The Double Fine Productions and iam8bit established indie showcase 'Day of the Devs' has announced it's now a non-profit organisation.
In a special video announcement, the team explained how it had essentially "always run things as a non-profit" - relying heavily on industry sponsorship and proceeds, but was now making it official.
Here is what the founder of Double Fine, Tim Schafer (known for games like Psychonauts 2 and Grim Fandango) had to say about this:
"As of this moment, Day of the Devs is a 100% independant non-profit entity...And we want to keep Day of the Devs absolutely for all developers and players to attend."
This announcement reinforces its commitment to being 100% platform agnostic, helps donors and sponsors understand "how critical their support is" and allows Day of the Devs to continue its mission to connect independent developers with their communities by spotlighting their games.
"Our mission: to celebrate the creativity, diversity and magic of video games, give a voice to emerging or underrepresented talent, and to connect players with developers, and their games...We have big plans for 2024 and beyond, and we want Day of the Devs to always remain FREE to everyone, but we can’t do any of this without your support!"
The team aims to make its fundraising efforts more public and more transparent, and that will start right away with a Day of the Devs Fundraiser to ensure it remains free to everyone, and so the team can put on a lot of fun events in 2024 and beyond.

I always like these shows. Tim Schafer seems like a cool, down to earth guy. It would be cool if he reveals his next project this year. This year's show is less than 2 months away (March 18th). His game would be a nice closer for the show.
If it's a bigger game it will probably be saved for an xbox show but if it's a small title I could see it being at his own show.
Everything these days is a Kickstarter where you pay first and then wait. Remember when people used to make things and THEN you paid for it if it was worth it
@boatie sure, but do you remember the days when kings and heads of state would pay artists to create, covering all their expenses, for the glory of their realm, with no guarantee of the outcomes? I do, because I am a 2 thousand year old vampire. I forget my point...
