Update: It's now been confirmed Microsoft has committed to a 10-year deal for Call of Duty on PlayStation. Sony has also confirmed this with Axios.
"While Microsoft’s initial announcement doesn’t mention 10 years for Call of Duty on PlayStation, Kari Perez, head of global communications at Xbox, confirmed the 10-year commitment to The Verge."
The Verge's senior editor Tom Warren has also been told by Microsoft the 10-year deal is "limited to Call of Duty":
"Microsoft has confirmed to The Verge that Sony's 10-year Call of Duty deal is limited to CoD. Microsoft originally offered to keep "existing Activision console titles on Sony”, including future versions of current Activision games on PS till end of 2027"
Original story: Microsoft and Xbox have officially announced a deal has been done with Sony - confirming a binding agreement between the two video game giants to keep the Call of Duty series on PlayStation when the acquisition of Activision Blizzard is complete.
Here is what Microsoft's head of gaming Phil Spencer had to say about this in an announcement via social media:
"We are pleased to announce that Microsoft and @PlayStation have signed a binding agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. We look forward to a future where players globally have more choice to play their favorite games."
Microsoft's vice chair and president Brad Smith has also chimed in - reaffirming Call of Duty will remain available "on more platforms and for more consumers" than ever before:
"From Day One of this acquisition, we’ve been committed to addressing the concerns of regulators, platform and game developers, and consumers. Even after we cross the finish line for this deal’s approval, we will remain focused on ensuring that Call of Duty remains available on more platforms and for more consumers than ever before."
There's no information currently about the exact timeframe of this deal, but the original offer was a 10-year agreement. Phil also said under oath during the recent hearing how Microsoft would continue to ship all versions of Call of Duty on PlayStation for the next 10 years. Again though, the duration of this deal has not been confirmed just yet.
This latest development follows the FTC losing its appeal yesterday and Microsoft being given the go-ahead to acquire Activision Blizzard. Not long after the victory, Brad Smith mentioned how the tech giant was "another step closer to the finish line in this marathon of global regulatory reviews".
Of course, there's still some work left to do with the CMA, but it looks like both parties are willing to come to a resolution. You can catch up on this in our previous coverage here on Pure Xbox:
If we hear about any other updates, we'll let you know.

So this one is for indefinitely? Or is it like the prior, 10 year agreement?
It's a wrap. Sony signed the treaty of Versailles and ATVI is being delisted on the NASDAQ.
@InterceptorAlpha MS crossed out the '0'. 😄
@BeerIsAwesome call of duty will stay multiplatform
But Crash, Spyro, StarCraft, WarCraft, Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, Prototype, Vigilante 8, True Crime, Skylanders, Farm Heroes, Hearthstone, Candy Crush, and Diablo will all become exclusives!!!
I know I missing other IP’s

@Nighto4 I can assure you, and no offense to the great people that run this site, Ryan ain't reading PureXbox. Hell, I wouldn't even say he reads PushSquare.
Sony just did the inevitable and signed. Even they know that the only reason the deal isn't going through is the CMA bundling the ABK deal with the Ofcom investigation into the cloud, which could ruin that investigation and the CMA's credibility.
@InterceptorAlpha
You must be fun at parties
It was a joke
@BeerIsAwesome No contract of this kind will ever be indefinite. When it expires, they'll re-negotiate. Same as with any other contract.
@InterceptorAlpha no company would ever sign a contract in perpetuity. Im sure COD will always be on playstation but they would have to re-sign on terms after this 10 year went through.

@Deshalu That is probably the biggest question mark to all this.
Sony was so worried about losing its CoD cash cow, that the narrative completely revolved around it. Microsoft sure as heck wasn't going to bring it up (easy to battle over one IP than all of them)
I know the FTC lawyer tried to get Microsoft to commit to other IP when Phil was on the stand, but the judge cut off the questioning before he could answer.
