NBA 2K24 has kicked off a pretty busy week on Xbox Game Pass, but according to a 2K newsletter, the title only appears to be planned as a Game Pass option for a relatively short period of time.
The digital newsletter, which has popped up on Reddit, seems to disclose the Game Pass leaving date for NBA 2K24. Apparently, 2K's latest NBA title is scheduled to leave the service on August 31, 2024.
Now, we can't be 100% sure of this leaving date until much, much closer to the time when Microsoft reveals its impending Game Pass leavers - usually a couple of weeks prior to their departure. However, a roughly six-month contract seems plausible considering when 'NBA 2K25' will likely launch - and given 2K's Game Pass history with the likes of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
We'll be keeping our eye on this one, especially when August rolls around, but yeah - it's probably best to give NBA 2K24 a whirl soon if you want to try the title out while it's on Xbox Game Pass.
Are you surprised at this short Game Pass time? Tell us what you think below.

That’s barely long enough to download it - it has a ridiculously large file size for what it is, about 160GB!
Makes sense, get people playing for free, buying add-ons, DLC, MTX. in-game Currency, Season Passes etc and then have to buy the game in 6 months to keep playing, 6 months before the 'next' years entry, '2K25', releases...
Not surprising. September is release month for new NBA 2K game so I expect that Take-Two would want to funnel players there
So basically just a long Demo?
@Old_Man_Harper
I have gigabit internet so that would take about 40 mins
Yeah, with the 166 GB download and the micro transaction hell that is the game. I could care less if it left tomorrow.
But...game will be around long enough to show gamers what a terrible microtransaction trap the game truly is.
That makes sense. Basically running from the last month of the season to the release of the next game.
Their decades of data probably shows very few copies sold during this timeframe.
I don't mind. The entire NBA season is over by June, so we'll get to play this game well into its offseason. Better than nothing
Perfect for me... I just play playoff mode and play now. I dont mess with that online my player/ career stuff. 6 months to enjoy the game I am enjoying it. I might buy it down the road.
I hate that the only basketball game left became so full of distractions that you have to really dig deep and ignore A LOT of stupid stuff to actually play the game. No, I don't want a GTA like career mode inside my basketball game. No, I also don't want to design a shoe, much less spend real money on fake currency.
I can't justify the space this game takes up. 2K19 was the last good one.
I don't mind i never liked them i was a bigger fans of NBA but it do not exist anymore but yea not a big big loss enjoy it while it last on the service and please for the lord of christ do not purchase MTX.
Short life maybe the reason is the next 2K is out in September and possibly be in GamePass.
Well considering these games have a yearlong shelf life anyway… churn the things out year after year…
@ZuneTattooGuy how does that help the guy you’re replying to? That’s like saying to a homeless person “well, I have a house, so…”
