads of money which helped promote their own 8 bit and 16 bit consoles.
I always wondered if SEGA had done the same during the Dreamcast and Saturn era if Sega would be a hardware manufacturer today.
In the end money talks and if that means we get the next Xbox (I do prefer the controller) all well and be it. And all these games are releasing some time after being on the Xbox platform.
I reckon the next one might be Hellblade 2, as the original was on PS4.
@TheSimulator Phil is not in control anymore. He may have a title but its clear from the recent radio silence that the overlords have taken his legs out form under him.
This is just a rumor, last time it was also said the whole catalog was gonna go multiplat and it didn't happen. So, we shall see what happens now, but I think we need to be ready for this. There are ways in which this isn't neccesarily a bad thing, depending on what goes out there. And whatever it is, this is just gaming, let's please not get overexcited like last time!
On other more positive rumor news, there was a rumor on XboxEra about FFXVI coming to xbox earlier today.
this upsets me because i wish nintendo would port their games over instead. if any brand needs to share its nintendo , they have us captive to their crap hardware and software
If it were Forza Horizon 5 (which I doubt), then Xbox would release better games for PS5 than for their own hardware this year.
@RadioHedgeFund
Why buy an Xbox if you can play Xbox games plus the PS exclusives all on the PlayStation?
The Xbox Console has not been 'required' for the last decade - ever since MS stopped making their games 'exclusively' for their Console and decided to release Day/Date on PC.
Their games have been available on Steam Deck consoles and PC so you have not needed an Xbox to play any MS Xbox game. In fact some MS games released on PC first - Gears Tactics, Flight Sim, Age of Empires etc all released on PC before they came to 'Series S/X' and Gears Tactics was a 'launch' title for Series S/X. Minecraft has never been 'exclusive' either despite MS owning that.
Yes some games maybe able to be purchased on Playstation too, but you don't have 'Game Pass' on Playstation. If Starfield does release on PS5, you can play it 'free' with Game Pass on Xbox or pay $70 to play on PS5. Games like Sea of Thieves will require a PS+ Subscription to play as well and if you also want to play on a 'PC' too, then you'd likely have to buy twice. Game Pass Ultimate can let you play 'anywhere' (except Playstation) and buying on Xbox will likely get the PC version too but you won't get that with PS5.
If they do bring FH5 or Starfield to Playstation - that's not really different from Sony releasing their 'exclusives' on PC to extract more revenue from their IP's from 'gamers' outside their own platform. Sony has the PC as well as Xbox/Switch hardware but the PC is also a Microsoft (windows) platform. Also you've had a year or more 'exclusivity' on Xbox, those games aren't 'new' and currently are Console Exclusives to Xbox hardware.
So not only do you get to play 'first' on Xbox, you can also play via Game Pass. If you want to play Indiana Jones, that will be on Xbox consoles Day/Date, can be played at no extra cost to Game Pass Ultimate Subscribers etc. If MS do release it on PS too, you'll have to wait and hope and wait until MS even announce it will release on PS whilst Xbox gamers are enjoying the Game.
I've been saying for months that Starfield will coming to the PS5 towards the end of this year. My money is on the PlayStation receiving a 'complete' edition that also includes the Shattered Space expansion that is releasing later this year...
I don't think Phil has a say in the matter, @TheSimulator. I think Phil understands the importance of exclusives, but the his bosses simply don't care. They just care about the bottom line. It is exceptionally short-sighted, but us gamers have no say in the matter short of playing on the PlayStation instead...
@JH64 Because you can play via Game Pass at no extra cost and the games are already released on Xbox so are 'console' exclusives - even if that exclusivity is 'timed' for a year or more.
Why buy a Playstation when ALL their games are on PC and with Xbox games all on PC too as well as all the 'exclusive' PC games, you have a much bigger Library on PC and won't miss out on Spider-Man or Starfield as both are on PC. Its the same argument - so you may as well quit Consoles because all the games are on PC's and PC has Game Pass too so can play MS games for a LOT less money - and you don't 'need' a Subscription just to play 'online' either...
Yes you maybe able to play some Xbox IP's (CoD, Minecraft, Doom) Day 1 on PS, others (Sea of Thieves, Grounded etc) after some time, but Xbox is the only 'console' you can play via Game Pass and 'Day 1' - even if you can play Day 1 on PS, you'll have to buy. Want to play BO6, well its on Game Pass or $70 on PS5...