I would hope Microsoft would continue to release historically multi-platform IP to other platforms just given all the scrutiny this acquisition has gone through, but anything new that the developers will come up with (if at all) will be exclusive to Microsoft ecosystem.
Just like MS has been saying all this time.
If Jim had not been such a baby, they would had managed to secure absolutely all existing IP remained on PS, not just CoD.
We now know that Phill actually offered that for all IP that had shipped on PS4, meaning also all future entries of games like Crash and Spyro. But no, Jimmy wanted everything, even Bethesda games, to sign a deal. Now, they only end up getting CoD.
Edit:
I was asked for source on this offer in Push Square, so figured I'd post it here too:

Surely ms buying up the Industry and making games exclusives is the opposite of that
@GamingFan4Lyf you said you hope that they keep historically multiplatform games multiplatform.
I hope they do make them all exclusive, that’s what Sony would do. F Sony!!
I agree it sucks to lose exclusives, but I’m a little lost on why Sony fans are OK with them making games exclusive to their platform, but it’s not OK for other companies.
I hope they continue to buy More Studios
Does this mean that Jim still needs to send new PS5 pro or ps6 dev kits to Microsoft owned companies to secure parity between consoles ?
Hihihi I love that idea because you know how he hates that.
@Artois2 interesting you write this on an article about a game that will be literally everywhere. Very interesting.
@Kaloudz moneyhatting exclusives and buying studios essentially has the same endgame, keep games away from others. I prefer an ecosystem that is console ps cloud rather than a walled garden approach on only console. One is more accessible that the other, and people fail to realize that.

@Kaloudz no lol and to your other point, i think xbox finally having a big budget (where historically they were VERY underfunded) and sony going after starfield after securing ghostwire and deathloop really got xbox sick of losing out on games and moneyhatting only to have companies want more the next time.
@Snake_V5 gaming industry will be getting interesting Snake. Gonna be a crazy next few years, i bet!
I don't mind Phil Spencer, I just don't like all his hypocrisy. He says "We look forward to a future where players globally have more choice to play their favorite games." Meanwhile, the ABK deal is literally doing the exact opposite.
@J_Mo_Money The only good thing I can say is that all of this is finally over. At least gaming can go back to normal and continue on again.
Removed - trolling/baiting
@Snake_V5 I heard Sony pulled out their Ouija board and summoned their dead IP Killzone in order to get revenge.
@BeerIsAwesome they'll renegotiate the contract because Microsoft will have made a f**k-ton of money from Call of Duty still being on PlayStation.
@bpomber actually, its not. Its LITERALLY going to more places than it was previously. Where is the lie?
Removed - flaming/arguing
Had to of been a great feeling sliding that contract across the table
I'm more concerned over everything else.
@J_Mo_Money how is games like Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush, and Redfall being taken off PlayStation (the console with the largest player base) give people more choice? I would think it gives people less choice since PlayStation is what most gamers have had in the past two generations.
@Kaloudz ''Nice and slow like. With the "you know you want it" vibes 🤣 perhaps sliding it back towards themselves after sliding it forward halfway''
I can just imagine both of them going for the contract and end up with hands touching, Phil Spencer gives them a wink and says ''we all want the COD'' with Kenny G Songbird playing in the background.

@BrilliantBill Oh no please don't remind me of Haze! it was so bad it killed the studio

@WallyWest ''Tomb Raider and Dead Rising being timed is fine. The hypocrisy on this site is amazing''
I don't know anyone who praised Microsoft for making Rise of the Tomb Raider a timed exclusive, they actually got a lot of sh*t for it. Dead Rising started off as a Xbox 360 exclusive so bringing it up is pointless.
@J_Mo_Money why are you so angry about this and making assumptions about what I think? It's so hard to have a genuine conversation on this site because people get so defensive.

@Sol4ris Almost like Sony and MS are as bad as each other for 3rd party deals.
