The team behind DC Universe Online has announced that its free-to-play superhero MMO is officially coming to current-gen consoles this holiday season. Available right now on Xbox One (and playable on Xbox Series consoles via backwards compatibility), the game will be getting an upgrade very soon.
Although the team has a relaunch in mind to coincide with its 'Justice League Dark Cursed' update, it sounds like the current-gen console upgrades will actually be applied over time, and at some stage a native Xbox Series X|S version will drop. Here's how the dev explains things:
"DCUO is headed to the latest-generation of consoles with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season!
Along with the performance gains found playing natively on the latest and greatest hardware, the team is also working on gameplay and quality of life improvements to match. This initiative is a long-term endeavor that is already underway. You will see some of these improvements launch over the next few months prior to release on the new consoles, some of them at launch, and some of them following over the course of next year. Stay tuned for a future update with more information."
Strangely, the post doesn't mention Xbox Series S specifically, although we'd assume that's a small oversight right now and that players on Microsoft's all-digital console will get upgraded as well. Hopefully, we get some more details on how each Xbox version will shape up prior to the relaunch this holiday season.