No, @Stamnoso, they did not say a whole catalogue would be going over, but the rumours were that every game was under consideration, which is not the same thing. Starfield was specifically mentioned, however there was a huge backlash at the time, and so it is entirely possible that the release of the game was delayed. So the rumours could well be true, but have yet to come to fruition...
I am wondering if Microsoft is trying to steal players from PS5 by doing this… because if they are releasing Xbox best games on PS little by little, and those titles are the most played on PS, this would make Xbox the number 1 game maker on PS.
Now if those players see Xbox is not only a game maker company but also a console maker, and they also see those games they have been playing a hundred hours, are « free » on Xbox with a subscription. They might quit PS ecosystem in the future and stay with Xbox.
Of course, all Xbox games on PS need to be AAAA level with this strategy, but it could work…
I think it will be Starfield, @Arxagelos, and I think it was intended to go with the first batch of 4, but that the storm that was caused by the rumours made Microsoft twitchy and so they pulled it. The success of the games that did go to the PlayStation has steadied any nerves, and so I think Microsoft are ready to weather the storm and allow Starfield to go over once the Shattered Space DLC has released, with the PS5 getting a 'Complete Edition'. The money it makes will be vast, and that alone will be vindication in the eyes of Microsoft, no matter how we Xbox gamers may feel about it (or indeed whether it harms the Xbox console sales in the long-run)...
Doesn’t bother me personally. I have a PS5 and Series X. My Xbox gets 90% of the playtime. And to be honest, the majority of games I play are multi platform anyway. I rarely go for the first party stuff, though Hellblade did suck me in. And even if it was on both consoles I’d stick with the Xbox version. I just don’t like that damn PS5 controller.
It'll be Blinx 3.
Nice, more money for Microsoft.
Xbox will make another console and handheld PC type device and then just rely on other handheld PC systems with Xbox interfaces in the future.
Xbox can create the most powerful console in the world if they want but it still won’t sell. They don’t even market consoles in the UK.
I see adverts for Switch and that’s over 7 years old.
Cloud and 3rd party publishing is all Xbox want now.
Removed - inappropriate language; user is banned
Going 3rd party would mean Game Pass would disappear also… it would be a big loss of money for Microsoft I think…
WoW the world will stop spinning calm down ppl.
Probably Starfield.
Not read the comments yet but I bet there’s some top quality temper tantrums being thrown.
My. God of it's Forza I'll totally spend a few more hundred hours playing on the PS5. Can't.think of any others that would really move the needle for me but look forward to the news nonetheless
@JH64 why buy an Xbox or Playstation when you can play there exclusives on PC?
I don't get these people saying I'm ditching Xbox for PlayStation. When Sony are slowly doing the same thing.
@OldGamer999
Keeping making Consoles isn’t a difficult decision for them at all. That’s why they’ve been very clear that they’re carrying on making hardware. They’re a key part of their strategy. They pull in Game Pass subscribers, they facilitate licensing fees from third parties which is a big revenue stream, they generate peripheral sales, they tie people into the ecosystem through Online play. Absolute no brainier.
@EVIL-C the amount of people that get that saying wrong blows my mind.
The problem with PlayStation getting all the Xbox games (even if some are timed exclusive) is that the Xbox library then just becomes a mere subset of the PlayStation library (made worse by PS5 3rd party exclusives), and one which often provides an inferior experience because of worse optimisation and delayed release of patches etc. Quick resume, full range VRR, and extended backwards compatibility are great features of the hardware, but they’re clearly not enough to effectively compete in the console market on their own. The prolonged decline in sales prove that. Xbox needs more to justify its continued existence because an ever shrinking user base isn’t sustainable. Sadly it’s starting to look to me that Microsoft is content with managed decline of its own platform.
We've all known for some time that the 'hardware platform' is dead. I think they will make a scaled down PC with a slim OS, and a handheld, but to make the mega bucks they need to concentrate on being the 3rd party publisher they now are.
It was pretty clear this would happen when so many were cheering for the activision buy out - I always said there's no extra games for Xbox via this route, and lots of pressure to publish everything 3rd party and maximise profits.
I take no pleasure in any of the above. I liked the 3 hardware platforms we had and believed they all had a place. Moreover, Xbox having some autonomy from the main corp really worked for me and allowed them so much more control. Shareholders couldn't give a stuff for loyal fans, they only want ever increasing profits and that don't come from looking after fans.