Can’t wait to see where the industry goes from here. Times are a changing and purexbox will have quite the articles moving forward!
@Solidchief Dead Rising 4 was timed and every DR barring 3 is on PS now. My point is people on here moan about Deathloop being timed while ignoring all the timed deals MS has done and still does. I'm not defending Sony here i'm just pointing out both do it despite how much people on here like to pretend otherwise. Sony and MS are as bad as each other something the Xbox players doesn't see.
This has been a really, really, really, really, really wild ride. I'm glad we got a happy ending, though.
@J_Mo_Money I also stated facts. More than one thing can be true. I'm not arguing your facts because what we both said aren't mutually exclusive.
We both made valid points, why can't we just leave it at that and not get defensive and start making assumptions about the other person? I'm not going to spend my time trying to make a stranger on the internet agree with me. It's okay if we disagree.
@Kaloudz I don't blame them, it was a very very hectic week and this is not the only thing the Push Square staff has had to pay attention to during the week. I'm sure Liam had much more on his plate, and was not able to look at every single bit of info that came up during the hearing.
I seriously hold Liam in high regards.
I on the other hand have been able to ignore most other game news and just look at this stuff during that week (and my day work, but thankfully it was a VERY lite work week.)
They should have put in the deal that Sony in Exchange stop paying third party developpers to prevent them from bringing their games to xbox consoles, like they do with square Enix.
@bpomber we can absolutely disagree on opinions. If you think the industry as a whole is worse off then yes thats an opinion and we can split there.
I’m just stating that the number of users that have access to certain games are factually larger than before, with the consoles the mobile users, pc, streaming services ect. The pool is bigger combined.
Removed - trolling/baiting
@Kaloudz meh, only saw one dude do that. Then again, I replied with sourcing quick enough. Had I gone out with my day and come back tomorrow, the usual suspects (that I have not blocked yet) would have likely also joined in on it.

Very curious if this also means they agreed to terminate early their marketing deal. Under that deal, MS gets higher royalties but cant add new CoD games to Game Pass at least until 2025.
The 10 year plan was never about making CoD exclusive on year 11. People need to recognize that MS will probably not be making CoD exclusive ever. They do not want that.
10 years was used to guarantee what they have already been saying, that they don't want it as an exclusive. No lawyer would ever let MS sign a deal that said forever so they went with the round 10 years which is already an eternity for gaming.
It doesn't matter if this deal is for 10 years or not because they will not be making it exclusive if the deal is not in place.
Surly this is enough now for the cma to just accept it and not screw uk gamers over like they look like they want to just like our stupid government keep doing constantly
@Tharsman i think the marketing is absolutely going back to ms early but playstation actually wanted that, so i dont think they would extend game pass to 2025 Id actually expect this next year unless marketing is stopped immediately, then id still have hope COD goes in THIS year.
@WallyWest
Why is Deathloop and Ghostwire being timed bad but Arc 2 and Stalker being timed is fine?
None of these are fine. But are you really making equivalence between Stalker (exclusive for a few months, 4 I think) not sure about Arc 2 to the likes of FF16 and FF7R?? By the way when can Xbox only gamers expect those on their console, any ideas?
Cod was always going to remain on PlayStation, from day 1 the deal was announced.
Profit from COD will help fund gamepass expansion.
@Sakai yup
@BeerIsAwesome
And after a show of destructive power, emperors will bow to presidents. Or generals. Or that guy the movie currently in cinemas is about
Indeed, definitely not a fan of emperors they seem to wear way to many new clothes😉
@Sol4ris threads be looking DAPPER!
What's with mods, they're on a rampage 🤣🤣.
@J_Mo_Money PlayStation indeed wanted that, its on the email i linked, but we dont know if Xbox wants that.
Microsoft upper management wanted this deal to make money immediately out of the door, they seem more interested in money than its benefits to Xbox. I could see them not agreeing to the early termination so they can have an excuse to keep the games from Game Pass for 2 more years, and earn more money via a combination of higher profit share and users still needing to buy new entries on Xbox for the next two years.
