@SplooshDmg lol oh that Swiss cheese. I definitely didn’t see it coming. Tama is amazing though. Did you see the YouTube clip of the other AI dancing? It didn’t make the game but it’s in the code.

@mousieone There was seriously one scene that I was like, "Wait... That's dumb and literally can't work that way." Apparently, the contrivances of the MASSIVE plot hole are completely "explained" in an appendix file. I'm like, no Uchikoshi. You don't get to do that. That's not gonna work this time.

@mousieone @SplooshDmg Yeah, I've been waiting for even the 25% sale to come back which it virtually NEVER does on XB and has like a dozen times on PS and Nintendo, so the 40% is an insta-buy, it's been in my wishlist since last summer, and I was playing P5R (I have waaay too much SMT and way to much Yakuza all at once going on!) yesterday when the gong popped up that it was on sale. Added it to the cart but didn't check out yet. I really wanted it on XB because I really like streaming VNs from my XSS. Doing Pentiment ATM, and wow that game is great.

The good news is this is the first time in like 10 months I've commented on Nirvana on a sale article and tagged sploosh and there was actually someone on the other end of the tag

Not a fan of swiss cheese plot holes. On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being "plush kitty toy" and 10 being "Jim Ryan", how much am I going to hate the plot here?

Has anyone played No More Heroes 3 and is it any good? I really enjoyed the first game on Wii but that's the only one I've played.

@NEStalgia Pentiment was basically immediately accepted in my pantheon of gaming Gods. It was probably without question my 2022 GOTY. NirvanA Initiative was way up there in terms of how much I actually enjoyed it, but I'm not even going to pretend that the nonsensical thrill ride was anywhere near the same level as Pentiment in terms of actual writing. It's fun, it's kinda stupid, but it's A LOT of fun.

@NorthwestEagle Its a flawed game that I also think is wonderful. I am not a fan of the horriffic brutal violence, my trauma from the vase scene is noted by mousie and sploosh. I made them give me non-spoiler-spoilers so I could make my way through the green path (which actually turned out to be not as bad as they made it seem. The table saw feels video-game normal at this point and I don't touch horror with a 1000ft pole.)

The violence was the serious part, the rest was largely a pastiche mockery of other Japanese content, though. The slapstick/horndogging/magical rainbow arrow thing, it's all extremely over the top in mockery of the tropes themselves, just hovering at, sometimes breaking the 4th wall. It's laughing with you, not at you.

The weaker point of the game is the magical plot holes which sound like they're worse in the sequel.

Sploosh and mousie here assure me the second is less violnet and more slapstic and less coherent though, so I'm all aboard

@splooshdmg Pentiment is just purely amazing in terms of story and writing. I'm up just before having to deal with the archdeacon, not sure how deep in that is yet, but everything thus far has just been absolutely amazing and truly the best writing in video game history, IMO. IDK how it didn't win best writing. What did? Ragnarok the popcorn action flick? Seriously beat a 16th century period mystery tied around the pre-reform Roman Catholic Church in historical detail?!

I do think the game structure has issues in terms of simply having so much content that must be missed due to having to choose only one option out of a dozen as the calendar progresses, though it's no different from Persona. But in terms of writing, I don't think we've seen that caliber of writing before in a game. Tragic that it doesn't get more acknowledgement.

@NEStalgia I think Pentiment actually won best narrative from a lot of outfits, rightfully so. Archdeacon is basically the 2/3's mark, so you're getting close to the end. The final act will BLOW YOUR MIND. It's wild... Utterly, splendidly wild. I think the really interesting part is that every story line is seen as equal, no one is more cannon than the other. Which is sort of thought provoking. Whoever is accused of the crime and found guilty is just who did it. There wasn't any waiting for the DNA results or fingerprints to come back to try and prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt. I'm going to do another run sooner or later and just pick totally different perps and see what I come up with.

@SplooshDmg That's interesting, I didn't know that whatever path you choose becomes the path. That's truly meant for replay (OMG I'll never get to Nivana now!! ) Though it's a short game. Right now I really only have one framed suspect which is a shame because I don't think he did it, but that's how my time utilization went. That aspect of the game probably needs some work. Then again, I don't have anyone I personally do think did or could have done it and probably won't find one this run.

@NorthwestEagle Yah, yeah, I honestly almost stopped right away with that myself. I don't do gore yet I like murder mysteries. I was glad I kept pushing because the whimsy stuff is just classic but I do agree the gore was a bit much for me.

And yeah the absurdity goes beyond that with sci Fi twists I didn't like. Though to be fair eyes do sometimes get dislodged in injuries and they can pop it in. I don't like to think about that. I can't even get myself to try contacts. But it's a thing.... But yeah they'rs a lot of "not actually possible" gaps I don't like in my whodunnits

It's a weird game. Sometimes gory, sometimes frustrating lack of reality or just cheap and sometimes hilarious and memorable.
