Every few months or so we seem to bring you the news on a huge No Man's Sky update, but today's drop from developer Hello Games is ridiculously jam-packed even by its own growing standards.
No Man's Sky 'Worlds Part 1' is basically a complete overhaul of the Xbox Game Pass adventure. We've seen this sort of thing before from Sean Murray & co., but this patch has genuinely surprised us by how many new things have been crammed into it.
We've got overhauled locations, new volumetric clouds for when you're up in the sky, new detailed shadows, completely re-worked water simulation, fresh wildlife, new weather affects including wind simulation, additional environment diversity in desert and snow scapes, under-the-hood engine improvements, the game's latest big expedition and lots more. Seriously, this is just getting silly now!

If you want to see some of this stuff in action, we've got a deep dive trailer up above courtesy of Sean Murray himself, and the team has also given lots of extra detail via its new blog post on No Man's Sky Worlds. Remember, this is just 'Part 1' - it sounds like Hello Games has plenty more in store for Xbox Game Pass players down the road.
Are you tempted by this huge NMS overhaul? Tell us your thoughts on 'Worlds' down in the comments!

Wow! Just Wow!
I mean, any other developer would easily turn this into a new game and charge full price. Yet, these guys just keep on giving and making this game more awesome than ever! Can I say 'Awesomer'?
@Gabrielmpf I think a lot of these updates are result of the work they are doing on their new game, Light No Fiire
@RiverGenie Still, kudos to the team for making these updates free. They redeemed themselves and then some.
@Gabrielmpf The really interesting thing is that not only do they actually have a new game in the works, but that the new world generation tech was built primarily for the new game, then backported into NMS.
Blooming heck, went on the blog and couldn't believe I kept scrolling and scrolling and still more features 🫡
When is it rolling out to Xbox though, checking all morning and no updates yet?
I really enjoyed the story of NMS but found building and aimlessly exploring the sandbox afterwards uninteresting, so updates to the game havent drawn me back. Does this at least add new achievements to chase?
Reading through the patch notes and checking the screens, I’m still not seeing any evidence of them adding back in limestone rock surfaces or anything that isn’t just black rock. I think I saw one screen that has blue rock surfaces. That’s something I suppose.
I’m glad they finally revised the planets and there are some impressive improvements… But the rock surfaces, man. Maybe Worlds part 2 😑
How many “overhauls” has this game had now?!? 😂 seriously though, I haven’t touched it in years - is it still welcoming to new or lapsed players, or will I find it overwhelming?
Sounds like this should be on my desert island list as I would have to dedicate a large portion of my life to get see this game played all the way through….
Patch still not out on the Gamepass version though.
cant play with my friend on xbox cause only the steam version seems to have had the update so far. This is the 2nd time now updates haven't rolled out the same for everyone. Get it together Hello Games lol.
The only thing I'd love would be cities and civilization, even in a procedural manner.
Something like Daggerfall.
That would be amazing but it's not easy to do right. Look at Starfield.
Waiting it to roll out to GP but looks so amazing! Can't wait!