@Deshalu I doubt it. CoD, like Minecraft, and a LOT of ABK games have 'strong' Multi-player Communities across multiple Platforms. You have an Active Online Community on various platforms that MS want to 'keep' and actually 'grow' those Communities by expanding them to 'more' platforms.
Whilst everyone has been focussed on CoD, the deals have stated that they intend to bring ABK games (inc CoD), as well as 'Xbox' games to more Platforms. They won't pull Overwatch 2 from Playstation and will keep supporting that - same with Crash Tag team Rumble, Diablo IV or any of their 'older' games either.
What you 'may' expect to see is New IP's and especially Single Player games - to be exclusive. These are the games that will bring Gamers into Xbox/Game Pass specifically to play. You aren't buying an Xbox to play 'CoD' for example as you can buy a Playstation, Switch etc you buy it for Starfield, Forza, Hellblade etc and Online games with 'established' Communities are best used to sell their games on other Platforms.
Ultimately, if you are a Fan of CoD, Overwatch etc, even if you play on Playstation, you are a 'fan' of a MS owned product and will pay them money to play their Game and the 'more' people in that Community, the more 'money' they can generate - especially with Cosmetic MTX as people are more inclined to customise their character(s) if they can show them off and be 'unique' amongst other players...
We will have to see what happens long term - maybe CoD will go F2P under MS, MP built into Warzone and that gets 'updated' periodically instead of releasing a new game every year, freeing up those Studios to make 'Games' - maybe organise a dedicated CoD studio to handle CoD - let the Staff decide whether they want to remain making CoD or move on to other projects - inc AA/smaller games (like Pentiment).
@Tharsman hoping diablo makes an appearance even tho Mike said it wouldnt. $70 too rich for my blood lately! #TeamCheapSkate

@BeerIsAwesome
For maker's sake, no!
We should only use those as an asteroid defensive shield.
@Deshalu Bro, Hearthstone isn't even on consoles
@OM1993 snake is good people. We gotta get dbz avatar on him, tho!
@InterceptorAlpha I agree he wouldn't be looking at either site , it's just ps won't publish a negative article ( jym Ryan's email for eg ) just I'm case Ryan does look at the site one day lol
@BeerIsAwesome
if it meant Sega returns to making consoles
Drolls at thought of JSRF, Shenmue...
I have both systems but this whole saga doesn’t interest me in the slightest. I just hope it will be over soon because of the media coverage. I don’t think I’ve ever played any of their games.
I'll be honest if it was me heading Xbox I'd be saying ... Remember saying
"I don’t want a new Call of Duty deal. I just want to block your merger.”
Well looks like u get nothing
@J_Mo_Money I say Diablo is 50/50 chance of either being there quickly only for xbox, or taking a while to be added.
All PC games will take a while, since PC Game Pass integration will require some sort of tech hurdles for Battle.net to recognize Game Pass accounts. It's not unlike how it took a while for EA games to be added to Game Pass PC.
There is also a high chance that games like Diablo 4 might be held back until Battle.net is integrated with Game Pass PC before they enter Game Pass Xbox.
@Tharsman i want starcraft on console. Not n64 starcraft but a better version lol. One of my favorite games of all time.
@OrfeasDourvas hearthstone is coming to GamePass lol
I am willing to bet it wasn't Jim Ryan's decision to sign this and someone above him has decided enough is enough. Bit late but was bound to happen.
Someone check on Jim.
@Kaloudz Extremely accurate! 🔨☕️😅
Confirmed it was for 10 years. Bet marketing deal ends sooner than originally, tho, but won't be disclosed. PS wouldn’t want that.
Was it only for 1 game? Why is everyone obsessed with cod?
