Welcome to your first Xbox Game Pass arrival of 2024! We have a surprise addition to the library today in the form of 2019's Close to the Sun - a first-person adventure often noted for its similarities to BioShock.
Those similarities are mainly from a visual perspective; this is more of an atmospheric horror adventure than an FPS as such. Nevertheless, drawing such a comparison isn't bad for the indie team behind this title, who are bringing it to the Game Pass library for the first time in 2024.
Close To The Sun (Console, PC, Cloud)
"Deep in international waters, Tesla’s Helios stands still. An unbound utopia for scientific research, Rose Archer steps aboard in search of her sister, quickly to discover not all is as it seems. A single word covers the entrance… QUARANTINE!"

Every game that takes place in a dark building where something went terribly wrong before you got there is going to be compared to BioShock?
@ZuneTattooGuy Yes
@ZuneTattooGuy Bioshock did it best first... so yes. Just like an unforgiving Combat experience ARPG is going to be compared to Dark Souls.
do you get a gun? the best thing i liked about bioshock was the badass shotgun.
"Bioshock-like"?
(Checks interwebs)
Currently a 64 on Opencritic from 74 reviews.
Not so "Bioshock-like"
Anybody else get a notification Baldurs Gate 1&2 we’re headed to Game Pass. Unfortunately as soon as I came out of the app it’s disappeared 🤷♂️
Never liked Bioshock so I guess it's a pass. But cool to have more games on Game Pass.
I think the comparisons to Bioshock are fair. I don't think it's a coincidence by any means that it just happens to share a similar look and setting. That said, I'll give it a try. Hopefully it's actually got some fresh ideas and they're not just putting all their chips on it being a (ugh) Bioshock-like to get them by.
@AJM59 I got a notification this morning about them being added.
@CHAOSbutler117
This game looks like a walking simulator, I don't see you getting powers and using guns.
@Lup
If you didn't like Bioshock you might enjoy this since they share almost nothing in common
I tried to explain that the comparisons are from a visual perspective, thought I was pretty clear on that! Maybe I could have gone BioShock-Inspired - similar thing though!
@Rangers420 so I’m not going mad then!
@Kezelpaso It definitely feels like it owes a lot to Bioshock's aesthetic/setting and gameplay — I think anyone would took one look at this trailer and have the same reaction. I think you're spot on and didn't need to tweak anything personally.
That said this looks interesting! Very excited to check this out and a great example of Gamepass giving a game exposure that I'd normally skip over.
@@Kezelpaso you clearly state the similarities to Bioshock are visual and that it's not even a FPS. Short of cranking up the font and making it flash and spin like a Geocities site from 1997, I'm not sure what else you could have done 🤣
Atomic Heart was considered "Bioshock-like" or heavily inspired by Bioshock, but turned out mediocre. Close To The Sun does look similar to Bioshock in art-style. Need to try it out. Steam and IGN gave it a 3/5.
only the first bioshock is good anyway , but this games worth a try since it looks aesthetically like the good one
Awful game not in same class as bioshock
It really is only the aesthetics that are similar.
Middling game, pretty in places until you move and then stuttering breaks the immersion, and you move painfully slowly.
Bit more than a walking simulator though and I've played enough that I want to know where the story goes, which is the highlight of the game so far.
@ZuneTattooGuy I've been playing g it, it's story is cool with Bioshock vibes. Though no weapons or powers to speak of. Is mainly solving puzzles while exploring and running away from threats.
