'NVIDIA Buys Xbox' Begins Trending As April Fools' Day Jokes Run Wild

Would anyone actually believe Microsoft could sell its 3rd most profitable division, behind only Azure/Office and ahead of Windows?

Ironically I’d actually love for nvidia to buy Xbox right now. They’re the industry leaders in gpu and ai tech, they also offer the best streaming solution with regards to latency and image quality via GeForce now.

They have no experience of managing development studios, but I doubt they could do any worse than Microsoft has been for the last decade.

It would definitely make hardware comparisons between PlayStation (amd) and Xbox (nvidia) more interesting.

@Neither_scene Interesting, indeed. Now that I think of it, it would be a reverse of the 7th gen, when PS3 used Nvidia graphics, and Xbox 360 had AMD (I guess it was ATI at the time, but still)!

Wonder what that would do to backwards compatibility...

The Xbox as a brand deserves so much better treatment than what Microsoft have shown to our beloved brand. Honestly I would rather have Nvidia than Microsoft at this point.

Yea the would need to pay at least 500 billion which they don’t have and there were old articles of Microsoft buying amd which I do wish happened

Call me crazy, but I wouldn't be surprised if the successor to the Xbox Series X|S abandoned AMD in an attempt to get an edge over the PlayStation 6, and to me that means either implementing an Intel CPU paired with an Intel GPU, or an ARM CPU paired with an NVidia GPU. And while the former could be advantageous if Intel cut Microsoft a deal — significantly more processing power for less — the latter would be a much safer bet, albeit more expensive.

They actually do have some experience managing a development studio... They have their own internal studio, NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios, who have been responsible for a lot of RTX remakes, the Wii ports to the Nvidia Shield, and other ports.

I wonder if this had an impact on the Nvidia and Microsoft stock prices? Someone could have made/lost a lot of money over this...

Terrible symptom of how bad MS PR lets the internet mood run amok with it's brand. We're in this "xbox doomed" cycle purely because they are incapable of clear communication and the internet likes comparing console sales numbers in the absence of revenues to declare a failure.

@101Force The running rumor is Intel+Nvidia. And MS saying "most powerful generational leap ever" doesn't dissuade that rumor. Then again, Switch is Nvidia so does that mean much?

Nvidia couldn't afford Xbox. Microsoft buying Nvidia would have been much more believable.

@NEStalgia : Isn't the Switch's GPU largely based on NVidia Maxwell? I don't think it's a very good metric to go by, considering the architecture is 10-years-old and NVidia didn't really take a (seemingly) permanent lead in the GPU market until 6 years later with the Ampere architecture. Mind you, it's hard to say what architecture would actually show up in an Xbox console considering Microsoft still has to make their consoles attractive enough to consumers to compete with Sony.