Microsoft are nicer than me. After the FTCs failure I wouldn’t have even offered them a deal. I’d have still put COD on PlayStation but let them sweat that it could be pulled at any time 😏
@Nighto4 Not judging for myself, but given the crowd that shows up for the weekly Friday party I do, I'd said I'm well enough off. 😉
Sony going back on their word? Crazy.
Bit of a shame I missed @Snake_V5 ‘s comments before they got deleted as they were usually about how this deal has no chance of going through.
Good for Playstation players to at least have the security of 10 years if COD is what they want to play (though I imagine it will continue past that). Time for Xbox to enjoy that sweet revenue.
Between Gamepass, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft and Candy Crush; amongst others, that is a huge stream.
There is a big chance we see the deal finalised tomorrow. The only query I have with this would be around Microsoft’s relationship with the CMA going forward into the future should they choose to close anyway. Hopefully they can sort this peacefully and the deal can be legit under the CMA too.
Activision-Blizzard development teams dwarf Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda combined when it comes to numbers. They should probably get them making new exclusive IPs.
@CutchuSlow I think it's because Sony made, I believe, $1 Billion off the cut it gets from CoD both in sales and microtransactions on PS Store.
None of the other ABK IPs make nearly that much for Sony.
@Kaloudz
makes herself a brew, polishes her hammer, and waits for chaos to descend lol
Yeah, you'd think being on a Sunday and all that we could bring the house down but nooo😁.
The new 10 year agreement is limited to COD only and is different than the original confirms The Verge. The original agreement would have been for other ABK stuff and the current franchises would have had future iterations available on PS. Sony’s ordeal through the whole thing now makes other franchises a question mark. Actions have consequences, and looks like the dragging out of this may cost Sony future games they would have had if they had just signed the deal.
@Wheatly It is pretty insane numbers.
I don't know if I should be impressed or saddened: gamers spend so much money on cosmetics for video game avatars. They hold no tangible value or have any bearing on gameplay at all!
Removed - unconstructive
Pfft like they had a choice, it was inevitable they would have to sign it, they obviously couldn’t though whilst fighting the merger. Don’t really care much though for Sony and crying Ryan, but they are paying for their delaying now. They should have thought of that.
@Kaloudz thats not to say other games wont be like overwatch ect. Multiplayer games i fully expect (just like bethesda) but single player probably exclusive. I suspect most things will go this route on xbox and sony since multiplayer games need a big player pool, while single player games dont. It just isnt in writing, now.
Next time Jim when Phil gives you a ten year contract for
"Sega Games"
Sign the F***king deal! 🤬
@Deshalu i am a Diablo hardcore fan. Top 3 all time franchise for me. I follow all of its news. It was briefly mention in court that Diablo’s plan is to stay multi platform including PS consoles. However new ABK franchises will more than likely be Xbox/PC exclusives. Which is fair and to be expected.
@Kaloudz just like you said buddy, Sony would sign this deal quicker than they sign a timed Exclusive deal to keep games off other platforms. HAHA
Removed - trolling/baiting
What annoys me is that no doubt all the hardcore fans, or the sheep will blame Microsoft. Not Jim Ryan for losing them several hot games on their platform. I knew as I'm sure others did that this was the game Eyam was playing and the risk he was taking, others didn't though. But they know now.
Removed - off-topic
@HonestHick in court the judge cut the FTC off, so it was never promised.
I’m calling it here now. Diablo 5 will be exclusive.
Jim Ryan probably blew his knee out bowing so quick ! I love it 🤣
@MSX Sony eating that s#@t burger and its glorious lol
Just imagine if MS cancels COD and names it something else so it doesn't end up on Sony's consoles
Ho.....ho......ho........ Maaaaan freakin' W
Alright boooiizzzz we got 'em
Well, I love to say I told you so.
@Kaloudz Sony is a little greedy and cutthroat. Not going to lose any sleep over them taking a few L’s here and there. MS is not easy to compete against when they are focused and awake. They now respect gaming as a true part of MS. This is the Xbox we needed 10 years ago. But it’s here now and Sony realizes they aren’t leaving.