At this point I no longer care about 'exclusives' in either direction. PS5 is currently my primary console because I've bought a lot of games on it and my friends are there. But at this point in Xbox's case I treat every game as 'timed' until they say otherwise. I'll buy my games primarily on my PS5 unless there's a 'must play' on Xbox that doesn't release anywhere else at some point.
I don't think I will ever understand the negativity around porting games to ps5.
Everyone wins in this scenario. Xbox gets more game sales and can justify more risks on other games. Xbox gamers gets more and better game variety. We get healthier servers on games like sea of thieves. We can connect with friends or family that are not in xbox ecosystem or even make new friends. Playstation fans get to try the fantastic games instead of just review bombing them on metacritic and twitter.
People just want other fan bases to miss out so they can feel better about themselves and that is kind of pathetic.
@BacklogBrad I'll give you an extremely simple version of the answer.
If all of Xbox's games are on Playstation, and none of Playstation's games are on Xbox, there's no reason to own an Xbox. Sales will evaporate, after which 3rd party support will follow. The beginning stages of this have already begun.
@electrolite77
Totally agree with keeping consoles to keep game pass subscriptions as consoles have over 50% of total subscriptions.
I did say that in my original post.
@Jenkinss if we zoom out and look at sony. They are openly complaining that their 1st party games do not make enough money to justify the budget they spend on them. They drastically switched strategies with a much heavier focus on live service. They are narrowing the console exclusivity window for pc ports and doing day 1 in some cases. It is rumored they have a pc launcher releasing that would mean pc day 1 for all of their games. Their executives have publicly stated we need to consider other platforms and have reportedly even discussed the possibility of heckdivers 2 for xbox.
I wouldn't be too sure that xbox only players will continue to miss out on sony games. If xbox demonstrates that there is money to be made in cross platform then playstation will probably follow in some form even if it requires sony bosses forcing playstation bosses to do so.
I don't think we can argue that developers are leaving xbox behind because of their multiplatform strategy. I assume you are referencing capcom who are using an outdated engine to re-release games from the 2000's.
@Jenkinss not technically true. We have MLB Show, Destiny 2 & Marathon has been announced. So we may get more in the future.
Shinobi is a pretty reliable source but the "big" game must be one that's not a big seller on Xbox, so a FH5 is out of the question imho (wouldn't make any sense to me and is system suicide).
It would make a lot of money if it did though because there is no real competition there. Xbox only fans (with a space ) will go berserk if MS did that.
@cragis0001 mlb is because the deal stipulated it has to be multi platform and bungee had autonomy to release on all platforms. So honestly I wouldn’t get hopes up. They won’t even release crap like concord on MS platform.
Maybe some Sony stuff may end up on Nintendo.
Alright, Let’s hope it’s only a rumour but of course people on here are not going to be happy, We’re Xbox fans on an Xbox website right? So I’d not be so upset if we were going to get some PS exclusives but that doesn’t look to be the case so it’s a pretty one sided deal and that’s what’s so frustrating. Why should we be happy for people that play on another console?
At least this is more consistent with their previous messaging. It was annoying seeing Phil "Two-Face" Spencer simultaneously talk about the issues with platform exclusivity, how games should be available to all gamers, etc. while simultaneously canceling the PS5 versions of games from studios Microsoft bought, paying for temporary console exclusivity, paying companies to restrict their announcements to just Xbox for a period of time, etc.
@Techno92LFC
"Why should we be happy for people that play on another console?"
Perhaps some Xbox owners enjoy the feelings associated with seeing their console maker of choice prioritize gamers on other platforms? Like, maybe a perverse thrill runs up their spines when they realize the PS5 runs Starfield better than their Xbox ever could.
@cragis0001 you think Sony decided to put MLB or the Bungie games on Xbox? 🤔
Wake me up when Sony puts a game on Xbox. It's not happening. They have their boot on Xbox's throat and they're absolutely not taking it off, in fact they're crushing as hard as they can. They've all but achieved victory against their main competitor, the idea that they're about to throw a lifeline is beyond naive.
I have no problem with this. More games to other platforms to make more money for MS which in turn creates higher budgets for more quality games.
@Pastellioli I couldn't agree more. I always loved Sony's system and exclusives but I liked the Elite Controller & Game Pass starting up earlier enough that I pretty much only use Xbox now. They aren't going to outsell Playstations no matter what they do at this point in the console cycles. Just let them make money however they can as long as they don't completely abandon their console owners.
