One of the big first announcements at Gamescom Opening Night Live was 'Dune: Awakening', an upcoming next-gen MMO for Xbox Series X|S. Developer Funcom is building this ambitious open world game, as a next-gen only project.

We were introduced to the title via a brief cinematic trailer and sadly, no gameplay just yet. Still, the cinematic certainly nailed the tone of the recent 'Dune' film, less-so David Lynch's 1984 effort, unsurprisingly. Here's a little more about the upcoming title:

Rise from survival to dominance in a vast and seamless Arrakis shared by thousands of players. Dune: Awakening combines the grit and creativity of survival games with the social interactivity of large, persistent multiplayer games to create a unique and ambitious Open World Survival MMO.
