EA has decided to transition The Sims 4 into a fully free-to-play title on Xbox, more than five years after its initial launch on the platform. The team feels that whilst new expansions are still in the works for the game and they are "committed" to the future of The Sims, now is the right time to move to free-to-play.
To celebrate, players can pick up a selection of free in-game rewards, as The Sims 4 goes free on Xbox. The rewards include "a variety of tattoos to adorn your Sims, and a special Plumbob ceiling fan", all available in The Sims 4, The Sims FreePlay, and The Sims Mobile, right now!
Xbox players get an extra bonus too - well, if you're a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber at least! EA is delivering an alternate edition of The Sims 4 via EA Play, which includes an additional expansion at no extra cost. Sweet!
That's not all for The Sims either. As the fourth game moves to a free-to-play format, the team has revealed that development is already underway on the next 'The Sims' game. The process is very early on right now, but 'Project Rene' is set to "fundamentally evolve how Sims think and behave, how players create and customize their worlds, and innovate in entirely new ways".
Will you be trying out some The Sims 4 now that it's free-to-play? Or are you waiting on 'Project Rene'? Let us know in the comments below!

I used to play The Sims on PC all the time when I was a kid. I recently tried The Sims 4 on console and it is not a fun time. The Sims is definitely best played on PC with a mouse and keyboard.
@bpomber I remember the old Sims console exclusive games. That were for the most part a disaster.
Sims 2 Unleashed felt like fun at the start. That fun lasted about 30 mins lol.
@Jaxx420 I had no idea there was such a thing as The Sims console exclusive games. Does not sound like a good idea.
I didn't mind sims 4 on xbox. It was mostly playable. After a while my guy wouldn't piss in any toilet I had though, and would just wet himself constantly. Apparently it was a known bug that just never got fixed. I quit playing.
It's a shame, I spent a lot of time on 1,2,3 on PC. Hopefully they focus just a little more on quality control and actual new content for this "new sims" and not just pumping out add on packs that are basically just reskins of the add on packs from the previous entries in the series, i.e. selling you the same stuff again and again.
I added up all the dlc on xbox and it's like $260, if I remember correctly. Just gross.