I simply don't care, As long as I get Xbox games day one in gamepass, With a lower subscription price compare with ps+, + with crossplay available in all multiplayer games these days, nothing hurts me if all xbox games well available in other platforms.
If its Starfield I just might double dip and get the plat.
@PsBoxSwitchOwner I said maybe & in the future. As if you said 5 years ago what Sony is doing today you'd be laughed at.
People say it was MLB that stipulated it to go multiplatform because Sony doesn't publish it. Horizon Lego Adventure isn't published by Sony on Switch & we know that Gorilla Games was heavily involved.
@Fiendish-Beaver Yes, fair, not the rumours themselves. I didn't choose my words well. What I meant is that there was all sorts of speculation from media included about Xbox going full 3rd party to the point that some sort of collective hysteria was created and I think a fair number of people believed that.
So, not what it's been said here, but all I'm saying is we'll see, many people raised all sorts of alarms before and it wasn't such a big deal in the end. It might very well be now (a real big big game), or in future.
@Jenkinss to say that Sony had no say in either matter is laughable. Sony could have said no to MLB & found another purpose for the studio. Sony also could have said no to Bungie & found another studio to acquire.
If you said 5 years ago that Playstation games would be day & date on PC & that the Switch would get a Lego Horizon titles with gorilla games being involved. You'd have said the same "no chance" so anything is possible going forward.
@RadioHedgeFund would’ve complain if it was an even playing field and we got god of war on Xbox ect … why waste 500 on a system when ps5 / 6 will have exclusives and more … added with a dual sense controller that devs work with smh branding is important that’s why they spend millions in marketing
@bert0503 it should be hellblade and starfield and if they add halo just the multiplayer not campaign
@PsBoxSwitchOwner exactly why pay for game pass if the big games will go to PlayStation and you can have ps plus
@cburg all it will do is have people bug a PlayStation sign up for ps plus and wait for the good Xbox games to release … why would you need game pass ?
@BAMozzy either way, it makes Xbox a less attractive purchase compared to the PlayStation
@cragis0001 neither thing you've listed is remotely comparable to Xbox putting it's games on Playstation. It's somewhat comparable to Xbox honoring the existing contracts for Deathloop and whatever that Tango game was called. Sony is in the end stages of finishing it's main console competitor. Now that they're absorbing Bungie, I fully expect future Bungie projects after Marathon to skip Xbox as well.
Not sure if they're just going to go and do it and do Indiana Jones or Starfield or Forza Horizon (already one of the most played games on Steam so it's logical), or if they're going to spend 2 weeks letting the internet say it is without correcting it, only to later announce it's Blinx.
@Jenkinss You expect future Bungie projects? O_O
@Sol4ris In a vacuum, I agree. Where people get upset by it is inevitably it leads to attrition of the platform install base which inevitably leads to the company closing it due to low sales. Everyone here is financially invested in the long term prospects of the platform so every move that moves to damage the platform and its long term success is a damaging act to the financial stakeholders, (stakeholders, not shareholders), which would be everyone here.
@Jenkinss but my original answer wasn't meant to be comparable to Xbox going fully 3rd party. But Sony's current strategy is similar to Microsoft's during the Xbox One. My point is that the way costs are spiraling out of control it may get to the point that Xbox gets the odd title. Helldivers 2 & Concord come to mind.
@JH64 To you maybe - but the fact is Xbox will have ALL those games day/date on Xbox hardware and can be played a whole lot cheaper on Xbox too - by the time they release on PS5, the game is 'old', yesterdays news, its finished and Xbox gamers have played it for the last year or more.
Xbox is basically releasing more games on Playstation, dominating their sales charts and being one of the biggest, if not biggest publisher on Sony's platform with their 'old' catalogue that is no longer 'selling' on Xbox as everyone has bought/played on Xbox. Sony have basically nothing for their platform and all their games are on PC anyway - so may as well get an Xbox to play them 'free' on Game Pass or maybe a PC and save having to pay for Online gaming...
Yes you can buy a Playstation and wait, wait and wait for MS to decide to release some games - you may get Redfall or AoE2, Age of Mythology or some other 'old' game that they want to extract more money from Sony gamers who will have to buy if they want to play...
Even if Starfield comes to Playstation - its already last years games. No-one really 'cared' about Deathloop or Ghostwire when they finally released on Xbox and even games like Kena after 3yrs is so much less of a 'release' than a 'Day 1' game.
