It's been announced today that the long-awaited Final Fantasy 14 Online Xbox version is finally going to become a reality! The game will officially arrive for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S at some point in Spring 2024.
As revealed at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest, FFXIV on Xbox will feature crossplay, 4K support on Xbox Series X and fast loading times across both consoles. It'll also include an "Expanded Free Trial" featuring a large amount of content:
"The Final Fantasy XIV Online Expanded Free Trial will indeed be coming to Xbox Series X|S, meaning you too will be able to enjoy the entirety of A Realm Reborn as well as the award-winning Heavensward and Stormblood expansions up to level 70 with no restrictions on playtime!"
For those who aren't aware, Final Fantasy 14 Online first launched on PS3 and PC all the way back in 2013, and it's always remained a PlayStation console exclusive since then. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has long expressed a wish for the game to come to Xbox, but it's taken years for a partnership to come to fruition.
As part of today's event, Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu shared a lot of praise for the Xbox boss, stating that Final Fantasy 14's Xbox version was "a project that wouldn’t have been possible without [Phil’s] support".
