It's a big week for events and reveals (it's pretty much like another E3 to be honest!) and coming up on Thursday, September 15th is Xbox's event at the Tokyo Game Show 2022, with Phil Spencer revealing what to expect earlier today.
The Microsoft Gaming CEO says the stream "will celebrate the vibrant players and visionary creators across the region", with plans to show upcoming first-party and third-party games that he hopes will "delight" players around the world.
Here's his full statement, as revealed in a video on Twitter earlier today:
"It's an honor for Xbox to be back at the Tokyo Game Show this year and celebrate with our fans tuning in from Japan, across Asia and around the world. Japan is a creative powerhouse that has brought to life iconic characters and franchises played by millions of people worldwide."
"The Xbox stream at Tokyo Game Show 2022 will celebrate the vibrant players and visionary creators across the region. You'll see some upcoming Microsoft first-party and third-party games that I hope will delight players here in Japan and across the world."
"We're excited for what the future holds as we continue our mission to bring the joy and community of gaming to everyone on the planet."
As usual, we'll be hosting Xbox's stream at the Tokyo Game Show 2022 here at Pure Xbox on Thursday, so you won't miss a thing if you want to watch it live, and we'll also recap all the important announcements following the event.
Keep in mind that if you do want to watch it live, it's an early start for many regions, with the show taking place at 2am PT / 5am ET / 10am BST - and lasting for around 50 minutes.

I’m sure the first party reveal is Desthloop. I wouldn’t expect too too much there will be some announcements but don’t expect like FF7R. Now for the Japanese players they might have some stuff catered around them.
Just don’t get too too crazy with the hype.
@SplooshDmg There definitely will be some Game Pass announcements, and I'm all for it. At this point Game Pass is just "how much money is going back into my pocket." It's like free lottery winnings at this point.
I don't see any Japanese third party exclusives for xbox but I think we will see games like YS and trails come to gamepass and a Deathloop reveal
Updates on Wu Long. An announcement that Deathloop is coming to Xbox. Surprise game pass Anouncements for Judgement series and Tales of Arise. Also updates on whatever hideo kojima is doing.
That's my prediction
Hopefully we get enough to shut up the baseless "xbox players don't care about Japanese games" nonsense, although it will take a LOT to convince those naysayers.
Maybe we'll see more Starfield? I think last TGS they talked quite about how much work they're putting in to make it worthwhile for the Japanese audience. Otherwise, Gunfire Reborn and more Wo Long footage are probably the headliners.
Crazy prediction would be that they show a first glimpse of Kojima's Xbox game here.
@UltimateOtaku91 I wish but I think we are still far off from that
@Kaloudz Deathloop =p
@SplooshDmg that’s a good guess. Ai Somnium 2 might slide in there.
My secret hope is MS starts working with Mistwalker again but sighs yeah ._.
In terms of First Party, they have basically confirmed that Pentiment, Grounded, Forza Motorsport, Redfall, Starfield, Minecraft Legends, Goldeneye and Deathloop should be arriving before E3 2023. Of course we are still awaiting release dates which could be announced at TGS.
I would expect a strong focus on the games that are likely to be popular in Japan and maybe even have something more to share about Kojima's project. I don't know if there will be any 'big' surprise announcements and not really expecting updates on games that are unlikely to arrive before the next TGS.
In anycase, I am not too bothered about TGS - not enough to want to watch live. I expect a Japanese style presentation and a focus on Japanese games that I don't really enjoy or want to play. I'll watch the individual video's of the games I'm interested in or newly revealed to see if they interest me at some point after the show...
@SplooshDmg I played through Prey again a few weeks ago (God I love Arkane) and then went through Immortality last week (what a mind flare that was!) I beat Tales of Arise already but wouldn't mind playing it again. Deathloop and Plague Tale will be my next Game Pass games, and whatever else gets announced. I MIGHT try Persona, but again, that 100 hour story might turn me off. If I ever get an announcement of Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters all coming to console I'll be set for a LONG time. I can dream.
@Kaloudz the big 3 coming early next year Starfield, Forza and Redfall will get new trailers. Deathloop seems likely to get announced but that could be today.
@mousieone I don't know about that, I mean these games used to be tied to playstation but have recently been releasing on the nintendo switch as well, the devs might follow atlus's foot steps with persona and try and bring the series to more people as possible to bring in more sales. And as far as I know there's no exclusivity deal in place for ys or trails games so I don't see why they can't port them to xbox.
