Microsoft has announced that its Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 is now available on Xbox Design Lab, where you can customise pretty much every component. Prices start at $150 for the base controller in the US, with additional Elite accessories taking that cost up to $210, if you choose to add them on.
Xbox says this has been the company's most requested addition to Design Lab since the program launched way back in 2016. It does make sense to get the Elite pad in there as an option - after all, it's a controller that's all about customisation.
"Players can choose from a variety of different colors to customize nearly all the external parts of the Elite Series 2 controller including the body, back case, D-pad, bumpers, triggers, thumbsticks, and buttons.
You can even choose between a cross-shaped or faceted D-pad and for the first time ever in Xbox Design Lab, color-customize the thumbstick base and ring. Further personalize your design with laser engraving to add your name, Gamertag or custom 16-character message."
Here in the UK, prices start out at £125 for the core controller, which when you consider the fact that you can customise nearly every component, it sounds like a pretty good price to us, especially compared to the competition.

What I wouldn't do for a decent official controller with back paddles that doesn't cost the earth. Between this £145 - £200, and the new PS5 Edge at £210, it doesn't give much room for the prudent consumer.
It's not helped by the atrocious build quality of Elite S1 & S2.
If they let you do full customization then I'd consider it. The fact the grip color can't change and the colors are quite limited, is a no go for me unfortunately.
And instantly disappointed… there’s only 8 body colors to choose from.
It doesn't allow you to choose all the cool colours and patterns of the standard version sadly. Hopefully this'll be something they can add soon.
Though I'm not dropping that much on a controller.
The thing that has always disappointed me with the Elites (and I have both editions) is the inability to combine the left bumper and right bumper into a single paddle. Sometimes, in the heat of a battle, where your best ability is tied to pressing both buttons at the same time, it can be difficult to get the presses done at exactly the same moment. Sometimes it can be necessary to attempt to do this multiple times. Why you cannot map both button presses to a single paddle is beyond me. I have loved both my Elite controllers, but this one missing feature is very irksome...
