Update: Microsoft has now confirmed that another two Xbox 360 sales will follow in the months ahead, and all of the discounts in the table below will remain active until July 29th, 2024. Plenty of time to make a decision!
Original story: With the Xbox 360 store officially set to close on July 29th, 2024, many Xbox fans have been asking for Microsoft to host some kind of sale before that date comes around - and as of today, we've got one!
As spotted by the folks over at True Achievements, around 60 games have been discounted so far (although this is very much region-dependent), including some digital-only games that will disappear forever on July 29th.
Here's the list of Xbox 360 games that have been spotted on sale — in the US — at the time of writing:
As you can see, a lot of the games here such as Tomb Raider and Far Cry 4 already benefit from more modern versions, but some of the titles in this list unfortunately don't exist at all on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
If you're wondering which games are on the digital-only list, we highlighted a few of the most notable ones here at Pure Xbox last year, and you can also cross-reference with the list over at VGC which includes over 200 games.
Will you be buying any Xbox 360 games for your collection? Tell us down in the comments section below.

I don't get it, wasn't Microsoft onboard with preservation of games? Often being their reason for acquiring development studios. This get them while you can seems to literally be the opposite of game preservation.
what the! i had no idea alien rage was on xbox.
@iplaygamesnstuff microsoft is at war with xbox. guess who will win?
@rustyduck Microsoft Gaming.
o, alien rage isn't bc. good job phil.
Store closure is usually when I declare it open season for emulation. I'm going to need a bigger hard drive for 360.
Noooo, few more weeks before sonic 06 permanently disappears digitally!!
All jokes aside, I don’t have anything to add beyond what’s already been said about Microsoft winning the war against Xbox. Sucks, dude.
I’d say thanks to Xbox for doing this but they’re the ones closing the store down. Still, It’s good they’re doing a sale and it’s a start. Let’s hope they add more to this.
It would have been nice to have this kind of heads up and opportunity for Spec Ops the Line…
@Techno92LFC Most of these are from the same 3 companies so, I doubt anyone at Xbox had a hand in this. Just a few being smart enough to potentially make a few extra sales while they can with nothing to lose.
Poor choice of screenshot. I got excited thinking Forza Horizon 2 was miraculously back on sale!
Unfortunately it had already been delisted by the time I got my first Xbox One
I will likely get a few of these. I have a few physical games I want to back up with digital versions. Child of eden especially.
I already brought some of these. I wasn't expecting a sale. Nintendo never bothered with a sale before Wii U and 3DS closed down.
Anyone know if the sale is coming to UK?
Ok. This is honestly great. And exactly what I would hope a digital store closing would be. I've been all over Xbox for the fubar mess they've made the last couple weeks, but this here? Do more of this. LOTS more. Put EVERYTHING on the store on sale. Screw it! Who cares! I have no idea what Alien Rage is. But it's .99c and non- BC, so guess what. It's a keeper. Gen 7 was by FAR my favorite Gen of modern gaming. There is no downside to going out with a bang!
What of those games are backwards compatible, @FraserG? Many of us started on Xbox One or Series S|X.
@RunGMhx Spec Ops: The Line will remain available post-shutdown as it's a backwards compatible game. All backwards compatible games that work on XB1/Series X/Series S will still be purchasable in the modern Xbox Store after July.
@Arcticpandapopz Yes, this sale is live in the UK right now as well.
@Banjo- As far as I know there are zero games in this list that are backwards compatible. There are, however, plenty of titles that have modern versions for the newer consoles (such as Far Cry 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider, for example).
@FraserG Thanks. That makes sense. The backwards compatible games are available there but also on the new store.
Awesome! I'll definitely jump on the Kinect games on this list. Hope more games go on sale before closure. Come on, capitalist pigs... TAKE MY MONEY 💰
@FraserG Awesome, I definitely get some of these. Any news on if they are going to add more games to the sale? Also does this sale have a current end date. I know on Xbox One and Series S/X. Sales are usually a week. Thanks
@iplaygamesnstuff Backwards compatible games will still be offered in the store on the Xbox One and above digitally.
'The store on the 360 console is what is shutting down' .
@Arcticpandapopz Sadly we can't track Xbox 360 marketplace deals very well so your guess is as good as ours!
@Topov81 Yeah that was one of the last big 360 games, and obviously they didn't update the store years later when it was removed so, be prepared to see it in almost every image as it's still a prominent ad on the 360.
A discount is nice but 60? I mean most of these probably are on the Xbox One anyways. Some like WRC5 I assume the 360 version isn't and the Xbox One version would be but still like wow.
Most of these are pretty typical titles, a handful I'd never heard of but most I had big or small, so I don't see the point.
Well backwards compatibility is left and however many online games left but for how long especially BC OG Xbox no licensing issues there? Servers still up for the updates or access there hmm please. That and the 2025 clock display (unless it auto counts past it) but you can just reset it to 2005 or maybe there is a 2026+ patch or whatever.
Then again who bought the Indie games not moved over to Xbox One/Series? Or the retro classics. Or if backwards compatibility titles were purchasable like they are Xbox One not just updates/access on 360 for OG Xbox titles (or whatever licensing).
