It may well be another modern remake, but Capcom's upcoming Resident Evil 4 overhaul is quickly becoming one of our most anticipated releases of 2023. October's extended gameplay reveal has more than whetted our appetites for this one, and it sounds like we may get to see more on the game real soon.
In a developer spotlight piece by Japanese site Famitsu, Capcom's Yoshiaki Hirabayashi touched on the team's RE4 remake development process, and how things are progressing as we move into 2023. Naturally, the interview's Japanese origins mean we can't really pull a full quote out here, but Hirabayashi says that the team is "working hard" to show us more of RE4 before launch, and that the remake has now entered the "final spurt" of development.
At present, Capcom is still gunning for a March 24th 2023 release date with Resident Evil 4, and it's beginning to sound like the team will indeed make that launch date. Forgive us for half expecting another delay - that's what 2022 has done to us!
In the meantime, here's one of the game's most recent trailers if you fancy feasting your eyes on more Resident Evil 4 remake ahead of next March.
Are you hyped for the RE4 remake? Happy to hear development is going well? Let us know!

Starting 2023 same as 2022.
These remakes seem not to be going away.
Resource on new games please.
I’ve concluded this is totally about an easy cash grab. Less effort on a remake and I guess the accountants have worked out better return on investment.
Please let this be the last resi remake, for the love of god don't continue with 5 and 6.
@UltimateOtaku91 I'm hoping that they remake 1 and Code: Veronica next.
They should also do 5 and 6 as it gives them a chance to fix the story etc.
I played on GameCube when the original was released in 2005. I dont want to play it again. its totally different gameplay mechanism, that dont want to play in 2023......
its oke i understand the RE galaxy is over now, i dont like the last 2 RE game, those are not Resident Evil like games anymore...... its over. Campcom needs to go over
@UltimateOtaku91 Code Veronica still deserves a remake.
Hopefully, we will get remakes of Code Veronica and RE 0 next. I'd also like to see RE Revelations 3.
@Dezzy70 I'm getting sick of these remakes as well but just like you said they're easy cash grabs. Also, it doesn't help people keep begging for them for nearly every game.
@UltimateOtaku91 At this rate expect a remake of RE7 & Village in 10 years.
@deadmaker @Cyberpsycho actually yeah I forgot about Code Veronica, that one deserves a remake too, but for me 5 and 6 are two of the worse in the series (along with operation raccoon city), mainly because they are more action orientated unlike the rest which have survival aspects that is what the series is known for. Though if they remade them and changed the gameplay and edited some story parts to suit the new gameplay then that would be fine.
@Solidchief
Yes lots of people do keep asking for them.
So if profitable the companies will keep doing remakes I’m afraid.
I guess it creates some cash flow into the business as well.
I'm still not sold on this one. Stealth mechanics don't sound like what RE4 was all about. As long as it doesn't have stalkers and it's as action-oriented as the original I'll be happy.
@UltimateOtaku91 We need Code Veronica Remake. Why are people against remakes? If the game there remaking is a good game then what's the problem.
@Snake_V5 just a difference of opinions, nothing wrong with that. I don't mind remakes of older games that I didn't play back in the day, but the main reason I think most people are against remakes is because they have already played those games originally and want to see new games on their new console and not games they've experienced in the past, same why a lot of people who moan about switch ports especially those who owned a wiiu and its games.
For me personally though I don't mind remakes of like ps1 or ps2 games, but I don't see the need for ps3/ps4 games to be remade. It just shows that these studios are running out of ideas if they are going back to games from a gen or two ago, just release an HD collection or remaster instead.
Code Veronica really deserves a remake.
@UltimateOtaku91 No need for 5, and 6...6 was god-awful. I know, I completed it with every character, including Ada.
Code Veronica is the one and final RE game that deserves a remake.
When this was announced, I wasn’t looking forward to it at all. I thought there were others that deserved the remake treatment more, but after seeing what they are doing with this game, I’m looking forward to it. I’m hoping for a Veronica remake next.
I tend to like RE4 more than the rest. Actually playing through RE2R at the moment and it doesn't feel as fluid as RE4 does to me. I'm still enjoying it, but im pretty excited for RE4 remake to see how it pans out.
Can''t wait! No doubt this will be my goty 2023 , really hope a demo emerges soon I wanna play it asap
@Snake_V5 funny I didn't see any complaints about remakes when that final fantasy 7 one just launched lol , everyone hates them till it's something they care about 😂
@Would_you_kindly forr me is RE4 has been remade updated for every singe console, its a dead horse who Capcom keeps beating... the story is old and many of us have played it a few times through. personally they are not getting my money for a 4th time for this game..
@Blessed_Koz it's never been fully remade just some hd textures , the controls on modern consoles for the original are terrible the aiming is absolutely horrendous that's why the best version is still the Wii version with motion controls , I love resident evil so I'm excited to get stuck into this remake I would've preferred a code Veronica remake first though
