Today's the day for Final Fantasy XIV Online on Xbox! The game has finally arrived in "Open Beta" form on the Xbox Store, and you can download it now by searching for "Final Fantasy XIV Free Trial" on Series X and Series S.
There's one caveat to this, and it's that if you've played Final Fantasy XIV in the past (on PC or PlayStation) and you want to continue that progress on Xbox, Square Enix is telling you to wait until the full Xbox launch:
"We ask any players, who wish to play FINAL FANTASY XIV on Xbox with an existing Square Enix account and its associated characters, to please wait until the full Xbox launch after the open beta test concludes.
To play on Xbox, you will need to link your Xbox account and Square Enix account. You will not be able to unlink the accounts once linked. We ask that existing players please wait until the official release to link your Square Enix account to your Xbox account."
As things stand, there's no word on when the full version will arrive on Xbox, but we do know that it'll be released immediately following the conclusion of the Beta. The Beta's length will depend on how smoothly everything goes.
For those who are jumping into Final Fantasy XIV Online for the first time though, there's absolutely loads of content to experience in the Xbox Beta, and your progress will transfer over to the final release. Xbox has also provided some useful FFXIV tips across seven videos on YouTube, a couple of which you can watch down below.

Yea that sucks. So i have to wait to play it still…. Really random. But then it is Square Enix.
Need two subscriptions and now this, it's like they want it to fail on Xbox.
@ShadowofTwilight that would probably bother me if I was not already subscribed to GP I guess...
@Savage_Joe They don't want to risk existing save files on a demo. Imagine the outrage if a 2000-hour save file became corrupted 🤣.
@Savage_Joe Yes, the demo save file will carry over to the final Xbox version because they are not risking anything there.
@BBB @InsaneWade So right! It reminds me when Cursed Mountain launched and reviewers said that controls didn't work because they had not read the manual 🤣. I didn't have any issues with the game. That said, I will play Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox for the first time but good that you clarified why old accounts don't work. It's refreshing when comments make sense.
