Microsoft and Studio MDHR have revealed that Cuphead will be getting an exclusive free update for Xbox and Windows owners of the game this Friday, and it features a whole bunch of behind-the-scenes content.
Specifically, it'll include an Art Gallery, Music Player, and Behind-the-Scenes video player. The Art Gallery is packed with "never-before-seen concepts and unused art pieces", the Music Player contains the entire Cuphead soundtrack, and the video player hosts recording sessions, unused trailers and more.
Here's a bit more information courtesy of Studio MDHR Co-Director Chad Moldenhauer on Xbox Wire:
"Original sketches, concept art, process footage of painting or model work, unused music tracks, orchestra session footage, you name it. Knowing that we wanted to give our thanks to the Xbox community that has shown us love from day 1, we really thought about the kinds of things we would want to see as fans of Cuphead.
The goal was to make this update feel like a real peek behind the scenes at what went into bringing the game to life, across all parts of development!"
The Cuphead Anniversary Update will be available to all Xbox and Windows owners of Cuphead on September 29th as an automatic download, and you can check out some screenshots down below:

I was awestruck by this game. I really loved those first generation cartoons very much and when I opened the game I felt like I went back in time in those 30s and 40s era. I felt like a child once again. But boy was the game hard at first. It's a piece of art not just game. The amount of love and work behind the project is just unbelievable. I'm glad I was able to experience this gem in my lifetime. Kudos to everyone at Studio MDHR.
An exclusive update for Xbox and PC.... interesting.
@Mauzuri I'm sure the PS and Switch players would have been there since "day 1" if it wasn't a timed exclusive. 🤷🏾♂️
@Mauzuri It is not in game content. Stuff you can probably find online pretty easily for free after release. It's just concept art / music for the most part, it's clearly stated as behind the scenes content.
Now if only there was a "super easy" option added in the update I would be over the moon i didnt get the paid download for this, even though I love the game it just got waay to hard to complete for my old man reactions!
Would love to see it with the DLC on gamepass. I loved it on Switch years back and have been meaning to go back for the DLC
loved this game.
@BeerIsAwesome 😂😂😂 Tesla cars. That's still wild to me.
@Mauzuri MDHR was interviewed by XCast and stated that it was a thank you to Xbox and Xbox fans. At one point they explain how tight the scope of the game was early on, and they difficulties. Xbox ID program helped them make it closer to the original vision.
Before joining the end-product was planned to be just four boss fights with maybe a couple unlockable. As in, you select a boss to fight like Streetfighter. Maybe this addition will come to other platforms later.
The interview was enjoyable to watch. If you have any interest in the industry, this is the second Studio MDHR interview that you may find informative. They were animators that decided to make a game.
One day I will go back and beat Cuphead. I think I fought the dragon too early and got burnt out being stubborn.