@Deshalu that would be a HUGE exclusive if thats the case. Yeah i do remember the judge interfering once when it was asked about. I am loving Diablo 4. Got a 54 sorcerer, 42 Barbarian and a 30 Rouge. Loving it so much. 😊
@S1ayeR74 right!! I hate to see all the bashing of both sides. Yes i prefer my Xbox. But i love my PS5 and Switch. Wish the industry celebrated the Big 3 doing well and making it near impossible for other’s to join or take over the industry from the big 3. But instead they fight amongst each other.
@Sad_But_True Remember when Jim Ryan said very publicly:
"I won't sign that deal "
I guess he had to eat his own words.
I can imagine him after signing the deal being completely stoic in the car to the airport, on the plane, in the car back to his office, in the office for a few hours, in the car ride home.
He closes his front door and sheds a single tear.
@Moonglow
That's a good point
live action games certainly sink resources
@old-dad
Yeah its good to see them eat some humble pie 😂
@Moonglow Sony is a company that is just cocky enough to price their products like the best on the market but have lost so many divisions to their own failures that they are highly insecure. When they are winning they will let you know, but they always seem like they are watching over their shoulders for someone to pass them. The Walkman, TV’s, computers, etc etc. PS will be around for a long long time. They have great IP’s and many studios. The Big 3 are all here to stay. But MS will continue to invest into Xbox and have a cash cow in COD. They will get stronger and stronger each passing year. If they can get to 35-40 studios thats a AAA game every 3 months and that is hard to keep up with. It’s the only way to do that cause games are taking 5 years. So you need to stagger the release windows. They are so close to that 35-40 studios and that will be a constant stream of games. At some point non Xbox gamers will buy into that to play them. Their numbers will grow in time.
@BeerIsAwesome What happens? Whatever Microsoft decides is what happens. Lol.
@bpomber Educate yourself. The deal will allow more games to be played on more platforms, via streaming. I mean, did you even try to read the facts?
What ended up happening is exactly what I thought would happen. The company with the deepest pockets wins. And that's certainly not Sony. So who really is the industry leader? Hey Jim, who's your daddy? PHIL! LOL.
Phil should have told Jim to go ahead and money hat some exclusives ! We got this Cod money coming in and will need to buy something 👀
@BeerIsAwesome thats a good point and an interesting one. Seems like there’s a communication issue huh? I didn’t notice that. But i do see Sony in a weird spot of being a market leader with no confidence. The tech world today is so advanced and changing, and Sony takes little to no risk’s. In some ways they don’t innovate correctly. At least for my taste. But my point was they know MS is not an easy out and they really now that now. I want to see what their idea’s and dedication to gaming will look like when things change in the industry more or when MS starts to be better competition again.
On year 3 I'd start hiking the price of Sony's Call of Duty. For revenge, to cover the cost of their 30% tax and to eventually destroy them.
Wow, Jim finally caved? For a worse deal than if he'd just signed it before trying to deceive every government on earth? Smart business right there.
No updates yet today? Hmm. Wonder if it’ll be tomorrow before anything is announced, although didn’t someone on here state that Microsoft has a meeting with the CMA today? That could hold back any news till after.
@BeerIsAwesome yeah great point on the Sony camera tech. It’s just a sensor not the whole camera, but it is widely regarded as one of if not the best in mobile. LG and Samsung are the only 2 Oled panel makers, so every Oled sold is from either LG or Samsung and thats a cash cow for them. Sony TV’s used to be my favorite. But price to performance is starting to lag and i now own 2 LG Oleds. I don’t think it takes 10 years for MS to be competitive. They have loads of great games coming, backed by strong services. I don’t expect Sony users to switch. But we are in times were gamers want more games to play and they are taking longer to build. So have near 40 dev teams churning out AAA games will pay off for Xbox going forward and i see that starting as soon as 2024. Throw in the fact all the money the ABK deal will be brining in and this makes Xbox far more competitive than they were last gen with Xbox one. The industry in general is still going strong and i look for a bright future for all of the big 3. 😊
@HonestHick I never tried Diablo. I am thinking about giving it a try. What do you like about it?