Those are more worth it I think then just well get the 360 version physical sure it's more effort in the future but I mean unless it's big it's easy to get digital or physical as it's a big well known IP.
But for Indies and further digital or physical or in digital bundles or something then sure. The physical Triple Indie Pack of Limbo, Trials HD and Splosion Man I own is great but not many get on those let alone the less I assume out there Xbox Arcade disks and those are well known Indies anyway so of course not really missing out as many like Limbo I have a PS4 Limbo/Inside physical and it's always been on Xbox One anyway so it's not hard to get it.
I get some studios are just like eh we aren't going to do anything the store will go down or Pure Xbox are only mentioning big notable titles? If this is the full list then hmm fair enough. The discounts aren't worth it for some but it's still surprising to see any at all discounted.
@FraserG I wish this was the case but unfortunately Spec Ops the line was delisted earlier this year without notice so while it remains playable, it’s no longer available for purchase beside physical.
Didn't even know rise of the tomb raider got a 360 release
im on it. ill never let my 360 die, best console ever and always will be.
@iplaygamesnstuff preservation can only last as long as licensing deals so....
take a wild guess whats globally expiring.
if licenses can be renewed then thats the ones still available on modern xbox systems.
@RunGMhx Ah, I'd forgotten about that! My bad.
It's not going to stay open forever can't understand the moaning about this we got loads of notice and can still buy 360 games on the xbone and series consoles the PS3 store is closed years as far as I know and you can't even play any games you bought on playstation 3 digitally on ps5 they go every generation people need to get real honestly the 360 is nearly 20 years old now time to say goodbye
@Ricky-Spanish I'll never say goodbye to Xbox 360. I will be buried with all of my Xbox 360 consoles and all of the games. I guess I should start looking for a bigger casket now.
@iplaygamesnstuff They can't preserve Games they don't own or have any publishing rights too. Preservation doesn't mean keeping a '360' store open forever when the '360' Hardware has long been out of production so therefore these games are 'useless' as they ONLY run on 360.
Preservation is about making games 'available' and most importantly, playable on any hardware in the future. Microsoft don't own the Software (game code), licences or even the Publishing rights to Third Party releases. Ubisoft own FarCry and its up to them to decide whether or not they want to preserve it - or maybe would rather get you to buy 'newer' Far Cry games or maybe even a remaster/port of old games.
MS can't 'preserve' Spider-Man games made by Treyarch for example and can't 'sell' that through their Store, make it Backwards Compatible to play on Series Hardware etc because that game was delisted as they no longer had the Marvel Licence. Its 'illegal' to sell without the Licence as you are profiting from their IP they had no rights to.
The ONLY games from the Past that Microsoft can 'Preserve' is the games that they 'owned' without any 'complicated' 3rd Party Licences - that includes Licenced Music, Brands (inc Cars in racing games) or IP's (like Marvel, James Bond or Star Wars) as they need 'permission' and/or renewed Licences from ALL 3rd Parties involved.
Other games, like Fifa, is it really worth preserving every annual release? Are you really going to go back and play Fifa 07 or Fifa 15 when you have Fifa 20, 21 etc or EA FC.
Anyway, I don't play on my 360 anymore so any game from that Era that I can't play elsewhere is too late to appeal. If I was that desperate to have played, I'd have bought them during the 360 era.
@Sifi Thanks for the clarification.
What games would people recommend on this list? I have brought a few and excellent games like Valiant hearts I brought back at the time.
Tricky reading reviews because they are based on price and comparing games that came out that year.
@Ricky-Spanish the ps3 store is still open , what are you talking about
@Arcticpandapopz Rotastic is a lot of fun, similar to the now delisted Carneyvale Showtime.
XBLA games have trials so you can try before you buy so no need to waste any pennies 😅
I’m definitely going to pick up Fireburst at that price 😀
@itsgood2slide Rotastic I got at the time, great fun, can't remember if I finished it. XBLA games where a good time in gaming.
I need to try the trial for Fireburst, I have heard mixed things about it.
@nomither6 Do you understand the meaning of as far as I know friend?
@Ricky-Spanish do you? because you didnt know anything, you just made an assumption and hoped that you were right.
@nomither6 Your exactly right which is why I said as far as I know it's a comment on a gaming story not worth the effort for me didn't mean to offend you sorry about that friend
@Arcticpandapopz Cloudberry Kingdom is fun, but it's a co-op experience. For 2 bucks and the small install size I'd say it's worth it. Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a great, and has Split-Screen Co-Op, also delisted on Steam iirc. Mini Ninjas Adventures is fun but a Kinect game.
I've got cloudberry kingdom, I remember that been good. I loved the 2nd Kane and Lynch, so I will have to check out the 1st one. I've still got a Kinect somewhere, I loved Dance Central too much to ever part with it. Thanks
@Nalverus What's globally expiring?
@nomither6 360 was the best? It was good, but I felt this generation was the beginning of PS and Xbox feeling very samey. A lot of the games were available on both consoles. There was a handful of exclusives and that was it. It really came down to which UI and controller you liked more.
