Ukrainian developer Frogwares has today announced The Sinking City 2, a follow-up to its 2019 Lovecraftian adventure The Sinking City. The development process sounds pretty early-on with this one, and the team has a tentative 2025 launch date right now for its Xbox Series X|S release.

The newly-revealed sequel will ratchet up the series' horror elements, with a stronger focus on combat and exploration also. This early glimpse definitely looks more cinematic than the original title, and we're quite excited to see where Frogwares takes the franchise. Here's what the team's Head of Publishing, Sergey Oganesyan, had to say about the upcoming game:

"Combat and exploration are the main focus now, with the horror setting more prominent. We’re also going to be smarter with our city design, making our world smaller to keep things flowing better,

We’ve been hard at work focusing on making sure our combat is now central to the game. With this then comes enemy design, to ensure there is a strong visual horror element. On top of that, we also have our level design, story, and world design all leaning a lot more toward horror, so overall it’s a much stronger push in this direction."

The studio has moved over to Unreal Engine 5 with The Sinking City 2, which we're hoping means it can take full advantage of Xbox Series X and S. The team is now fully independent too after a long-winded dispute with publisher Nacon, and if you want to help support them on this sequel, a new Kickstarter page is now live for the project.
