Microsoft is testing a pretty cool Xbox dashboard feature in its Insider Program at the minute - one that adds a welcome bonus to using and applying dynamic backgrounds on your console. Basically, the new update will allow Xbox users to combine dynamic backgrounds and game art backgrounds at the same time.
The Verge's Tom Warren has done a nice job of showing this off in the tweet down below. He applies the Cyberpunk 2077 dynamic background as his preferred choice, but then also enables the 'show selected game art' feature so that when he scrolls through game tiles on the dashboard, the console quickly switches from the dynamic background to specific game art.
This is a neat feature, especially for the indecisive PX members amongst us who'd like to show off cool game art and one of Xbox's new-gen dynamic backgrounds. At the moment, this feature is being tested in the Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead Xbox Insider rings, before broader testing and eventually a full public release.
"You can now choose to show game art backgrounds for selected games on Home, with any background! Previously only available with the default background, showing (or hiding) selected game art with your preferred background is up to you now.
You can find the new option under Settings > General > Personalization > My background > Show selected game art."
We've seen some pretty great Xbox dynamic backgrounds recently, including the gorgeous Avowed key art image, so this is a very welcome option that we'll no doubt take advantage of once the feature moves to a public release.
Will you make use of this feature once it's available on your console? Tell us down below!

Looks good but I'm sure some will be very unhappy seems the way on here lately
I like that. Now just get rid of the Ad’s and this is the best Ui Home Screen in the business.
The backgrounds don't blend well with the UI. What's the point of the background if you can't even see it because it's blocked by the content. It's as if they didn't think things through first. For me the backgrounds are one of the biggest failures of the Xbox console UI.
They already do this on PS5. My main gripe about dynamic backgrounds on Xbox is that many aren’t actually that “dynamic”, with just barely a hint of movement.
Xbox UI is the worse. Cant barely see the background and there's too many ads. While I'm at it, the achievements needs an overhaul too.
Cool cool, now add a screen-saver like effect that after a set time of no controller input the tiles and the ads go away and just display the dynamic or game background art, on this games console.
The background is hard to see due to the clutter of the Xbox dashboard as is now. But I do enjoy and like the dashboard as it is now. So either way I would be ok.
The nice thing about this is that you DON'T need to set the default background to have game art on. That it's now a blanket override for any background means you can set any background and just leave game art on.
Honestly just don’t care about backgrounds and this kind of stuff. I boot up my console to get to the games I want to play. Have had the same background since I bought my series X and have never once even thought about wanting to change it. I totally get that some people do and the more options the better for those people. I myself just don’t care.
The UI is what I care about and in all honesty, I have no complaints with any of them. I prefer Xbox’s UI but the other ones are just fine as well. Guess I’m just easy to please on this front.
Really Awesome. Something I've been hoping for for a long time. The only thing now That I desperately want is when I insert a disk into my xbox, the option to play that disk doesn't show up over on the far right but pops up on the far left where the cursor always starts at.
