Ara: History Untold was one of the major Xbox first-party releases to feature at 2024's Developer Direct event, although the game's reception so far has been somewhat subdued. Part of the reason for that is likely because the game is only launching for PC on day one, but a new comment from developer Oxide Games confirms that an Xbox version is coming at some stage.
In a recent Steam community post, the dev said that while they're laser-focused on a "top-notch PC-first experience", Oxide will reveal its Xbox plans after the game's initial PC launch.
"Oxide Games is laser-focused on delivering a top-notch PC-first experience, with Ara slated for Windows, Steam, and PC Gamepass later this year. Plans for Xbox consoles will be revealed post-launch!"
This is as good a confirmation as any - and we're definitely looking forward to an Xbox version of Ara: History Untold. Just how the team will convert its strategy mechanics to console remains to be seen, but Age of Empires recently proved that it's certainly doable in this day and age.
For now, Ara is plotting its PC release for Fall 2024, with a console version now confirmed to be coming sometime after that launch.
