Talking Point: Three Months On, Are You Still Playing GoldenEye 007 On Xbox Game Pass?

No online multiplayer pretty much killed it for me...

Played it, completed it on all three difficulty settings (Control on 00 is a ****). Superb classic masterpiece. I'll be replaying it again at some point next year too. Much easier having it on Xbox than dusting off my N64 with wobbly controller sticks and explosion frame rate crawl.

@Kaloudz That's Bunker 2 you're thinking of. Control (Level 16) is the one where you have to protect Natalya at the PC whilst the alarm goes off and all hell breaks loose in her direction. Not to mention the turret guns at the start of the level on the higher difficulties make the whole thing an extreme challenge.

I haven't played the game pass version because I recently played the remastered one that leaked.

I save it for when i need to get achievements for weekly rewards

Haven't touched the campaign yet, but my cousin was over for Easter and we both had a blast experiencing the multiplayer for the first time. Much like DOOM 1993 it's a tragedy it's Local only.

I have 00 nostalgic feelings for this one, and I don't like FPS very much... So yeah, never in my life tried it.

i still play a couple missions every week for the music/gameplay combo.

I finished it and thought it was ok. I much prefer the TimeSplitter series, with 2 and Future Perfect both backwards compatible on Xbox.

Played around the first 2 or 3 levels at launch and that's it. Great for its time yes and a big part of gaming history but its aged so poorly and its a real shame that the proper remaster can't see an actual full release

I'd only bother playing the campaign again if it was the remastered version - otherwise I don't see the point of revisiting an 'old' game I have beat 'many' times before.

Great that it's on Xbox for all those nostalgic gamers and any that may have missed the N64 era, but I lived through it and I prefered Perfect Dark - and that didn't age well in the Rare Replay collection - so I can't see Goldeneye being different.

Fun to go back to for a couple hours but haven’t touched it since the first week it launched. Too many other newer games to play.

I love Goldeneye. However, I rare play it because it does not include Japanese.　Yes, there is no Japanese in Rare Replay. Even though Rare games were popular in Japan. I think this is the reason why Xbox is not popular in Japan.

I completed it on the easiest level and enjoyed it, brought back so many memories. I've not played it for a month or so but do plan to go back and play it at higher difficulties!

Had a nostalgic and fun play through and did a few speed runs, but there's too much else out there nowadays to be replaying it multiple times.

No, I'm playing Rare's remaster which is one million times better than Code Mystics' version. The remaster shows how awesome the game was and still is.

@Banjo- I wish they’d just released the XBLA version for us to enjoy, I’d love to give it a go. In fact I’d happily pay for it as well.

I tried this lacklustre version, but I just can’t get on with it. It’s so frustrating when you know there is something much, much better that will likely never get a proper release.

@Feffster I totally agree. I still have the N64 cartridge and believe me, Code Mystics' version is worse somehow. Rare's remaster proves that the game still is great if you polish it a little bit, just like Perfect Dark, although I think that Goldeneye 007 is even better, at least it makes more sense and it's more intuitive.

I really hope that Rare's remaster is released because it's the definitive way to play this game. It should have a proper release and not being stuck on PC emulators now that Microsoft banned emulators on Series X|S, at least in retail mode.

I struggled to beat Code Mystics' version in anything over the easiest difficulty setting while 00 Agent mode is manageable in Rare's remaster because of the frame rate and polished graphics and controls.

Let's hope that the remaster is officially released someday.

@Banjo- well said, and fingers crossed one day it sees the light of day on Xbox.

I’ve bought Rare Replay to be able to play it without needing Game Pass. Stupid they don’t let you buy it stand alone. I ended up with 52 achievements from the 55 and properly completed the game for the first time and being able to play using an Xbox Controller definitely helped me with doing that!

No savestates or checkpoints is a no go for me (yeah i suck)
