The time has arrived! Starfield preloads have officially begun on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles as well as Windows PC today, with the download size clocking in at over 100GB across all platforms so far.
Specifically, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S download sizes are 100.18GB, while the PC version is 116.6GB. It's worth noting, however, that you'll need around 140GB of free space before the download can commence.

If you're waiting on the Steam version, preloads don't begin on that platform until August 30th, so you're out of luck for now. The Xbox App version is available now though, included with PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
All that's left is to play the waiting game until next month when the early access version launches on September 1st, followed by the standard Xbox Game Pass version on September 6th. We're almost there, folks!
Have you started preloading Starfield yet? Tell us down in the comments section below.

Mine has just started downloading about five minutes ago. It is 100GB download, but I have a feeling that this is not quite all of it. And is not even playable for another three weeks yet.
We have all waited this long, so I am happy to wait a little longer.
Already made space. Will download in a day or two.
@XboxTheBestBox Not yet, sorry! I'll have to keep quiet on this topic anyway due to embargo stuff...
Got it downloading right now. Moving my X1 and 360 games to a External HDD earlier this month was a wise move.
@XboxTheBestBox bethesda typically has a policy of allowing reviews 1 day before release. I believe in this case it is the day of early access, sept 1.
EDIT: Xbox Era has declared that their release will post Aug 31st at 12pm EDT, safe to assume that is the time of the embargo lift.
@XboxTheBestBox I've played it and beat it and it was the most wonderful gaming experience ever. When you turn into a magical unicorn with a BFG 90,000 - YES, 90,000 - and nuke entire planets with it...man...so satisfying. 20/10! Game of the Century. Game of a Lifetime. It melted my eyeballs and then regrew them it was that incredible.
NOTE: Yes, I'm kidding.
On topic: Started my download about an hour ago, so it's probably done by now.
I presume you can still preload if you’re going to be playing it via GamePass?
@Nightcrawler71 Yep, that's right. Got it downloading myself right now.
@Nightcrawler71 Yes. You can install any game at any time using the Xbox App - whether you own it or not or plan to play it via Game Pass. Just can't play it unless you own it or it's available on Game Pass. 👍
Guess I'll start downloading it today while I'm playing Fallout New Vegas.
I have around 1TB of space left on my SSD card, so there is no issue with the file size.
With all the hype around this release, I'm looking forward to the reviews.
@BacklogBrad any time I've seen a day before embargo, prerelease windows were excluded.
I expect to see the "prerelease" be when reviewers can play it, and reviewed no later than a day before the actual release. Given how long it took to go gold, I doubt they sent out review keys.
@Blinx @GamingFan4Lyf Cheers 👍 I’ll probably go for the early access version as well.
@InterceptorAlpha review keys go out before the end of this week according to reports (today according to msn below). Some reviewers should be playing it this weekend. I believe they can post the review sept 1.
EDIT: Xbox Era has declared Aug 31st 12pm EDT for their review posting.

I just hope it will go smoother than the Atomic Heart which preloaded three time 60G
Mine just finished, excited to finally try a Bethesda game hope it lives up to the hype!
Im dowloading anyway, but I fully expect a 100 gig update file on day 1 (or day 5 in my case).
Seems like reviews will be up the 31st, downloading before that as my broadband provider switches over that day 😬
I think the preload was last week wasn't it? Pretty sure I had it loaded on my Xbox for a quite a few days now.
@NintendoByNature That's just the 300mb placeholder that has been availible several weeks.
@Darylb88 ah gotcha. My B lol
@InterceptorAlpha many reviewers already have the review codes now and will be playing up until the 8/31 embargo when they can drop their review.
I haven't been this hyped for a game in a long time. Thinking of going Premium. I really want to play it on the 1st.
Good thing I have 1Gig fiber, downloaded it in 15 minutes. LFG!!!
Since I bought the physical edition (yes, the one with an actual disc - with probably nothing on it, but still) I'll have to wait a little to join the fun.
One of the downside of resisting the all-digital era, I guess.
Not a problem. This one is worth it !
Will likely play on xCloud first to see if I like it. If I think I'll stick with it I'll download then.
@XboxTheBestBox
I went with the Premium Upgrade, its only a little north of $30. And you get early access plus the first DLC expansion
@Bobobiwan
You literally in your post explained why buying it physically is not worth it. It has little to none of the game on the disc. So you are just prolonging the inevitable. This will be the last console generation with physical media
@DoctorJohnDisco
More than likely, it will all be tied to your Microsoft and Bethesda account
@ZuneTattooGuy Oh, I know that. It will come to an end, and that's the natural way of things (nobody on PC seems to regret it).
But for the moment, I'm sticking to physical whenever I can, cause I'm seeing it as as a sort of "physical-tranportable-and-untied-to-any account-licensing". Like : I still can lend games to friends, or family, I can still decide to keep it in my collection or resell it to my local store.
Maybe someday we will be able to that digitally (I'm not particulary up to the page on it, but isn't that what NFT is supposed to be ?).
But I know physical is going to disappear, and I've accepted it, don't worry
