Xbox Game Pass Shooter 'Back 4 Blood' Has Officially Ended Development

October 2021 to February 2023.

Meanwhile I'm still playing they last got game Left 4 Dead 2, from 2009 still to this day.

Boy how the mighty have fallen.

Game was crap and a waste of my money. The stupid difficulty levels made absolutely no sense.

@BRT15 It wasn't crap, but it didn't quite live up to Left 4 Dead's level. Was fun for a little bit, then lost interest as it got fairly repetitive... Turtle Rock can't seem to get over that hump and find a long-lasting hook to their games as they venture on their own.

It’s sad but not too shocking. The game for what it is is overall a solid enough game. Turtle Rock does deserve a lot of credit for adding an offline mode.

Modern gaming where games die quick.

@Trmn8r haha. You can tell I'm still salty about the game. I bought it full price (as I was a huge L4D fan from back in the day) and the first couple of weeks was perfectly fine. Nothing great but fine and then they ruined it with the difficulty updates and nerfing a lot of the cards.

@BRT15 I played on Game Pass. Yeah, I'd be more salty had I paid full price.

I thought it was good for a 7ish score. I only played solo and had fun with it. I was not successful in recruiting friends to play, even ones with gamepass. I think this genre might be dead.

No loss. Maybe intended to be a spiritual successor but didn't achieve it. Boring card system, lackluster gameplay.

@InterceptorAlpha they didn't make that, valve did. Their previous game was Evolve, which also crashed and burned.

@Fishmasterflex96 they shouldn't have had to ADD an offline mode. That's a basic function.

Really tried to like it. Played it on gamepass. Stuck trying to finish chapter 4, I think. One where you Chase the giant monster.

Hated the matchmaking. Teams either quit...or you get stuck with dumb A.I teammates.

Maybe If it wasn't so reliant on the card system. Maybe If the matchmaking had been more solid.

Mechanics were good, but difficulty was lopsided at times.

I played it all, and the dlc. Did everything on nightmare, eventually, although the no hope difficulty was ridiculous.
It looked good and had some good ideas that could've been executed better. Not L4D but still fun for a time.

4/10 - I can only speak for the game regarding its early stages, as I haven't played it since its first month back in October 2021.

The card system was a total gimmick, and it became stale very quickly. The game was far too difficult which got changed later after I had already uninstalled. It was a nightmare completing Act 4 (final act) on recruit difficulty as a solo player with randoms. It took many failed attempts to finally pull it off.

I really enjoyed the Left 4 Dead games back in the late 2000s and to say this game was a far cry to those games would be a huge understatement.

it was a good game that they ruined by difficulty. the need to to keep replaying levels to get better to succeed made you feel you weren't getting anywhere

they designed it to take longer and be replayed where as people replay stuff because they enjoy it

Going to make fanboys angry but... I believe the same fate awaits Redfall. Though Redfall has a bigger team/studio behind it, I don't believe it will go on to live in the sunset for the next months to come, let alone years.

@A_username Yes they did 🤣 Turtle Rock was an independent studio. Started making Left 4 Dead, Valve bought them in 2008, the same year released Left 4 Dead..

They were rebranded to Valve South. Then when independent under their Turtle Rock name back in 2010.

Their first game after independence was Leap Sheep, a mobile game. When them putting out Evolve in 2015.

So again, their last good game was Left 4 Dead.

@Clankylad oh don't get me wrong, I'm not basing my belief on this game in particular. I'm basing it on all the previous games that came before it. Anthem, Evolve, GTFO, Aliens Fireteam, the recent Warhammer game. Were they fun? Sure, some of them. Were they games that we still talk and think about? No. Not at all.

It's a genre that's really niche, and you MUST have a real strong product to keep your consumers attached to you. And that's what I believe. The people will get bored and leave, before the game gets real good with patches and updates. Just like every other game before it.

@InterceptorAlpha A bit misleading considering Valve made 100% of the base game for Left 4 Dead 2. Turtle Rock only did the DLC for that.

Not to mention, the original Left 4 Dead was heavily made by Valve considering Left 4 Dead is on Valve's engine, uses Valve's game scripting tools, was written by Valve writers, assets and maps were made with Valve's authoring tools, voiced by Valve in-house actors, the score was recorded by the Valve symphony orchestra and the game's key feature was Valve's AI Director.

Even though the idea for Left 4 Dead was Turtle Rock's and did help with some of the first game, I'd say the main reason behind the Left 4 Dead series' success is because of Valve.

@Veseran and if you remember, the original campaign for Left 4 Dead 2 was bad enough that everyone and their mom was demanding the content from the first to be added to the second. Completely changed the tone of the game.

So, by that logic games like Tarkov are made by Unity since even the graphic assets are Unity. Or that Titanfall was made by Valve since the engine and scripting is all Source engine.

Turtle Rock had builds out and available for Left for Dead before Valve ever touched it. Valve did not come in until the tail end. While I'd argue their original demo was better than what was done after Valve added their influence, this is neither here nor there.

@InterceptorAlpha I never had a problem with the Left 4 Dead 2 campaign, it was just more Left 4 Dead to me.

The problem with you saying that Escape From Tarkov was made by Unity and Titanfall was made by Valve is that those are entirely false statements and are actually made by different developers (you said this, not me). In this case, Valve entirely made Left 4 Dead 2 (yes, using source), not to mention, the original Left 4 Dead we all know today never would have been made possible without Valve (Like I said, Valve Writers, Valve in-house actors, Valve employees using Valve Tech, etc.) as I never said the original Left 4 Dead was entirely made by Valve, but they certainly did the heavy lifting.

Sure, Turtle Rock Studios may have made Left 4 Dead without Valve, but Back 4 Blood certainly shows that it never would have been as successful without Valve.

Go on, Google it there are several articles and YouTube videos about this very subject.

Good! Now return Left4Dead1&2 to consoles and turn servers back on. They updated them last gen and they should do it again for current gen.

I've completed this and I did enjoy it, I did have trouble finding teams on it but having the solo option helped a lot as the bots weren't the worst in the world.

I wanted this game to be good but it was horrible! The enemy balancing was a Nightmare!