Other games that could get brought over are the atelier ryza trilogy and maybe just maybe our first look at what tango are working on next.
hopefully atelier series finally coming to xbox tomorrow
They better show something new. After everything Nintendo and Sony showed yesterday, a bunch of old crap going into gamepass isn't going to cut it.
Would love to see some Japanese Xbox exclusives like in the 360 days. But I'm also fine with more Japanese games in gamepass or on Xbox. Well see what they will announce
@SplooshDmg well if they get the second Ai game Om going to hit up Nes hard
@Kaloudz to MS Pentiment was an important game. MS pushed games small games as well as their big titles. So to them Deathloop is probably a big deal. I get you though it’s just for them…
@Lavalera MS doesn’t really like to go the exclusive route because it doesn’t help them. Sure it helps Sony/Nintendo but Weebs and Japanese players just wait out the exclusivity sadly ._.
@UltimateOtaku91 I like the hype. I have to stay low it’s better this way.
@SplooshDmg I always get game pass at a discount because I just stock up around black Friday or an occasional CD Keys sale. Sometimes I go a month or so without touching game pass because if there is a game on my switch I wanna play (I don't use my switch often, but if its something from the 2d-hd team at SE that's what i play) games like Octopath or Triangle take me a good month so I wont even turn on the Xbox. I also sometimes take a week or two off from playing games if I play a lengthy game like the two just mentioned just to give myself a break.
If I feel like I need to rush through something so I don't miss something else GP isn't the reason that happens to me, sometimes I've just been playing that 1 game for so long I want to beat it and move on. Just something of a character trait I've inhabited over the years, where when i was a kid I'd just play for hours and hours and usually have plenty of time to invest before moving on. Plus, there weren't as many games coming out back then so releases were further spaced out.
@SplooshDmg Thats why I'm xbox main and switch for the japanese games. I alternate.
@SplooshDmg I did. Mind blown. When it shows you the actual sequence of events wow o.o damn.
@SplooshDmg well I like the sequel I just am kind of annoyed with lack of story closure with Ms Sagan. And also just how many psychopaths are born from one family and now I’m really concerned about Iris. But yeah I like the unlimited somniums better but I like the somniums from the first game better over all. But I mean Tama … boy do I like her.
@SplooshDmg uh mature? Sure well go with that. Something tells me Mizuki and Aiba would have an issue.
@SplooshDmg well Tama has different assets than Aiba. So there’s that
Just realized this takes place at 5am my time… yikes. At least it mean by the time I get up it will all be done and I can simply catch up on the cool stuff.
@Tharsman pfft 2am here. Wanna trade?
@mousieone for me, staying up to 3am is not uncommon so I would take that trade if I could 😅
@SplooshDmg my PC playing days started and ended with StarCraft. Played it religiously. I don't have the patience for PC these days, so I'm strictly console now.
@SplooshDmg I don't mean trouble shooting, I just mean I prefer to plop down and grab a controller on the couch instead of sitting at a computer. I work at a computer all day for work so being at one even longer i just need a break.
And I know you can hook up a controller and pc to a tv ect and all that but it's just easier to hook the console up, load a game and be done with it. Plus I have my series x upstairs and s downstairs with a switch dabbled in there so just easier that way.
If a new StarCraft comes out tho, I may partake.
@SplooshDmg Yeah, i've seen a lot of people online and whatnot that have set-ups that look pretty rad but for logistics of where everything is laid out in my house (computer is in the office and I don't have a tv in there) and I do most gaming in the living room or family room downstairs setting up my pc either in the living room or in the family room, or having a setup in the office for gaming I just dont game enough for something like that. If I gamed quite a bit more like i used to or have the ambition to set that all up i might do that but nowadays I just prefer the other route.
@SplooshDmg I'm surprised you even have consoles at this point, a lot of stuff is heading to PC and closer and closer to day one on all fronts. And with nintendo, the emulator scene for games that aren't native to PC has really come a long way recently.
@SplooshDmg I heard matchmaking on splatoon 3 is a nightmare right now ...
@SplooshDmg Nobody ever accused Nintendo of quality online lol. I'm really disappointed there was no Zelda collection or anything for Switch this year. Fire Emblem and Octopath 2 will probably be the next times I turn on my switch. Trying to think if there were any JRPGs im interested in up until the end of the year on switch specifically but I cant think of one. Crisis core is on everything so will play elsewhere.
Yeah Fire Emblem Three Houses I didnt jump into because it looks like it was way more involved and I prefer the Fire Emblem Awakening style which is more streamlined. Looking forward to this one.