@BeerIsAwesome first off and I apologize for this taking this long. Your name is awesome. I love beer about as much as anything haha. Having a few after work today with some diablo 4. That out of the way, yeah those are great points. I can agree with that. No one can release a few good games and then fade away. They have plenty of studios and they are all working to get them out, so when they do, Xbox should get noticed. Something they just didn’t do enough of last gen. However the older i get and gaming time get’s a little more crunched by other things. I find myself only playing the ones i really really care about and then playing them for a long time and getting to unlock and see everything i can before moving on. Instead of just trying to play everything like i used to. As long as Xbox has a Diablo, Red Dead and Gears of war title. I am there and playing. Same with Sony, only thing i have played on my PS5 is Last of Us part 1, Ratchet and Clank and god of War. I did buy Street fighter 6 on PS5 and have around 30 hours in it. I really like it. I am not buying 10-15 games a year anymore. Switch is the same, i have a handful of games i like there and thats about it. However my time spent on those games are enough to play through 4-5 other titles. Haha
@cburg i like the lore and story. The grinding for better gear. Dungeon crawlers are my thing. It’s a RPG i don’t get bored with. I am not the biggest turn based RPG fan. Hence i want to try FF16 since it’s more of an action game with a RPG story and great worlds. Characters in Diablo are great to build and tweak gear on the fly when you get a good drop. It’s a repetitive loop like anything else, but one that suits my play style and keeps me engaged.
This does not bode well for the CMA. Lolol. They seem intent on trying to block the deal no matter what. I said in the beginning it was a matter of when not if. Now we just keep pushing MS to keep games cross platform.
@HonestHick nice and thank you.
@BeerIsAwesome i have been saying for years even when i had more time to play. Why doesn’t some games come in smaller chunks. 10 hour game van be great content wise. Still cost $50 bucks and be less developer time and money. Everything has to be lots of filler so they can hit that 30 hour mark and $70 tag. I am lucky i still have a good amount of time to game. But i don’t watch movies hardly at all and next to no tv other than sports. But i do choose my time i have to certain games. I am not trying to play everything these days.
Honestly, at the end of the day we are gamers. I would expect every gamer to want every other gamer to be able to play every game on their chosen device. Whether that is God of War, Halo, Mario, Zelda, Gears, Horizon, Call of Duty, Destiny, etc.
Maybe now, Microsoft will finally have the clout to negotiate with Sony and say, sure Diablo, CoD, Spyro, Crash, etc. will stay on your console... Oh, and we will add Gears, Halo, Hellblade, and Starfield to your console, but... God of War, Horizon, The Last of Us, Ratchet & Clank, and Uncharted need to make their way to XB as well...
Same with Nintendo.
No more console wars, no more exclusives, every gamer can choose their console and play every game on it! The world of gaming should be one community, not several. Consoles should be differentiated based on the hardware, services, network, and gaming profile features. Not have vs have not games with exclusivity.
