Emergence Day is upon us, folks! Xbox dev The Coalition is going back to the roots of Gears with Gears of War: E-Day, and as the hype for it continues, the team has starting acknowledging the upcoming sequel within Gears 5.
Yep, when players now load up Gears 5, they're greeted with a nice little message about Gears: E-Day - breaking down what fans can expect from the game. Here's the full message:
"EMERGENCE BEGINS
Experience the brutal horror of Emergence Day through the eyes of Marcus Fenix in the origin story of one of gaming's most acclaimed sagas.
Fourteen years before Gears of War, war heroes Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago return home to face a new nightmare: the Locust Horde. These subterranean monsters, grotesque and relentless, erupt from below, laying siege in humanity itself.
Built from the ground up with Unreal Engine 5, Gears of War: E-Day delivers unprecedented graphical fidelity."

While there's no new information in here, it is perhaps another statement from the team that this really is the next mainline Gears game. The Coalition has said this already, hinting that fans can expect the full single and multiplayer experience from E-Day, but it's always nice to see that backed up. It seems that folks who are still playing Gears 5 have plenty to look forward to in Gears of War: E-Day!
As for when the game will release, we've heard reports that Xbox is aiming for 2025 internally, but nothing has been confirmed just yet. We wouldn't take this new Gears 5 message as a hint that it's coming anytime soon, but hopefully we're all experiencing Emergence Day for the very first time in 2025.
Excited to be getting a new Gears game soon, Xbox fans? Tell us what you want to see from E-Day down below.

For both Gears 4 and Gears 5, the game reveal was one year, and the game release was the following. However, for both 4 and 5, the reveal included actual gameplay, which obviously the reveal for E-Day did not. Personally, I'm not yet convinced that it will be out in 2025 as I think it will be a launch title for the next Xbox.
Have to say that I would much prefer that they finished with one trilogy before beginning another. I get that 4 and 5 were divisive, with some people wanting to continue with Marcus Fenix at the helm, but for those of us that are invested in the story of 4 and 5, knowing how that story arc concludes is pretty important. For me, the lack of a conclusion does dampen the enthusiasm for E-Day, because what happens if that story is also unsatisfying? Leave that one on an indefinite cliff-hanger too...?
It would be nice if it hits next year but I suspect it won't.
I wonder if Gabe Diaz will be in it, maybe a story DLC.
I hadn't considered Gabe being in the game, @abe_hikura. The only link that I can think of between Gabe and Marcus is Colonel Hoffman, as both characters have had early interaction with him. There is certainly no mention of the two being together at any point in the books, and when Marcus met Kait in Gears 4, he did not make any mention of knowing her father.
All that said, I do like the idea of Gabe or Sid being in E-Day, though just as with Baird and Cole, you cannot have both Gabe and Sid (nor Baird or Cole) in the game as it would conflict with the timelines of when each of them first met. You could have Gabe or Sid, but not both. Out of the two, I think Sid is the more likely, so as not to introduce the Diaz surname...
My body is ready.
If this is not a 2025 release I will have Metroid Prime 4 and Fable to keep me busy.
"Built from the ground up"
Getting flashbacks reading that.
Forza wasn't great when it first released, so hopefully they've learnt from that.
As I've said, I am so happy that they are returning to the horror of 'WAR' that made Gears of War such a great trilogy. I can understand the annoyance of not 'concluding' Gears 5 in a satisfactory way, that it leaves Gears fans wanting a conclusion, but I don't think that would have been as 'exciting'.
In my opinion, I think they should probably of added a new Act or 2 as DLC to Gears 5 to 'conclude' that story, maybe instead of Hivebusters (although that was good too) and ideally, before Gears E-day releases. I think they could or should make two paths - a Dark and a Light Path depending on the decision you made as a 'free' DLC drop for 5. I think that ending though does make it very difficult to do '6' without at least a better conclusion to 5 so I think they ought to conclude that in a better way. Because that choice at the end really does affect any separate sequel - what decision is canon?
@Fiendish-Beaver Yeah I'm leaning towards a 2026 release date for it too based on the same reason that we didn't see any game play this year.
Where’s the gears rts
Marketing has begun. Should be out either late this year or early next.
@Nexozi you know that turn10 and coalition arent the studio right ? being under Microsoft doesnt mean we can blame different studio a we like....il make it simple its like getting someone to jail just because he got the same family name of another criminal
we need gears sooner , the shooter market is stale out here ! at least release a gears collection to hold us over 😭😭
@TakeItEasy @Savage_Joe
