"In conclusion, Persona 5 Tactica is an immaculate game that seamlessly adapts the style and feel of Persona 5 into an SRPG. The focus on smaller maps and encounters, combined with the One More/Triple Threat system and movement you’re allowed in combat, really make this feel like a unique SRPG entry and something I’d love to see Atlus make more often. With a compelling story, fantastic characters, and incredible style, it’s hard to offer anything but endless praise for Persona 5 Tactica."
"Persona 5 Tactica is a thrillingly varied tactical RPG that fans of the Phantom Thieves and the genre should take note of. It's a little on the easy side, but the varied gameplay, excellent soundtrack, striking visuals, and lovable characters all make for a very easy recommendation here."
"In a year as stacked as 2023 is for quality games, you'd be forgiven for overlooking Persona 5 Tactica—but it's far from just another Persona spin-off. What P-Studio has created here feels like a genuinely revolutionary take on the genre; a unique mix of tactical gameplay and puzzle-solving paired with what is, without a doubt, the best story I’ve had the fortune of experiencing this year. Fans of Persona should pick it up immediately, but I'd also recommend it to any fan of turn-based strategy, whether you're familiar with the Metaverse or not."
IGN (8/10)
"When all is said and done, I had a really good time with Persona 5 Tactica. It's a smaller, easier, less epic experience than its JRPG big brother, but none of that spoils the adventure too much. The combat is quick, clever, and exciting, even if – along with the writing and art style – it seems geared toward younger players or an overall more casual experience."
"Persona 5 Tactica makes the most of combining Persona and tactics (as the name implies) together, forming a charming amalgamation out of the two for a surprisingly dense mechanical experience and powerful story that nevertheless loses something by omitting anything resembling side activities."
"Atlus has successfully translated the turn-based combat of its 2017 masterpiece into a competent tactical experience, though Persona 5 Tactica won't be heralded with the same praise. Consistently good during fights, customising your party and mastering its many stages is where the game is at its best. However, there's little to the title besides those skirmishes, and without any exploration or sense of character progression, this feels like the Phantom Thieves at the end of their tether. Joker and co have enjoyed a great run, but Persona 5 fatigue is well and truly beginning to set in."
"Persona 5 Tactica is a good game, but it is a game that's standing on the shoulders of giants – when the giant is the size of Satanael, you have a lot to live up to. Indeed, it’s very difficult to score this and not compare it to the other games in the series as a result. Tactica is good, but it’s not great, and while it is always nice to sink into that warm-bath feeling of hanging out with your fictional friends, it won’t be remembered as either a series high or the best spin-off the franchise has to offer."
"Persona's never feared testing new directions through its spin-offs and Persona 5 Tactica is one of the better attempts I've seen yet. It could be more ambitious, sure, and P-Studio's newcomer-friendly take on strategy hides enjoyable if sometimes basic combat. Still, an appealing presentation, enjoyable humour, and fine performances help deliver another happy reunion for the Phantom Thieves, though its newcomers are my highlights."
Initial impressions for Persona 5 Tactica are pretty good then - it currently has a 78 Metacritic score overall and a rating of 79 on OpenCritic. We enjoyed our time with the game a lot, and we can definitely recommend it to Xbox Game Pass players for later this week!