As I said, you are better of with a PC as ALL the games are released their and can play better than the Consoles. Also will save $75-80 a year on paying for PS+/Game Pass Core just to play online - You'll get all Xbox Day 1 regardless and they have a LOT more Studio's and Games coming than Sony now.
The point of an 'Xbox' hasn't changed - its still the best place to play ALL of Xbox games when they release, maybe even play them 'free' with Game Pass Ultimate and with the 'best' controller too. You can wait 'years' and hope MS will release games like Starfield, Indiana Jones, Avowed, Fable, Perfect Dark, Clockwork Revolution or State of Decay 3 for example and even then, all you get is CoD, Minecraft, ESO/F76, Doom, Age of Mythology and Towerborne because MS chooses not to release those 'big' games on PS5 - maybe release Starfield on PS6 when Xbox gets a 'next gen' upgrade - Sea of Thieves was a 'last gen' game and the rest were AA games that wouldn't sell Game Pass or 'Xbox' hardware anyway. Playstation has 'few' games these days and they release on PC so why buy a Playstation? You can buy a Gaming PC (handheld) for Console money now and it plays MORE games than PS5, Xbox and Switch combined!!!
I really need to get me those Xbox Toaster and Fridge things. At least they will still have a use in a year or two.
It really is amazing how one bad press conference, 11 years ago, threw the Xbox brand off course and due to complete and total incompetence, it never got things back on track. Absolutely pathetic. Sony and Nintendo have both had failures to varying degrees but always bounce back. MS didn't even try.
Xbox is toast. I barely play anymore since all this stuff has been coming out this year. Momentum is slowing, and the writing is on the wall.
I'm living for the comments! 😂🤣😅 The hand-wringing fits are my fave.
MS is going to maximize its IP portfolio. Making it widely available is good for gamers and makes MS money. This idea that they need to keep all their IP as exclusives is stupid and outdated. Console sales are not what makes MS money, but it does help get gamers in the door. Just look at the Series S sales. Stop whining and go if your so selfish. Bye. MS will make more money off of you that way anyway.
Meanwhile, Im enjoying multiplayer games with a wider player base, game pass, and saving money.
I'd love to see all MS games cross play or available on other platforms. They'd earn a lifetime customer in me.
This is indeed becoming tiring.
They need to play nice with Sony and get all of GP on Playstation. I'd happily use PS5 as my main and still happily pay for GP. Win-win for everyone.
I am still enjoying my Xbox Series X. It's a great console, and I'm happy with my decision to buy it. No matter how many Xbox exclusives come to PlayStation, Nintendo, and PC, it won't change my opinion of it.
Once the success sea of thieves showed in being ported was evident, this was inevitable.
I'll sell off my Series S once my gamepass subscription ends. I only got my first xbox console ever last year so I don't have much invested in the ecosystem but can understand why the rest of you are upset.
@OldGamer999 100% agree that MS need the console to keep GP going. People alway make the point that GPU is also available on PC but ignore that the takeup by the PC base is negligable when you consider the size of the PC market. If its not working now then its not suddenly going to rocket when other stores are better.
All i'm hoping for is microsoft making the next xbox a pc hybrid... This is the only rumour i care about and the only way i see xbox being relevant in the future... It doesn't matter if all games goes to ps or some of them, it still damages the brand even with some of them. The should either go with the pc hybrid solution or stop releasing games on other platforms and put an end to all those rumours.
Just looked over at Pushsquare to see if there was something on their homepage indicating "Playstation to announce big game coming to the Series X". The Xbox is at a point now where they are so pathetic and directionless, that's it almost pointless to take time and comment about how bad they are. Almost.
@Ilyn
And that is the worry for GPU, Xbox consoles has just above 50%.
That means all other billions of device that can game GPU are not interested in having it.
That’s not amazing subscription numbers outside of Xbox consoles.
One positive spin on all this is that there are fantastic Xbox games such as Forza Horizon, Gears, Halo, Flight Sim, Age of Empires and more that would make so much money for Microsoft on PS. Phil said they can’t win any console war (have they tried?) so I say port everything at this point. PS gamers are in for a real treat with fantastic games. I know it’s a kick in the teeth to long time Xbox fans but it’s reality and may secure the brand’s future if you know what I mean? Being a massive publisher with some sort of small console platform footprint mixed with PC and phone etc seems viable to me in the circs.
@BAMozzy you lost me at FREE on game pass
