2024 is only just kicking into gear, but Xbox studio Double Fine is already teasing some of what we can expect to see this year and beyond. The Psychonauts 2 developer celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025, and it seems to have things planned for this year and its anniversary year.
The team isn't quite ready to announce what's coming, but apparently there's "tons of fun on the way" - including those "anniversary shenanigans" which will presumably arrive in 2025.
We're not sure what to expect from any of this to be honest, although the team is certainly teasing things quite early. Last year, Xbox delivered a Developer Direct livestream in late January showcasing some of its upcoming projects - with rumours already swirling that another of these events could happen in 2024.
Would Double Fine show up at a potential 'Developer Direct 2024'? Who knows, but what's for sure is that the Xbox-owned studio will have things to announce over the next couple of years - and after the delight that was Psychonauts 2, we can't wait to see what the team has been cooking up.
Are you excited to see more from Double Fine? Drop your thoughts on this tease down below.

I would imagine that if they have 'something' in store for the next 6-12mths, we would see them at the DevDirect (or similar) show. However, I would expect them to focus more on the Games coming 'soon' - like Avowed, Towerbourne, Stalker 2 etc...
Very cool! I love the Psychonauts games especially, but have enjoyed the Cave and Broken Age too. Interested to see what they have coming.
If they had a shadow drop like Hi Fi Rush.... well, I'll try not to get my hopes up.
I did not watch the documentary they did, but heard there was mention of a couple projects ongoing late in Psy2 development, although anything could have happened since then. But maybe..?
Costume Quest 3, Costume Quest 3, Costume Quest 3 ...
I mentioned them in the shadow drop post as a possibility. I am speculating that they have a small pentiment sized project in the works.
Tim Schafer seems like the type of guy that has a few passion projects that he was never able to finance when he was on his own.
I’m very curious what they have cooking up over there. Double Fine are so creative and talented. Can’t wait to see what they can deliver under Microsoft’s funding.
I love Double Fine. I like the types of games it produces. The humor in the games always lands with me. Plus, the company just seems like a fun studio to work for and - judging by some of the dev-diary stuff the company has put out - it seems to be well-managed.
I hope that whatever the studio puts out next still has that AA charm only with a AAA budget!
@Kaloudz is that the Klobrille leak?
Costume Quest 3 and Psychonauts 3. That is all I want from this company.
Can they re-list The Cave & Iron Brigade as to not only be available through GP, or would that be a choice Microsoft would have to make?
@NarutosBiggestFan
To me, DoubleFine is a creative XB studio. So I would like to see another new different game from them. I think Psychonauts 2 is one of the best platformers out there and really enjoyed the Costume Quest games but I also liked their other games like Grim Fandango, RAD, Stacking, and Iron Brigade. So would love to see another quirky and new game from them.
@Kaloudz not sure. I just saw the YouTuber HaloFollower talk about it yesterday. The rumor was that Kiln might shadow drop January February. Certain Affinity might put out a standalone Halo multiplayer title in September.
Of course this was under the guise of “just for fun” so it’s not likely anything will come of it.
Psychonauts 3 please! May be an unpopular opinion but they're other games just don't do much for me.
@NeoRatt Stacking was fun, but all the other games were boring to me. Costume Quest and Psychonauts are the only good games they need to continue.
