Back at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2023, one of the big announcements was a new game from Atlus that was promising to be the studio's first ever "full-scale fantasy RPG" in the form of Metaphor: Refantazio.
Flash forward almost a year, and we've now got a date for it! Metaphor: ReFantazio will officially launch for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on October 11th, 2024, with physical pre-orders and a Collector's Edition available as of today.
Here's a closer look at the Collector's Edition if you're interested:
Perhaps an even bigger highlight of today is the new trailer you see up above, which provides the first proper look at gameplay for the title so far. There was also a 30-minute livestream that we'll throw at the bottom of the article.
As for what you can expect, Atlus says Metaphor: ReFantazio will be a "culmination of everything that makes Atlus what it is", featuring a "distinctive style & UI, cutting-edge combat, engaging characters and legendary stories".
"From the creative minds behind Persona 3, 4, and 5 comes Metaphor: ReFantazio, a unique fantasy world, where your protagonist will journey alongside his fairy companion, Gallica, to lift the curse from the kingdom’s lost prince. Control your destiny, face your fears and awaken magical "Archetype" powers that lie dormant in your heart.
By awakening to an “Archetype,” you will unlock the power to channel and combine the abilities of unique job classes. Strengthen your bonds and build your party to take down powerful foes and discover the kingdom’s true nature."

I can't bring myself to play this at launch. You know Atlus will do what it usually does and release an updated, definitive version of this in a year or two.
@Markatron84 I think your comment is justified, I get the sentiment. This being a completely new IP, however, makes me not want to risk waiting for a definitive edition. I also just want to show support for a new IP, which I think looks absolutely stunning btw.
This looks exceptional.
Gonna be amazing. I’m torn between supporting it on Xbox and playing it immediately … or waiting for the inevitable enhanced edition. There’s no way I’ll play both, so it’s either play now with excitement, or play later when it’s definitive. I hate that they do that.
@Markatron84 exactly. Drives me nuts. I’ve always played vanilla and skipped the definitive. The exception for me is smt v because I didn’t want to play on switch! This time I’m torn. But I expect I’ll play it at launch again and skip the inevitable definitive later.
Yeah the enhanced edition is surely coming, it totally sucks when you want to jump right in!
