Believe it or not, Dead Island 2 has been around in some form for almost a decade now, and the final Xbox release is imminent! Dambuster Studios' colourful zombie romp hits Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on April 21st, so the team has decided to drop a substantial chunk of gameplay before launch.
The above clip shows 15 minutes of zombie slaying action across the game's flesh-ridden rendition of LA; aptly known as 'HELL-A' in-game.
Speaking of super obvious names for things, this deep dive also discusses the game's 'FLESH' system - basically how Dead Island 2 reacts to hacking away at zombie body parts. Any guesses for what this stands for? "Fully Locational Evisceration System for Humanoids". We totally guessed that!
Anyway, silly acronyms aside, Dead Island 2 is looking rather nice we must admit, especially after going through what most would deem 'development hell' since its first reveal in 2014. Let's hope it all comes together when the game finally launches for real on April 21st, 2023.
Are you going to be slashing off zombie limbs in LA come April 21st? Let us know in the comments!

@bbb @kaloudz same here. Dead island was one of my fav series on 360. Even moreso than dying light even tho I know that was made by the original developers. Can’t wait for this. Day 1 buy
There are some really great things releasing this year but Dead Island 2 is my most looked forward to. I've played the original and Riptide far more hours than I want to say. Please dont let me down 🥹
Day one for me.
Looks like this could be the first in a long time game I purchase full price and soon after release.
The hills reminded me so much of Gta5 that I was expecting to see a zombie Trevor. Peds riot zombie mode, L2, R2, up, down, up, down.😵💫
hope there is a gun class that gets way more ammo
This looks far better than I expected. In fact, I'd go so far as to say, it could top the first two games, and even the first Dying Light, and I say that as a fan of all of them (including the second DL2). I thought the reveal to be so impressive, I just pre-ordered the Gold Edition of the game...
I’ve stopped buying games day one at full price a long time ago and as good as this looks I’m just going to rent it but I will most likely buy it in a sale if it’s as good as it looks. I’m really looking forward to it and hope it sells and reviews well.
Dead Island was of my first 360 games. It was a good zombie slaying romp, even if it never lived up to its potential. Just started to play the definitive edition on my Series X. I hope the sequel is step up, with a bit more gun play and more streamlined crafting system.
@Fiendish-Beaver Dying Light is my favourite zombie genre game alongside Resident Evil 4 and The Last of Us. I'm still finding the sequel a bit dull so hopefully Dead Island 2 can fill the gap.
@Gamecuber, have you played Riptide? If not it is much better for guns than the first Dead Island. Shotguns are very effective, carry more ammo, craft ammo at the many crafting benches, gun mods, and play as Purna for gun perks like 54 max carry of shotgun shells.
Also Riptide has easy solo duplications of any item that can be dropped. Well at least on the PS4 definitive version I play. There is a flare gun given free early that you may enjoy.
Anyone able to share if the weapons degrade then break as in the other dead island games?
That will be deal breaker for me. Never finished the others due what seemed like spending more time repairing or looking for new weapons than actually getting able compete the game.
@NoCode23 I tried Riptide on 360 but it ran really poorly. I’m hoping the definite edition will be better on my Series X.
@GuyinPA75 Unfortunately the melee weapons in this game will degrade, I’m not a fan either of having to keep repairing and crafting new weapons but it’s not going to stop me playing the game as it looks great. I wouldn’t write the game off just because of that one negative thing.
@Gamecuber, Riptide also performed poor on my PS3 with micro stutters the entire game. I have the full definitive edition and it plays great, including Riptide, on my PRO. On my regular PS4 the frame rates are not as smooth. The specs of the Series X "should" provide excellent performance of this definitive edition.
