After first being revealed almost two years ago now, we have today seen an extended look at Assassin's Creed Shadows; Ubisoft's first current-gen-only AC title. The series has looked bloody good for a while, but Shadows is really singing with Xbox Series X|S-level hardware now the full focus of the team.
That is very much in evidence up above - Assassin's Creed fans, you'll probably want to check this one out! As was already revealed in the weeks leading up to the show, Shadows launches for Xbox Series X|S on November 15th, 2024 - and here's some fresh info on what you'll be playing on Xbox later this year:
"In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you will live the intertwined stories of Naoe, an adept shinobi Assassin from Iga Province, and Yasuke, the powerful African samurai of historical legend.
Against the backdrop of the turbulent late Sengoku period, this remarkable duo will discover their common destiny as they usher in a new era for Japan. From chaos to purpose, from darkness to light. A new Creed rises over Japan."

I don't care what anyone says, this looks like it's going to be my GOTY.
HYPED! It looks so good.
Definitely getting this one, love exploration.
I am so ready for this game. Pretty much my dream AC (now that the meta plotline is pretty much in shambles. That being said this is my last one. ) Going out with a bang though!
Love how Yasuke is using a club. He was known for his size and strength in comparison to the Japanese (and dutch and Portuguese) he encountered in Japan. The contrast in playstyles looks really fun.
I wonder what the Japanese Isu will look like. If we see any.
Ubisoft is probably the most underrated developer, even though most of their games get good reviews. Weird. I need to beat the Assassin's Creed titles that I haven't played yet.
Personally, I think it sounds fun, but as a Japanese, it's complicated.
Many of the buildings, equipment, and all other aspects do not match the history of Japan.
There are no documents that can definitively state that Yasuke was also a samurai
I hope you will make it clear at the launch that the work is not based on proper historical facts
@xboxjapanfan Yep, the Assassin's Creed games are vaguely based on historic events and characters. What is the video game that reflects the Japanese architecture, history and/or culture the best? I think that the first game based on Japan that I played was Tenchu: Shadow Assassin's on Wii. I thought it was really cool. I wanted to play Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but it's like Souls so nope.
@xboxjapanfan
No game in the series is. It's historical fiction. That's why the final boss in II it's the freaking pope.
@xboxjapanfan Ubisoft puts a disclaimer in every AC game. They essentially take tours of the cities they will use and consult historians to build a foundation but they have always been honest that they have to take liberties as many landmarks no longer exist or have been eroded and they have to alter the landscape to accommodate the gameplay. (AC 3 dev videos go into how they had to structure Colonial America’s cities to make traversal work. )
Even games like Rise of Ronin or Ghost of Tsushima take liberties. Everyone knows this is a video game not a time machine. This is a game series where a progenitor species guided the evolution of humans and were worshipped as gods as an explanation for all the religions in the world.
i'll pass. they got it backwards. i want an ac game set in ethiopia and i play as a japanese guy.