@NeoRatt i would love that. I buy a PS just for God of War and Last of Us. Sure i like ratchet and Clank, but i wouldn’t buy a console just for it. But i am not a fan of Sony controllers. I would love to be able to play God of War on a Xbox controller. I am sure there are some gamers who would love to play Gears or Forza on a Dual Sense. I sure wish those were the days we lived in. But i can’t see it happening anytime soon. What a glorious idea tho. 😊
@BeerIsAwesome i am just not a fortnight guy. At times i wish i was cause i would have a steady shooter to play. I am so waiting for the next Gears of War, be that in a collection of the first 3 games or later down the road in Gears 6. I played Gears 5 multiplayer for like 400 hours and loved it. I still play a few matches here and there. Played around 150 hours or so of Halo infinite and actually really liked it. But the lack of content and maps wore me out. I did a lot of hours on COD MW2 and liked it for the most part. But haven’t gone back to it since Diablo 4 released. In fact outside of Street fighter 6, i haven’t played anything else but Diablo 4. Loving it and can’t wait for Season 1. Diablo 3 season’s were great for me, so i am hopeful this should be the same. Just excited to see Xbox gamers sticking it out in the rough years and getting to this point were it looks like MS is laser focused with a plan and ton’s of games coming. Xbox is a loyal brand of gamers that at times MS didn’t even deserve. It’s time we celebrate some of the good news and what the future has in store for us, whatever the amount of time we all have or don’t have to game. 😊
@BeerIsAwesome Yeah i think Sony is in a down year after working hard to have a few games for the covid lock down years. I am sure they have some great 2024 stuff planned. Sony needs to be careful tho. If they don’t have success with live service they will need to shift focus again. I was gut punched during the Sony showcase to not see Last of us multiplayer. Then to hear Bungie basically say it’s boring and needs reworked. That has been in development for a long time and seems like it could be even longer or maybe hopefully not cancelled. That’s not good. I really love the last of us universe and of course i love multiplayer games so those two together was close to a dream game for me. I only buy a PS console for their exclusives as i play 99% of my 3rd party games on Xbox cause i don’t care for the controller layout on PS. I am not trying to bash the PS controller. Just saying it hurts my thumbs and i am not fast on it like i am with Xbox. So when they have an off year or titles coming out i am not interested in it kind of hurts my time on PS consoles. So i like it when they have stuff coming out i want to play. 😊
@BeerIsAwesome yeah i agree Sony does a good job of making sure they have games in the gaps of their first party.which is really smart. Yeah Bungie for sure has more experience and that was why Sony wanted them in house. Makes sense and i think was a good pick up for them. Controllers are super important to me. I haven’t found a 3rd party one i like in years. I tend to always use first party accessories. I have always loved Xbox controllers. So i game there for most of my titles. But dual sense is better for me than the PS3-PS4 controllers were.
@BeerIsAwesome MS is playing catch up from not buying anything much to no one at all during the 360-One years. Now they are just scooping up the whole team. I agree it’s a little bit aggressive, but they waiting until the point of them being almost out of the industry. Now they are trying to secure enough games that no one can move them out of the Big 3. I won’t say how much i like it vs disagree with it. But i understand what they are doing. They are trying to make sure an amazon, google or apple don’t come in and buy a ABK and then Xbox is dead and gone. This industry prints money, no matter what state the world is in. Video games keeps making billions and i think any rich tech company would want in on that. So MS just made it harder for anyone to budge them out of the industry with this deal. Plus i am sure MS and Sony aren’t done yet adding to their first party teams.
@BeerIsAwesome yeah i can mostly agree with that. But the video game industry is a different beast. If say amazon would have bought ABK. Now what is left for MS? It takes decades to build a studio from scratch and get a AAA game out and then it’s not a guarantee that game sells and makes the money back. PS and Nintendo have successful first party games and if MS couldn’t find a way to get some of those and then another player or two enter the market and start buying up ABK’s and others thats a uphill battle maybe even a MS can’t fix. I mean Apple, Google, Amazon and others are all worth billions or trillions. But at the moment it’s just too hard to enter the space. I am surprised Apple or Google hasn’t tried to just be a publishers and scoop these companies up and make the money off the big 3. Now MS needs to get some big games out. Not sure if Starfield is my thing. I really want a Gears of War 1-3 collection.
@BeerIsAwesome
Just because exclusives exist everywhere, does not make it right. I am well aware of the reality. But, that doesn't make the realty right. And I have wrapped my head around the fact that it is wrong.
Also, it is a lot different forcing you to subscribe for a month to netflix then forcing you to buy a $500 console to play only a few games.
