We've got confirmation of the next Mortal Kombat game! Mortal Kombat 1 will arrive for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 19th, 2023, with a beta dropping in August for those who pre-order the game.
Mortal Kombat 1 is described as the start of a "new era" for the series, featuring a "reborn" MK Universe:
"Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest title in the acclaimed Mortal Kombat videogame franchise developed by award-winning NetherRealm Studios. The game will introduce a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe that has been created by the Fire God Liu Kang, featuring reimagined versions of iconic characters as they’ve never been seen before, along with a new fighting system, game modes, bone krushing finishing moves, and more."
"NetherRealm’s genre-defining Story Mode returns with an immersive cinematic narrative featuring unexpected twists on classic rivalries and original backstories for a wide-ranging cast of legendary fighters, including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, and many others. You'll be able to purchase Mortal Kombat 1 beginning this Friday, May 19th for $69.99, with everyone who pre-orders the game getting Shang Tsung as a playable character, as well as that aformentioned beta access in August. There will also be a Premium Edition and a Kollector's Edition for $109.99 and $249.99 respectively.
